ADA M. THAYER was born June 01, 1888, and died January 26, 1972 in Norway, Maine, last residence Sumner, Oxford County, Maine. She married CARL H. STEVENS, SR. September 22, 1906 in Maine.

Mrs. Irene Stevens Eastman
SUMNER - Irene Stevens Eastman, 84, of Front Street Sumner, died peacefully July 4, 2005 at Stephens Memorial Hospital after a brief illness with her loving family by her side and with the support of her many friends and neighbors. She was born in Sumner on June 18, 1921, the daughter of the late Carl and Ada (Thayer) Stevens Sr. and was educated in Sumner schools. She had worked for several years at the Norway Shoe Shop and had been a homemaker most of her life. She married Albert E. Eastman on July 29, 1939 and was married for 66 years; he died just six months ago on January 4, 2005. Mrs. Eastman was a faithful member of the West Sumner Universalist Church and a member of the Mountain View Chapter # 197 O.E.S. of Buckfield. She was a former member of the Women's Relief Corp and active in the Pleasant Pond Cemetery Association. She and her husband owned and operated Bisbee Orchards for many years. She was dedicated to her family and she was responsible for arranging family reunions. She loved watching her grandchildren play sports. She was an avid Celtics and Red Sox fan. She was noted for her cooking, especially for her baked beans and custard pies. Mrs. Eastman is survived by one son, Thaine Eastman and his wife Gail of West Sumner; one daughter, Joan Campbell and her husband Fred of West Sumner; three brothers, Howard Stevens and his wife Edith of Canton, Harley Stevens of South Paris and Carl Stevens Jr. and his wife Barbara of Baltimore, MD; eight grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and many special nieces, nephews and neighbors. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years; one sister, Marion Hazelton and two brothers, Dwight Stevens and Stanley Stevens. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, July 8 from 4-8 p.m. at the Andrews Funeral Home, 64 Andrews Road, South Woodstock. Funeral services will be held at the West Sumner Universalist Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Marilyn Hammond officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Pond Cemetery, Sumner. Memorials are suggested to the West Sumner Universalist Church, c/o Kristy Durgin, Main Street, Sumner, ME 04292.

Mr. Albert Bisbee Eastman
WEST SUMNER - Albert Bisbee Eastman, 90, of Front Street West Sumner, died at his residence on Tuesday January 4, 2005. He was born in Manchester, NH on September 15, 1914, the son of Fred and Ruth (Bowley) Eastman and had been educated in the Augusta and Gardiner schools. He had lived in Sumner for the past 78 years. In his early years he worked at the South Portland Shipyard, and later worked at A.C. Lawrence tannery for 15 years before his retirement and as an orchardist, he owned and operated Bisbee Orchards. He was a member of the Granite Lodge #182 A.F. & A.M. of West Paris, Mountain View Chapter O.E.S. #197 of Buckfield, a former member of the Sumner Planning Board, former member of the Maine Apple Growers Association and a member of the Sumner Volunteer Fire Department. He had also been the Treasurer of the West Sumner Universalist Church. Mr. Eastman loved his orchards, woodworking, going for rides, Sunday dinners and will be especially remembered for his "Saturday night suppers". His family was his life and he would do anything for anyone. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Irene Eastman of West Sumner; one daughter, Joan Campbell and her husband Fred of West Sumner; one son, Thaine Eastman and his wife Gail of West Sumner; three sisters, Olive Harris of Pennsylvania, Elizabeth Childs of Peru and Ruth Lieberman of Texas; one brother, Richard Page and his wife Corrine of North Conway, NH; one sister-in-law, Jody Eastman of Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Ricky and Donna Kangas of Buckfield, Stephen and Kelly Kangas of West Sumner, Jason and Kim Eastman of West Sumner, Troy and Julie Eastman of West Sumner, Shane and Michelle Moffett of Livermore Falls, Bruce and Jennifer Campbell of South Paris, Shane and Dianne Slicer of Waterford and Darlene Campbell of Waterford; 17 great-grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Edwin Eastman and Arthur Eastman. Relatives and friends called at the Andrews Funeral Home, 64 Andrews Road, South Woodstock on Friday evening, January 7. Funeral services were held on Saturday at the West Sumner Church at 1 p.m. Burial will be in the Pleasant Pond Cemetery, West Sumner. Memorials in his memory may be made to the Universalist Church, West Sumner.
