Surnames: Bruce, Tenny, Hays, Keck
Looking for information on my G-Grandfather William A Tenny. According to an obit found in the family Bible, he was the daughter of Martha E Hays who died July 3, 1875 when William was less than a year old. I found other articles in NY papers about him as a speaker, which referred to him as being locally known in Auburn NY as William Bruce Tenny because he spent time with the Bruce family as a child. I found an 1880 census record which lists a Walter and Janet Bruce in Auburn NY with an adopted son William. I have yet to discover how he came to have Tenny as his surname, since he is listed as William A Bruce on the 1880 census and as William Aldrich Hays in the obit for Martha. Any information is greatly appreciated.
