Re: Jean Baptiste Villor

Jean Baptiste Vileor THERIOT was born 6 Jun 1829, son of Charles THERIOT & Hortence Scholastique POIRIER. His paternal grandparents were Thomas THERIOT & Marie Agnes DAIGRE, both born in Acadia. He was baptized 1 Nov 1829 at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, St. Martinville, LA. (His cemetery listing, however, lists his birth year as 1828.) He married his first cousin Cleonise Joanne RICHARD, daughter of Rosemond RICHARD & Anastasie POIRIER, around 1847, since the validation of their marriage on 24 Oct 1855 at Abbeville, Vermilion Parish, LA, stated that they had been married for 8 years. They had at least five children born from 1849 to 1863.
He was a Private on the Roll of Company H, Consolidated Crescent Regiment, Louisiana Infantry, who enlisted 14 May 1862 at St. Martinville, LA. He is on Federal Rolls of POWs captured on 14 Mar 1864 at Fort De Russey and sent to Baton Rouge, LA on 20 Mar 1864. [My great-grandfather Austin Desiré THERIOT was in the same Company, and captured during the same battle, although they were only 4th cousins once removed.]
Jean Baptiste Vileor died on 29 Oct 1899, buried from Sacred Heart Church in Creole, Cameron Parish, LA. He was buried at Chenier Perdue, LA. At the time of his death he was said to have "owned over 4,000 acres of land, more than 1,000 head of cattle, and large herds of wild Creole ponies." (See Nola Mae Wittler Ross, PIONEERS OF CALCASIEU AND CAMERON PARISHES; vol. III (Lake Charles, LA: author, 1990), pp. 70-73. Other records are found in Donald J. Hébert, SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA RECORDS series.)

There was a dispensation for 3-4 consanguinity (based on the church Register at Plouër).

Marguerite THERIOT was born around 1728 in Acadia, daughter of Charles THÉRIOT (#21 in White's DICTIONNAIRE) & Françoise LANDRY. She married around 1752 to Jean-Baptiste AUCOIN, son of Pierre & Catherine COMEAU (This information is from White's unpublished DICTIONNAIRE II.)
In Albert Robichaux, THE ACADIAN EXILES IN SAINT-MALO, Part I, Vol. I, p. 13, family #22, Marguerite THERIOT & Jean AUCOIN have seven children listed (1st two born in England). She and husband and two children disembarked at St. Malo, France, from England on 23 May 1763 from the ship "La Dorothee." They resided in the parish of Plouer between 1763-1773.
In 1785, when Marguerite THERIOT was age 57, she traveled with husband Jean Baptiste AUCOIN and five children as the 31st family (of 7 persons) aboard "La Ville d'Archangel," bound for Louisiana. They arrived on 3 Dec 1785 in New Orleans, where the father received a knife, a large knife, two axes, two hatchets, and three shovels and hoes from the Spanish authorities. The AUCOIN children were: Marie, age 27, born in England; Jean Baptiste, age 21; Rose Magdelaine, age 19; Rose Anastasie, age 16; and Pierre, age 11. The four younger children had been born in France during the exile.

Re: THERIOT,BROUSSARD

Gerville THERIOT was born around 1833, probably in Assumption Parish, LA, son of Ambroise Bernard THERIOT & Marie Modeste BARRIEAU. His grandfather Pierre Marie THERIOT was born during the Acadian exile in France. In 1785 Pierre Marie came to Louisiana at age 15 with just his father, Pierre THERIOT (his mother Elisabeth TRAHAN and 7 siblings had died in France).
Gerville was also spelled with a J, even as Terville. He married (recorded as Janville) on 27 May 1856 to Celimene Elise (recorded as Leczman) BROUSSARD at St. Martin Parish Courthouse (SM Ct. Hse.: Mar. Bk. 1, #116).
They had seven children, one of them baptized in St. Mary Parish as Marie Evelina, daughter of Terville THERIOT & Elise BROUSSARD, b. 4 Feb. 1870 (Charenton Ch.: v. 1, p. 209). She is apparently the Evelia THERIOT who married on 10 May 1887 to Augustin Adelard RICHARD, son of Augustin RICHARD & Adeline CHARPENTIER (SM Ct. Hse.: Mar. # 5048).
Mrs. Gerille [sic] THERIOT was buried on 9 Aug 1906 at age of 75 years in Iberia Parish, LA (Lydia Ch.: v.2, p.7).
Gerville remarried on 28 Dec 1908 to Celestine ALLEMAN.
Jerville THERIOT, age 82 years, died 6 Nov 1914 in Iberia parish, LA, as recorded in the Louisiana Statewide Death Index.
My grand father Gabriel Laffitte Obineta, from San Sebastian Spain, very close to France, proved that our Laffitte branch was descendant from Pierre and Jakes Laffitte. The papers were lost in the spanish civil war.
Who was this Jean Baptiste Laffitte?

I will be looking forward to hear from you.

Patricia

He is my grandmother's grandfather. He was reportedly born in Tarbes, France in 1833. He married Josephine Theriot (born in St. James Parish, Louisiana, 1835). The marriage certificate I have is dated October 17, 1854 St. Michel (currently in Convent. Louisiana...about forty five minutes drive from New Orleans.) They had eight children, including my grandmother's father, Louis Gabriel Laffitte, born in St. James Parish, LA. 1864. My grandmother always said that she was descended for Pierre and Jean Laffite, but I haven't been able to find a definite link. Does any of this connect with your Laffitte family?

Anyone having information on a Theriot family living in vicinity of Eugene, Albany, or Corvallis Oregon or US ARMY Camp Adair (not far from Corvallis) circa 1942 to 1944 ?? I see some possible census hits but seeking info to possibly match up one or two very old photos circa wartime. Thanks dave@LenderDave.com
