After Much Suffering He Passed Away Tuesday evening at His Home Here.
The death of Councilman Jonathan Teter occurred Tuesday evening at his home on Eleventh avenue west. He returned last week from Chicago, where he was taken in hope that something could be done to prolong his life. His disease was cancer, and for a long time he has had little hope of recovery. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the house. The services were conducted by Rev. Vennum, under the charge of Joe Hooker Post, G.A.R.
Jonathan Teter was born September 8, 1836, in the state of Virginia. He came to Kansas and located in Reno county in 1875. He was for four years engaged in the grocery business in Hutchinson. Ever since the war he has been an invalid and very little of the time has he been able for active business life. He leaves a wife and five children, Samuel, Mrs. Minnie Pate, Mrs. Libbie Jordan, John C., and Leslie. The last name is an adopted son who was taken into the family in 1861. All members of the family are now living in Hutchinson. Mr. Teter was an old soldier and has been a member of the Joe Hooker Post, G.A.R. At the time of his death he was a member of the city council from the First ward.
