I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave El Paso County, Colorado as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Our government has no family contact at this time for this soldier

Soldier: ROMEO GEORGE THERIAULT
Born: 1913
Date of loss: September 4, 1950 MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
I have been looking for Francis Xavier Theriault's father and mother. He came to Garden Island in Kingston, Ontario as a employee and there had my grandfather. It's possible he was born in Sorel, Quebec or that could have been his father. I would really appreciate any information you have on this.

Leroy was my great, great uncle. His brother Wallace was my grandfather. They were born on Garden Island around Kingston Ontario. It was a shipbuilding island owned by a company that their father, Francis Xavier Theriault, worked for. I am in the process of finding his father and mother. I have an ancestry site on ancestry.com under Campbell. It.s public so you can go in and look there. It shows his marriage to your grandmother with dates and children.

I have traced my ancestors back to my great grandfather. I am looking for information on his parents. He was living on Garden Island when my grandfather was born and was married to Catherine. I found a censes stating this. There was a Francis Xavier Theriault born in Sorel, Quebec bot I don.t know if this was him. I would really appreciate any information anyone can give me on this and thankyou for your time. The 1891 censes of Canada states Frank Theriault and Catherine as my grandfathers Wallace,s parents. It says Francis was born in Quebec. It says he was born about 1849

The 1930 US census (the most recent available;1940 will not be released until 2012) lists 166 Theriaults in Salem MA., so unless you can find some more details about your grandparents, you are pretty much stuck at the starting gate. Among other facts that may develop value: Your uncle "Bee"'s real name; and was Larry Lawrence, or Laurent?
As for the Tree: very, very few of us are lucky enough to to be able to plug into a developed and compiled, pre-existing, pre-researched family tree. Most of our family trees are out there in the form of a thousand dispersed facts, waiting for us to assemble them ourselves.

William j. theriault,my great grandfather, from what is written on his naturalization papers and in his obituary married Agnes Nichols in Harrisville, N.Y. about 1897. I have no proof, but I think he may have been married before Agnes because he is listed as having another son born in 1887 whose name was Nicholas Theriault who was living in Madison, Maine in 1937 when William died. My grandfather, Joannes Edward Theriault was born in Lyon Mountain, N.Y. May 12, 1899, and later his name was changed to Edward John Terry.

I have Louis/Lewis Taro born November 25, 1847 in Trois-Rivieres, died October 4, 1907 in Geneva, NY. He married Eleanor Pippen who was born in Wellington, Ontario and died in 1937 in Geneva, NY. Their children were Minnie (b. Brockville, Ont) (Armenia), Eleanor (b in Oshawa, Ont), Josephine (b. Oshawa), malvina (b. Oshawa), Elizabeth (b. Geneva), Aloysia (b. Geneva), and Rosa (b. Geneva). These are the only names I know, other than Philip who was born in 1877 in Brockville, Ontario. He married Edna Hawley and had two sons, Louis II and George. Louis II married(?) Gladys Connelly and they had one child before she died named Michael Louis. Louis II re-married Mildred Lawson. I would supply more, but their children are still alive. I am Michael Louis' granddaughter.

I know in 1881 they were living in Oshawa, I found the census on the LDS site.

Hope this helps.

Theriault, Terre Haut, Taro

Hello, I've been researching my family and have come across the last name of Taro. I read somewhere that this may be an Anglicized version of Theriault, or Terre Haut. I know that it is not an Italian Taro because the man I am looking for information on was born in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec and was very much French-Canadian. If any of you have come across these surnames in connection with your search, please reply as soon as possible. Thanks.

I have been researching my family and am having trouble going back before the mid 1800s. The US census lists immigration from Canada (French) in 1870-1871. I'm not really sure where to start looking in Canada. The names I have are the following:

Flora (unknown)1838-1920? married unknown Therriault
Children:
Minnie (Lumina?) 1860-1949
Josephine 1864-1909
David 1865 (my great-grandfather)
Belle (Belzimier?) 1867-1909?
Annie (Honorine?) 1875
Alfred 1876-1911
Flora 1879

The first 4 of the children were born in Canada. Their mother was a widow by the time of the 1880 US census. Not knowing the father's first name or the mother's last name, I'm stuck.

I have quite a bit of information on the children's families.

Nancy

Thank you so much for looking. Are you saying that even if the offspring married in Chicago, the marriages might be recorded in the Quebec parish of origin? I have what I believe are the correct marriages in Chicago, but I am not 100% certain. My only other thought was if I could find birth records for the offspring who were born in Canada, that might help me locate the parents? I'm uncertain where to look for those though.

On an odd note, I found one of the great grandchildren lives 1/2 mile from my father in Florida. He called them to see if they knew the father's name, I'm hoping they can tell us. They knew of Flora.

Nancy

Ron Theriault-Terry,
Grandance is more usually spelled Grand Anse, which is French meaning Big Cove. There are at least two locations named Grand Anse (or Grande Anse) in Nova Scotia, one in Richmond County along the Cabot Trail, in Western Cape Breton Island. The other is on the Lennox Passage near Hwy 104 in South Cape Breton. You would probably need to pinpoint which community, then write to the church and get a copy of the baptismal record from 1865 which should give the parents' names.
You should also try the web site
www.terriau.org
Karen Theriot Reader
Greetings,
Could be Theriault as you suggest. Why don't you post some names and we'll see if it's in our databases?
Three Rivers (Trois Rivieres) is certainly a good place to find some Theriaults.
Evelyn in Montreal

Theriaults - Regions of Origin

Greetings,
I've combed through my extensive database and haven't located your couple yet.
The two major provinces of origin would be Quebec and New Brunswick.
Your spelling of Theriault with two "rr"s might mean they are from northern Quebec - but it could also just be one of the variant American spellings.
If they did come from Quebec, then the marriages of the offspring might be recorded in the Quebec parishes of origin, so it might help if you list the offspring with spouses and marriage dates (even if these are approximate).
Evelyn in Montreal

Marriage registrations in home parishes
I found my grandparents' marriage recorded in his parish of origin. As I understand it there was a lot of temporary economic migration going on and since they might come back the formation was sometimes registered.
Also, many Quebec genealogical societies have copied American registries such as some from New Hampshire.
Birth records
I have noted many birth records for the names you have listed but they are not clustered in any one family. Also, your Theriaults could be from anywhere in Canada, even if originally they came from Acadia.
--------------------------------------------------------
One thing you have to remember is that once you post here the information stays so someone somewhere may have built a family tree that will intersect yours, and they may come upon your message accidentally when researching their own family.
The best way to have your message pop up is to have a clear message that has as much information as possible from the first American generation.
In you message, write
Canadian couple, so and so.
First couple in America, with the words Chicago and the state and date of crossing
Do you know your ancestor,s occupation.
If you have them in the census what are the neighbourhood names^
Evelyn in Montreal
Evelyn in Montreal
