My husband's father came from this village in Romania. His mother was Christina (Konrad). Apparently, his great-grandfather (Nikolas Theiss 02.05.1891) came to the USA after the death of his first wife and remarried starting a new family in Chicago. He also died in Chicago. Does anyone know of this branch of the family?

Hi, I know this has been a long time since you posted this.
My Theiss family lived in Phila. and I think we had relatives that lived in Roslyn, Pa. Have never been able to find out the connection. My Ggrandfather came oveer in 1860 and settled in Phila. He was Henry Theiss, and had Lena, Emma, George, Jacob, Henry, Mathilda, Elizabeth..He had 2 brothers that came over, Phillip and Johann (John) or George. One of my uncles said they were cousins in Roslyn.
Is that where your family was from?

Florence Theiss Sweger, Phila.,Pa

Just wanted to make a fresh posting to this Hufft line. I have no new information. I am looking for anyone who has a copy of the Bible record for Joseph Hufft, son of Jacob and Elizabeth Hoh. It lists the birth names and dates for his children. It was my understanding the bible was written in German and a lady by the name of Virginia O'Dell had a copy while her brother retained the bible. I believe Virginia was located in Washington State, possibly.

I also descend from Joseph Hufft b. 1778 through his son, David b. 1808. David m. Rebecca Parsons and secondly, Sarah Ann Horton. I believe Sarah Ann and Elizabeth Horton were sisters, daughters of Hugh and Rebecca Scott-Horton. I descend from David and Rebecca's youngest son, Jesse Marion b. 1835 d. 1920. I, too, am interested in discovering more of Jacob Hufft and Elizabeth Hoh. Did Jacob and Elizabeth have other children? I have been unable to locate Jacob and Elizabeth in America. The first I see of this Hufft line in America is Joseph Hufft in 1810 Knox County, TN.

And Charles Theiss born in Ohio, married John Limmer's sister Barbara in a double wedding in Sheboygan Co. WI. in 1869. This Limmer family came from Barvaria, John, Conrad, and sister Barbara.
Hello, I was reading your thread on the Theiss-Limmer conections and was curious about the Ohio/Limmer stuff. Was it by any chance Perrysburg/Wood County? Many Limmers are from there, including 4 John (Johann) Limmers in my family alone! Any info would be appreciated.
Considering the date on this post, this is probably a long shot. I believe that these are my maternal great-great grandparents. The Annie that you mentioned would have been my great-grandmother. She married Harry Derby and lived in VA. They had 7 siblings. My grandmother Mildred was one of them. Harry passed away suddenly and Annie was unable to care for all the children. Mildred (now deceased) was given to a family to be raised as a young child. She hardly remember any of her siblings. She had limited contact with one brother Harry. I can't give you much more information than that. We knew nothing of her family until I became a member of this site. I would appreciate any information that you may have gathered. Thanks, Katie

My gggrandmother was Catherine Missouri Tice Scott who went from Alabama to Utah to Wyoming. I'd like to contact any one who may be working on this line. I have much more time for research now after a four year break. My daughter's family is moving to GA so I will be in the state several times a year. I now live in New Mexico.
Theiss Family

My family came from Uersfeld, Germany in two groups. The first arrived in 1842, Maria Elizabeth Theiss Theisen Dec.27,1810, her husband Peter Theisen 1805, Their children Phillip, Catherine, Maria, Louis, and her brothers Friedrich Gottfried Theiss May 30, 1821and Jacob Theiss Oct. 30, 1825 too Elyria, Ohio in 1842. In 1843 brothers Philipp Nov. 14, 1816, Heinrich Jan. 30, 1819 and his wife Barbara Hoffman Theiss Dec. 25, 1824 arrived in Elyria. They lived there 12 yrs before some moved on to Wisconsin in 1855. Their parents were Johann Conrad Theiss Mar. 15, 1784, born in Gruendelbach, christened in Werlau as were his 11 brothers and sisters, his wife Maria Margagetha Rheinganss Apr. 16, 1787, Rheinboellen. His parents were Philipp jacob Theiss, Nov. 13, 1739, christened in Werlau, and his wife Anna Maria Hilgert, His parents were Philipp Theiss and Anna Catharina Knapp no dates. This is where I need help looking for dates and data showing how Philipp's father Johann Friedrich Theiss no dates is the same or son of Johann Friedrich theiss married Nov. 15, 1698 in Werlau to Elisabetha Gertraud Napp, The LDS records states they are relatives. There aren't any records of the family before !698 in Werlau, Gruendelbach, St. Goar area. I have found some of my relatives in other's family trees, but because the records had misspelled their names they also had the wrong spelling. The census had Tice, Theis, Teis, Thaess, Tyson, most while in Elyria, Ohio and Sheboygan Co, WI. They then moved to South Dakota, then to Washington. The recorder would spell it as it sounds but it is Theiss. Also some of the German records misspelled it as Theis and Theisen. In Germany it was spelled with the hard s (sz) symbol.
I find it easier to communicate this way.

I have an Arthur Clarance Theiss B: 9-1876 in PA
I have a Nallie Theiss B: 4-1875 in PA
I have a Hattie Theiss B: 1-1880 in PA

These are all brothers and sisters....I know that Arthur Clarance Theiss wound up in Ohio (Toledo)...which is where most of my known relations live.

The above peoples parents were (according to memory from older family members) were Teba John Clarance Theiss B 11-1876 in PA
Wife: Phoebe Born in OHIO

After doing some research I found both people with birth dates and area around the same as the above except their last name was spelled Tice. Which of course is a derivation of Theiss.

Any help would be great. I never knew the Theiss side of my family. I do know again from the memory of older family members stated that John Clarence Theiss's parents came in from Germany. Can't be for sure though.

Kathy

Hello, Archivstelle Boppard, covers to Boppard area and the Hunsrueck region of Rheinland area. I looked up your Theuss in, familysearch.org, and found Anna Christina Theus, born 1692 Niederbacheim Darmstadt, Hessen-Nassau, Prussia. Married Johann Henrich Sixt, born Jan. 3, 1689 Mariensfels, Hesse-, Hessen-Nassau, Prussia, on Aug. 3, 1713 Baasen, New York. Hope this will help. To look them up go into familysearch.org, click on search, then click on International Genealogical Index, type in either name ( checking "Exact" Spelling will bring up the exact person your looking for, or you will get everyone close to the one you want and have to look through to list), select Germany region, and hit search.

More family links and parents going back in Germany. They are also in Rootsweb, which is a free Ancestry.com site. Type in Heinrich Six in search and search.

Hello, I am not sure about the Theuss line, I was able through Archivstelle Boppard's Dr. Michael Frauenberger to extend my Family Tree. Philipp Jacob Theiss' father was Philipp Theiss, born 1713 in Gruendelbach, his mother was Anna Catharina Knapp, born 1708 in Holzappel. Philipp Theiss' father was Johann Friedrich Theiss, born Dec. 18, 1670 in Hungenroth, his mother Elisabeth Gertrud Napp, born Feb. 7, 1679 in Werlau. Johann Friedrich Theiss' father was Philipp Theis, born in 1643 in Bickenbach, mother unknown. They also took Johann Conrad Theiss' wife Maria Margaretha Rheinganss family back five generations. As I stated I haven't found anyone in my Theiss family line spelling it Theuss so far. Jim.

He was born May 19th, 1833.
(The same first names were nothing unusual at this time). (The children got the name of her godfather mostly).

The arrival in America also can have been at the beginning of the year 1853.
