Hugh & Vivian Powers were on the Tennyson side of the family. Hugh was a step-brother of Elva Lou & Wesley Tennyson. Hugh & Vivian are both deceased now. If you would like additional information on them or any of the family members on the Tennyson side let me know.

Carolyn

Looking for any Tennyson/Tinnesen's from Illinois, Nebraska, or Colorado

I've have been pain stakingly looking for my Tinnesen/Tennyson ancestors in the Unites States and I am hoping somebody may have additional leads.

My G-G-Grandmother was a Anna Marie Tinneson from Schleswig b. 15 Aug 1863. her family immigrated to the US in 1872 with a final destination of Chicago, IL. Anna eventually married to a Soren Hans Madsen of Denmark and lived in Elk Creek, Custer, Nebraska from about 1885 - 1905.

Anna's parents where Christen Tinnesen b. 23 Nov 1838 and Anna Maria Christensen Schmidt b. 19 Jan 1838. She also had 3 other siblings Hans Christian Tinnesen b. 6 Feb 1858, Christian Tinnesen b. 28 Feb 1861, and Helene (Helen) Tinnesen b. 21 Apr 1867. This entire family immigrated together in 1872.

I was able to find Anna's brother Christian Tennyson (Tinnesen) living in Kane county, IL in the early 1900's, He had one son William Tennyson born Oct 1884 in Colorado so he may have been working in Leadsville for some time.

My main goal is to find Anna's parents Christen and Anna Tinnesen/Tennyson and where they lived in the late 1800's. I have searched far and wide through the Census' with no luck. Any informatioin would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, for your reply. I know very little. My great grandmother was Alice Tennyson, born 1874 in Birkenhead. Her father was John Tennyson (sailor)and mother was Ann Jane Turner. Alice immigrated to Brisbane, Australia alone in 1875. I have not been able to find anything in census records and know nothing between her birth and immigration. I believe she may have been in Ireland during that time. We were told she was Irish but I now know she was born in England. She was an independent lady as all records I have found in Australia list her as Alice Tennyson and not her married name of Stack.

I have a Thomas Tennyson whose father was John and mother was Maria Walsh. Thomas was born 1854 in Maggarof, Armagh, Ireland. He emigrated first to Birkenhead, England where 6 out of his seven children were born and then moved to Australia. I don't have any further information yet but there could be a connection. You never know!

Sorry I have not been back earlier, but I had lost your thread in the system. I know for a fact that the tenny(i)sons came from ER Yorkshire and split between Lincolnshire (the poets tree) and Nottinghamshire, mine. My information goes back to the early 1700s, but I have still not made the connection between the two branches, mine is based on Richard being named father to son and the poet is Ralph.

However if you go back to the mid-1600s there is a family with Michael as father, Elizabeth as mother having had two sons Richard & Ralph. If I could find the missing generations then I may have the answer.

My E Mail is alanundpam@aol.com ifr you want to contact me direct. If you have excel and Broderbund "Family Tree Maker", then I could share some information.

Benjamin was born about 1804 in England and was christened on 20 May 1804 in Atwick, Yorkshire, England. He died in 1853 and was buried in Roxham Cemetery, LaColle, Quebec. Benjamin was employed as Farmer. His religion was Episcopal.

Do you have any information that might be related?

Some of his descendents moved to New York in the 1850s and to Connecticut in the 1880s.
HI Marva,If you have a Tennison in White County, IL during that particular time period, I probably have some info on them...I'm an Allen...Josephine Tennison married a Sullivan, and a Sullivan (my grandma) married an Allen. We live in MO/AR now, but I've done quite a bit of digging on the White County/Edwards County Sullivans and Tennisons.
The Tennisons were originally from Tennessee (fancy that!)

Let me know if you're interested.

Am trying to connect my family tree of the 1700s Holderness, East Riding of Yorkshire, with that of the Poet, Alfred Tennyson, whos family also lived in the area at the same time. My tree starts with an entry of Richard Tennison b.1737, and the poets tree starts Ralph Tennyson, 1692 Barton on Humber, his son Michael was born in Preston in Holderness 1721. Any help would be much appreciated.
