Re: John R. Tenney WV

I have no connection to the Tenney genealogy but have been searching out Kennedy surname once residents of Elk and Jefferson counties. Gleaning through RootsWeb.com re Kennedy surname found much information at several sites for surname. Many of the Kennedys were residents of Portland Mills. My ancestors once iived in Portland Mills and also Lake City. John Murdick Kennedy and wife Mary A. Hartman are on the site along with many, many Kennedys. I often use the sites for clues and leads to my research. Depending on how you feel about postings on those sites you might want to check the information out.

Edward Paul Kennedy, son of John M. and Mary Amelia Kennedy, was born 10/29/1844 died 1908 with burial at Lake City. Also his children there....connections to the Work/Smith/Fulmer families all once of Lake City. with many burials there but in a book completed years ago by a local couple which lists the names of tombstones at the Lake City cemetery the names John Murdick Kennedy and wife Mary A. Hartman Kennedy are not listed. BUt it's possible the tombstones were missed or perhaps tombstones for the couple were never placed on the plot.

Apparently John Murdick Kennedy while in the Lake City area worked at the saw mill location where a village grew up around it and was named Rainetown after it's owner. THe Raine mill closed about 1905 and the Raine brothers went to West Va. where they established a saw mill which became one of the largest mills in the country....became very famous and the town became known as Rainelle. Believe it was near Randolph Co., W VA where apparently Sarah Catherine Kennedy Tenney died in 1919. Do you think it's more likely that John M. Kennedy also died in W Va and thus was also buried there. You can bring up Rainelle , W VA online if your intersted in checking it out. Maybe the Kennedys could be found in the census. Good luck with your research.

Connie,

I just read the data on Sanfort Arl Tenney in the new TFA Volume III on the Thomas Tenney line and it also has some differences on this family from what we both have. It is pretty confusing. If you find more data, I appreciate your posting it. I will do the same. George Painter

I never expected a reply to my query. How exciting because no one seems to know much about this family. Since posting last year I have found most of my info was inaccurate. But I have found many relative I never knew I had. Sanford Arl was my grandfather's step-father which we never knew and his mother was Sarah Catherine Kennedy but she also went by the name of Sarah Victoria Hartman.

I have done some work on the tree. It is on here under My WV Heritage. I just got back home (Malvern, OH) on Friday from a visit to Elkins for info and to visit relatives.

I hope we can help each other out. I am having a reunion of Arl and Sarah's descendents at my home in July.

My email address is ccrowl50@neo.rr.com. Email me and I can give you my number. I never knew Arl or my grandfather as they both died before I was born. My mother is still living. I have met two of Arl's grandchildren and one lives in the same town I do and one about 15 miles away. Arl died in Oakhill WV in Fayette Co. and is buried there.

Hey I could go on forever with what I have found. Hope to talk to you soon.

Connie

Hello,

I have been trying to find information about my dad's family for along time so I was excite to see your posting.

My dad's mother was Letha N Tenney Taylor - also spelled Lethea and now I see Lettie. She was the daughter of James R. Tenney and Mary Catherine Goodwin. I am trying to learn more about his family. I just spent some time with my dad's half brother-in-law. Drexie was also Letha's daughter by Thurman Booth. We went thru some old pictures - some of which we could identify - some we could not. I think Veldon (Drexie's Husband) actually had a picture of Arl. I have information that says there were 8 children by James R -(1) Coleman, Clark, Ramson, Tursey, Bertha, Anna, Sanford, So now I am trying to figure out the Gustava and Mabel or if that if we put our heads together can find out if these are the same brothers and sisters if we get their whole names---ie. Sanford Arl. My father was the lost child - he was actually raised by the state and he found Letha when he was 40 years old. His name was Duard Law Tenney born January 8, 1918. He did not have any birth certificate. They have all passed on and I am trying to figure out who his father was and any information on my Tenney family I can to connect the dots. Veldon had pictures of one they called Dick - RR -- had one arm and coleman and clark. There is a picture of one older man - I wondered if it could have been James Van Rensslar. He had a picture of Bertie and her husband. Doing this from memory as I just saw those pictures yesterday. Please respond - I would love to learn more and will share what I know.

I am looking for info on James & Martha Tenney. They lived in Worcestor, Ma in the mid to late 1800's. James was widowed somewhere between 1860 and 1870. They had six children. Mary, Charles, John, Esther (?), Martha & Jennie. I believe Esther died young. James was a Saloon Keeper. Both James and Martha were born in Ireland. Martha (daughter) and her sister Jennie appear on the 1880, Naugatuck, CT census. Martha is now Martha Adamson and Jennie is living with her and her husband John. James shows up in Naugatuck, CT in the 1900 census, as living with his daughter Jennie, who is now Jennie Duffany. Jennie is my gg grandmother. If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it!!

Thanks,

Tom Duffany (construction_design_llc@yahoo.com)

On the 1880 Swampscott Mass. census, I found the family of Nathaniel Tenney 1820 with wife Susan 1821 living with Charles G. Bullard 1847 with wife Alice 1849. A son listed with Charles Bullard is Fisher T. Bullard, b.1879.

Can anyone tell me if this family is somewhat related and if so how, to a Fisher Bullard of Franklin Mass 1782-1866, wife was Rhoda Clark married 1805. Lds has a record listing Elisha Bullard and Rachael Rockwood as parents of Fisher b.1782.

Tks in advance for checking..

Sheilah
I really don't have any idea about burial. In 1850, I have Susannah living with her son Peter, so I suspect that her husband Josiah had died prior, but I don't have that info.

You said Peter was co-owner with Josiah - be advised he had a father and brother named Josiah, so I'm not sure which one that would be.

If you have any information regarding Josiah and his immediate family (parents, siblings) I would be interested. Since my 4 great grandma just married into the family after my 4 great grandpa died, I don't have too much interest in the rest of "you guys" :)

Thank you, though!

Andy Hinds

I found the following information in a "Vital Records of Conway, Massachusetts to the year 1850." It mistyped Tinney with Ginney but gave some births of children. All of the following are Tinney's (i.e., it is Alverson Hinds Tinney, etc.) I was looking for information on that Alverson Hinds Tinney's grandpa who was Alverson Hinds, and instead came across this. I hope it's helpful to anyone...

GINNEY, Abigail, ch. Josiah and Lovine, June 21, 1791.
Alverson Hinds, ch. Osee and Sarah, Apr. 14, 1814.
Chester, ch. Josiah and Lovine, Dec. 3, 1797.
Josiah, ch. Josiah and Susanna, Nov. 17, 1813.
Lovine, ch. Josiah and Lovine, July 10, 1785.
Lucy, ch.
Weston's dad Josiah married my 4 great grandma Susanna [Look] Hinds. Susanna and Josiah had Peter Look Tenney and Josiah Tenney (both born 1814-1817 or so). Anyway, I came across a "Vital Records of Conway, Massachusetts to the year 1850" and it had a typo, having Ginney instead of Tinney for the headings. The first name is the person being born, ch. is children of, and then the parents, then date born. I don't know if any of this information would be useful to you or not!!

GINNEY, Abigail, ch. Josiah and Lovine, June 21, 1791.
Alverson Hinds, ch. Osee and Sarah, Apr. 14, 1814.
Chester, ch. Josiah and Lovine, Dec. 3, 1797.
Josiah, ch. Josiah and Susanna, Nov. 17, 1813.
Lovine, ch. Josiah and Lovine, July 10, 1785.
Lucy, ch. Josiah and Lovine, Mar. 8, 1790.
Lucy Belding, ch. Osee and Sarah, Nov. 1, 1818.
Molly, ch. Josiah and Lovine, July 17, 1787.
Oded, twin ch. Josiah and Lovine, June 13, 1793.
Olive, ch. Josiah and Lovine, Aug. 25, 1795.
Osee, twin ch.
One thing that would help me, is do you have a definite location on where Susannah and Josiah were buried? His Revolutionary War pension record lists Adams, Massachusetts, but when I contacted the cemetery there, they claim no one is buried there. It does show Peter Look Tenney as the co-owner with Josiah Tenney.

SUSAN WELD TENNEY 1809 - 1900 in Windsor, Windsor County, VT

I bought a small implement at an estate sale. It has a note attached to it. It says, "To Elisabeth from her Great Grandmother Susan Weld TENNEY, 1809 - 1900". After some research, I found Susan Tenney in the 1880 Census in Windsor, Windsor County, Vermont with her daughters Annett Weld and Mary Mather.

I was told that this was the estate of a Tenney woman in St. Louis, MO. There were no survivors of this woman. I would like to find a family member connected to Susan Weld Tenney. Please contact me if you connect to this family.

Kathy Wieland in St. Louis, MO
