Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Donald Sondrol will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Theobald was born on July 18, 1917, in Muscatine, the daughter of Karl H. and Elnora Armstrong Pace. She married Clarence A. Theobald on June 25, 1938, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Muscatine.

She had worked at the Hawkeye Button Factory.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis Theobald and his wife, Connie, and Larry Theobald, all of Muscatine; and one sister, Ann Brackensick of Quincy, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister, Mildred Spitznogle.

Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Rev. Leif Pohl of the Grace Lutheran Church will officiate. Casket bearers will be his nephews. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by the combined squads of the American Legion Post 27 and the V.F.W. Post 1565.

Mr. Theobald was born on June 10, 1911, in Muscatine, the son of William and Mary Lange Theobald.

He was a lifelong resident of Muscatine.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Medical Corps in the Pacific Theater.

Mr. Theobald worked as a groundskeeper for Greenwood Cemetery for over 40 years, retiring in 1975.

He is survived by nieces and nephews, Doris Trask, Cedar Rapids, Vera Carlisle of Florida, Elsie Hall of Arkansas, Mrs. Edward (Dorothy) Riley, George Olson, Robert Olson, Herman Theobald, Carl Theobald, James Greenwald, Mrs. Mike (Shari) Yocom, Larry Theobald and Dennis Theobald, all of Muscatine.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, August, Herman C., and William F. Theobald, and four sisters, Albertine Olson, Elizabeth H. Kurriger, Marie Theobald, and Katherine Theobald.

My name is David Lanham. You do not know me. It is possible that we are both trying to trace some information about the same family and i believe you may be much further along in your search. I am a paranormal investigator along with a couple friends of mine. We believe that it is possible that we may have investigated a house that maybe on land originally owned by a James Theobald(original founder of Dry Ridge,Ky) We have voices and photographic evidence from the case and are trying to confirm that we have our facts straight as far as the original owner of said property. Could you tell me or do you have any record of just exactly where James theobalds property was in dry ridge. We have reason to believe that the property we investigated(on Bannister Pike) off of U.S. 25 was his. Any help you could give. Possibly if your willing, even old 1800's to present family photos would be great too. I am hoping that maybe some of those photos may match up with facial(photo)shots that we've caught on digital. My Daniel was from Moerzheim, Germany and his son George Michael, was my ancestor. He also had a son named Andrew. Daniel came to Shelby Co. with his daughter Anna Maria Kuhn in about 1852. George Michael brought his family in 1840.

Does anyone have additional information on the family of James F. Theobold/Theobald, b abt 1795, who married Martha "Patsy" Arnold 15 February 1817 in Franklin County, Kentucky? JFT was brother-in-law to General William Arnold, and accompanied him to Tennessee by the early 1820's. The family appears in the 1830 census for Madison County, Tennessee, and then "disappears."

I am a Theobald by marriage and from what I have discovered John was Nicholas' son. So far I have discovered that Nicholas was born in Bavaria Germany on 10-9-1840. Clement is my ggg gradfather too. I am related through his daughter Harriet who married William Secker Fake. The Fakes ended up in California but I am not sure exactly when they arrived. I know Harriets son Albert was in California when his childern were born.

Fastest reply on record! Yes am indeed a cousin descended from Emma - I'm currently swapping records with a couple of other 'cousins' and don't have all together yet. I lost some vital info but Volunteers have been a great help.
Can you send anything on Stephen's family? I will put this together to send to you if you're interested. Do you have old photos of the Theobalds. I have a newsclipping & pic of Amos, a few of the workers at Theobald & Sons, and of course some of Emma's family.

I have a g.g.g.grandfather Clement Chevalier Theobald born 1805 who had grandsons Clement and Alfred both born in Tottenham. A couple of generations out, but surely can't be a coincidence.

I am trying to locate my ancestor Wendall Theobald, (spelled Wendle, Wendel, etc. on various documents. He was born Feb 1842 in Germany, immigrated to the US about 1850. He was mustered into the Union army Regimental NY Band 64 Regiment at Elmira, NY. He married Mary A. Gelts. She is also from Germany. Mary Ann Gelts born 1847, died in Corry Pa in 1909. Wendall died in Corry, Pa in 1919. Their children are Mary born 1870 in NY, Francis born 1872, John born 1880 in NY.,and Elizabeth Ann born 1881 or 1883 in Pa. I am a descendent of Elizabeth Ann Theobald, daughter of Wendel Theobald and Mary A. Gelts. Elizabeth Theobald married William Casper Shields in Corry, Pa. Please write me with any info. Correction to previous info, Ruth Theobald was a woman, her maiden name was Ruth Agnes Harvey, she had a brother named William Harvey who lived in San Bernardino area, William had a son named Wes Harvey, visited their house in the 60'
s, I have also learned that Ruth may have been married also to a man with the last name Lee and may have had a son, named Richard R. Lee, if anyone recognizes this info please contact me.

I have Clement Chevalier Theobald born about 1887 married to Rose Burnham born 1889. She had many sisters. They had two sons, Clement born about 1911 and Alfred Frederick Theobald, born 1913 in Tottenham, Middlesex (my father).
Apparently Clement Chevalier was killed during the 1st ww by his own hand grenade and Rose Burnham was in a sanatorium possibly because she had epilepsy. My father Alfred was brought up his maternal grandmother Harriet Flint. He lived with one of his aunts Beatrice (Bunny) when he was a young man.
I am finding it quite difficult to connect any ancestors to Clement Chevalier. I've found an Amos Theobald but am not sure if there is a connection.
Would love to know if you have more information.

I am also looking at Theobalds with an S. George Theobalds was the vicar at Old Hutton Church, Westmorland over the turn of the 1800s and he conducted the 1831 census there. I belive his wife's name was Margaret Dixon. He is buried at the church and his gravestone survives. Rather interestingly he is buried with another older George Theobalds who I belive to be his father. There was also a grave there for a younger vicar John Theobalds - probably George the younger's son.
Older George's dates : 1736 - 1824
Younger Rev George's dates: 1760 - 1834

Is there anyone who knows where these two men came from?

my husband tells me that Clement Theobald was a local builder for many years in Melford then amalgamated/taken over by Cubitts but kept the Theobald name. Theobald as you know is a common Suffolk name and Clement is no relation to my family as far as I know. My husbands family comes from Borley, Wormingford, Acton

Hi. I am looking for information on my great grandfather. His name was Bertie James Theobald and he was born in 1894 in Faversham, Kent, England. He moved to Quebec, Canada around 1910 and marriage Mabel Barbara Sharpe of Quebec City. Bertie's parents were George William Theobald born 1848 in Faversham and his wife was Mary Ann Sparks born 1855 in England. They married March 6, 1874 in Faversham Parish Church, Faversham, England. They had 12 children, most of which stayed in Faversham area. George William Theobald parents were Thomas Theobald born 1814 in Ospringe, England. He married Mary Alice Post born 1821 in England (most likely). They had 2 kids. As Mary Alice died young in 1854. Any information would be appreciate especially if you are a Theobald from the Kent, England area as my family has been there since 1597.

I am looking for information which is probably from the same family tree - George Theobald, born Somerton, Suffolk, circa 1810. Was reputed to be the son of John and Frances Theobald, however I cannot find record of any Frances. George married Susan Johnson and they lived in Hawkedon, Suffolk before emigrating in 1857 with most of their family to the United States. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Charles Theobald

I am looking for informatioon Charles Theobald born around 1840 in Assington Suffolk.
I know he married a lady called Charlotte (Butcher) and on the 1861 census Charles dissapeares.
Charlotte Theobald then remarries and becomes Charlotte Crewell.

On the census it says Charles Theobald is a soldier but I dont know of any battles that took place between 1861 an 71.

I cannot find any records of him
can any one help me

Hello! Thanks for the article - very interesting. There were two different lines of Theobalds in Breckenridge, and it looks like the Theobalds you are thinking of (Robin's line?) are not mine. Mine were Peter Theobald, and his brother Edward, who owned Theobalds Market for many years. Peter eventually took it over I think.

My family came to Breckenridge in about 1870 - they were Fletcher's (Donald, his son Eli, wife Mary). Eli eventually had my Grandfather Theodore (Ted) in 1906 who was very active in Breckenridge - he & my grandmother Helen (who was a Theobald)were County Asssessors for a number of years. He was Assessor when he died, and I think my grandmother took over? I'm not sure about how that all came about.

She was also a school teacher for many years. He was Mayor for a while, and active with the Masons & Lions. He was Fire Chief for 21 years. His father Eli was also involved in the Fire Dept and County Government. No Man's Land celebrations were a big thing for them too. They are all buried in Valley Brook cemetary.

They lived at 100 S. Harris, on the corner. My brother recently sold my grandparents old house, and I understand that it is being re-habed. That is kind of a bitter sweet thing to me - knowing it's not "ours" anymore. When my grandfather died, they had to have the service in the old high school gym (now the community college) because there were so many people. There is a plaque in his memory on the old high school building now.

Anyway - thanks again for the article. I like to read about the history - there is just so much of it there!

I am ooking for information on George & Matilda (Armstrong) Farley who resided in Marlow (now Armstrong), Quebec. George was born in Bristol, England 8 Oct 1821 and died in Armstrong Quebec. Matilda was a daughter of James & Mary Rachael (Eagleson) Armstrong and was born either in Ireland or Scotland. Matilda's sister, Nancy Rachel (1834-1917) married George's brother Peter (1832-1876).

Any help on these two lines will be greatly appreciated.
