Hi my maiden name is Monica Oropeza. My father is Miguel Cesar Oropesa Teran. I am also looking for more on the Teran family. I have a large family tree (connected to over 45 million entries) including family Pacheco. Francisco Alvarez de Toledo Pacheco (son of Count and Countess of Oropeza) is the Spanish conquistador that traveled to Peru and Bolivia, and founded many cities. My family is from Bolivia and many of us now live in the US. Email me and we can compare relatives.

I'm related to him. He's my 1st cousin. We called him Tommy. He was a very nice and soft spoken person. He was well liked by everyone.I last saw him at my mother and father's home just before he shipped out to Vietnam. He came here to Port Arthur, Texas to see our grandmother. And his mother and father, along with his sisters, came down to see him before he shipped out. I never though that this would be the last time I would see him. My aunt was told he was missing on Mother's Day. She prayed to God to let her know what happen to Tommy before she died. And he prayers were answered a short time before she was taken. His remains were recovered and buried in Arlington cemetery. His family lives in the Detriot area (Dearborn Heights).

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Estella; sons, Efren Kaleb and his partner, Kevin McCoy and Eric and his wife, Francine Garcia; and sister, Carmela Teran of Cd. Juarez, Mexico. The Terans moved from El Paso, TX to Veguita, NM in 1996 to enjoy their retirement on their ranch with their nine Arabian horses. He will be missed by his family, friends and all those who associated with him throughout his life. A celebration of life will be Saturday, August 16, 2003, 1:00 p.m. at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 601 Montano Rd NW, with The Rev. Brian C. Taylor, officiant.
Julian Teran was my grandfather. He and his brothers were orphaned when their parents died within a month of each other. He fled Mexico with his young bride (Petra Meza Teran) to escape the Carranzistas ( I think I have this right). They settled in Austin and raised a family here. He never saw or heard from his brothers after he arrived in America.
I could dig for more if you'd like.

My grandfather was Julian Teran, who came from San Luis Potosi. He and his young bride (Petra Meza) left Mexico during the conflict in the early 1900's. He lost track of his brothers once he left because his parents died within a month of each other. We heard that there were Terans in Nicaragua, El Paso, California, and Corpus Christi, Texas. Julian lived in Austin all his life until he died about 7 years ago.

Also, the family trademark is the "Roman" nose. It seems to be a trait that all the males and some of the females inherited!
One of our cousins in Puebla (Juan Ponce DeLeon, deceased)
said that his study of the Teran name shows that at one time it was spelled with an H (Tehran). No proof. The family does look mid-eastern.

I believe he lived in San Luis Potosi. We had relatives in Puebla. One of them researched the name and said that it was spelled with an H (Tehran).
Julian Teran was my grandfather. He left Mexico when he was orphaned by parents who died within a month of each other. He married Petra Meza and fled to America to escape from the marauding Carranzistas. He never heard from his brothers after he left Mexico. I think his roots were in San Luis Potosi. We heard a brother went to Nicaragua, but were never sure how to trace him. I can look for more information on the Terans. We did hear from a cousin in Mexico who said that the name Teran actually was spelled Tehran. This may account for the mid-eastern look of the males in our family.

Lori, are you still there. Are you still interested in the Teran family in Mexico. Ask your parents what state in Mexico your family is from. My family is from Sonora and from there they dispersed to different states. There are several from the same family in California, Illinois, and other states in the USA. Our great-grandmothers name was Mercedes Teran. She married a Monge. I found out the surname Teran is Bavarian in origin. It could be wrong. Keep in touch , Lisa

Hi! That was very interesting info. Where did you find it? I would like to research it further. I went into a genealogy site and it stated that Teran was Bavarian. I could not believe it. It would be interesting to find its origin. In our family you see one Teran and you've seen them all. You can tell we are related. The men are bald by the time they're in their thirties. The women were endowed in their hips, at least that's the way it is in our family. keep in touch , Lisa
