I was doing research on Don Manuel Domingo Garcia de Tejada in the old Spanish records Archive at the old Ursuline Convent building in New Orleans. I became very excited to find the following records. Don Manuel Gregorio de Tejada was the King's accountant for the Royal Customshouse. There was a lot of information on him, his wife and children, plus his parents, etc. There were similiarities in his name and the Natchez Manuel and in his mother's name and the Natchez Manuel wife's name. Could this be an error in recording the info?
However, the dates, etc. did not correspond to the Natchez Manuel. So I learned that there this were two de Tejada's in Louisiana at this time.
Were they related? Probably not. I have since learned that the name de Tejada is probably not the surname of either Manuel. The Natchez Don Manuel's surname is probably Garcia and the New Orleans Don Manuel's surname is probably Gregorio.
However, there were at least two Spaniard de Tejada in Louisiana during the time Louisiana was goverened by the Spanish. Both had children. We know that our ancestor and his two sons stayed in Louisiana. I do not know what happened to the other de Tejada family. Do any of you have info on what became of this family. Are there still descendants of that branch in Louisiana?
