Well I've looked at all the extracted parish records for both Mucklestone & Market Drayton and whilst there are three Tew baptisms in Drayton none are Thomas, in Mucklestone however there are lots of Tews, but only one Thos for the period you're looking at which is the one you've found-parents William & Elizabeth. I should point out that whilst Market Drayton is in Shropshire, Mucklestone is actually in Staffordshire [ I live just down the road, about five minutes away ]

Hope this helps.

Linda

PS: If you need any further local info you can email me directly on linda.rhead@btinternet.com

On the 1851 census Thomas states that he is from Drayton, SALOP not Staffs - could it be Market Drayton ?
There is a Thomas Tew bap abt 1806 on the LDS site submitted by a family member - the distance between Newport and Market Drayton is only about 10/12 miles
Regards Sheila

Frederick Tew, Annise Stokes - England

Frederick Tew and Annise Stokes are my great, great grandparents. I am trying to find more information about the both of them and about Winifred Lousia Tew (dob 10/31/1888), her sister Carolina Eliza Annie Tew and Florence Ada Victoria Tew. They also had a brother who died in WWI.

I am the great grand daughter of Winifred. This is what little information I might know:

They were all born in England and Winifred and Florence Tew came to Edmondton/Alberta Canada. Carolina Tew remained in England. There may have been additional Tew siblings but we are currently unaware of them.

Florence Ada Victoria Tew moved to Canada from England shortly after her sister Winifred Louisa Tew and later married Jack Benbow and they had two childre, I believe were boys; Jack and Henry.

Winifred later married George Buckingham and they had two daugthers; Mary and Winifred. Later they moved to Seattle, Washington around the 1920's.

George Buckingham (my great grand father), also was born in England and after marrying my great grandmother Winifred Lousia Tew, moved to Canada, following his two older brothers; Alfred Buckingham and Robert Buckingham. He also had a sister, name unknown, that remained in England.

Robert Buckingham married a woman named Elizabeth and they had two children (boy/girl) and remained in Canada.

Alfred Buckingham eventually married but I am unsure of details. Alfred Buckingham left Canada and headed to California where he became a practicing Lutheran Minister/Pastor. He may actually have ministered in a Lutheran church in West Seattle, WA for a brief period of time between Canada and California.

Again, I am the great grand daughter of Winifred Louisa Tew and George Buckingham and the grand daughter of Mary Buckingham.

Any information would be so very greatly helpful.
(briefspace@hotmail.com)

Hello,

I have a great grandmother, Winifred Tew who was born in Buckingham, England on 10/31/1888. I am a bit confused by the details as I am told her fathers name was Frederick Buckingham and her mother's name was Annise Stokes. Winifred Tew traveled to Canada at some point where she married a George Buckingham and had two daughters before moving to Washington during the 1920's. Could this possibly be of any relations to the Tew family line you are looking for.

I do wonder if Frederick Buckingham could have possibly been a step father since my great grandmother's reason for moving to Canada was to take care of siblings. I have also heard that she came to Canada with Geroge, I am unclear as to where and when they married.

Please let me know, this is a gab in our family tree. Thank you.

when did the family come to USA? Name of wife? First tew's came to USA in 1600's and were mariners living in RI, MA CT. Some moved south to North carolina, Alabama areas.
Do you have names of siblings etc. of John? If a starting date is found they may be traced through the census records after 1850 when all members of household are listed.

1891 England Census
Census & Voter Lists

Name: John Tew
Spouse: Emma
Birth: abt 1825 - city, Warwickshire, England
Residence: 1891 - township, city, Warwickshire, England
A suggestion. Give more information. Where did they live? What did they do? What are the wives names? Start with listing known information say 1880 then track backwards. At least post that information and someone may be able to connect.

I am looking for any information on Bennie D. Tew born circa 1902 in Robeson County, NC. He is the son of Branson B. Tew and Florence Dorman. I have a picture of him taken around 1908 and would like to get it to his descendants. It is signed by his mother, Florence.
Bennie had several brothers and sisters namely, Armatha born 1893, Erastus born 1895, Eddie born 1899 and Lillie born 1908. Any information would be appreciated.

HI; thank-you for your intrest. I was researching for a friend and I have passed on all of the information to him. I do know that the Tew family migrated to Dresden, Ontario and started a number of businesses. The most popular business to that area was the lumber yard. There were brothers that ran businesses. Other family members migrated to Brant County, Ontario.
There is a website under the name of researcher Bill Martin. In there you will find helpful Ontario cemetary records in the list of search sites. Good luck in your research.
Thom Brown

I have an original Cabinet Card photograph of “Miss Cora Sheldon – Jamestown, NY”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in Jamestown (Chautauqua Co.) NY, and on the back of the photo is printed “1883”. She looks to be in her early 20s.

I found Cora Sheldon in the 1880 census for Ellicott (Chautauqua Co.) NY, age 20, born IL, daughter of Porter and Mary Sheldon. In the 1900 Jamestown, NY census, she was Cora S. Tew, born May 1860, living with her parents, Porter and Mary Sheldon, and living with them was her daughter, Dorathea Tew, age 11 (born 1889).

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Cora Sheldon Tew.

Agree. History becomes lost very quickly unless recorded. I believe his partnership was called Ernest tew and Co. and his specialisation was Georgian architecture. It may be worth checking if anyone that worked with him is still around - perhaps there would be some record in the Bath Architectural societies. Good luck
James

Henry TEW (1654 Portsmouth RI) m1 Dorcas (nee ?) and m2 Sarah Paul. Some say that Dorcas was "Dorcas Paul". But that suggestion seems to stem from only a single source, "Broderbund WFT Vol. 3, Ed. 1, Tree #3702. Perhaps some kind sole having access would check the Broderbund Tree to see if maybe a more basic reference is indicated. Otherwise, I am expecting that Dorcas' last name remains unknown.

Tew - spelling of

The name of Tew had many different spellings, at least for my branch of the family. We now spell it Thew, but in early records from early 1600's thru the late 1700's it was also spelled: Tew; Teu; Few; Feuu; Feu. These were the spellings in the Dutch records as some of my family members married into the Dutch line. Regarding the pirate, Thew, my mother tried to do some research on this but could not get too far as the records are too sketchy. There was some suggestion that he may be a distant member of our family but I doubt anyone will ever be able to trace his exact lineage. Because early Americans wrote down what they heard (spelling not being their strong suit !!) it helps to try to pronounce the word several different ways, or spell it multiple ways and do your search accordingly.
