Re: Origins of Antoine Terou dit Laferte
I read messages and answers of some people about our ancestor Antoine Terou dit Laferte who arrived here in 1693 and got
married in 1706. I think there is a lot of confusion and I would like to add some precisions.
First, about Verdun-sur-Garonne, it is important to mention it is a theory stating Antoine was BORN there, as we did not find
HIS family nor himself in our searches in Verdun yet for the period 1670-1680.
We may think Antoine maybe only lived there. Our french contact found a Antoine christianized in 1676 from the marriage of
Andre Terou and Jeanne Clamens.
The searches must continue before making the affirmation "our" Antoine's mother was somebody else than Jeanne Petit. There
are Terroux every where in France at that time (and also now! -- mostly in the North of France , in cities like Sarthe, Le Mans,
etc).
Never forget Antoine says himself on his marriage certificate (Church AND notary) his mother is JEANNE Petit. (I have a
copy scanned if you want it). This information has no reason to be false. I even had the chance to have in my hands the 1706
registry of Notre Dame church. If you come in Montreal, contact me, we will get you to the sources!
About all that saga, you will find here my father's point of view. (english)It is a small bio of Antoine at the same time.

Every thing said there is confirmed and we can show certificates(with names that fits with reality ;)
In 93, my father Emile contacted Verdun to get proofs Verdun was the birthplace of Antoine. My father also went to Verdun in
1996 in a an official visit, received by the mayor, etc. and still no proof can makes us be sure about the "Clamens Theory".
My father and I are doing searches on Theroux families since more than 15 years and searches begun in the forties by my
grand-uncle Leopold, in Montreal and Yamaska Quebec.
Like my father, I observe with desolation the multiplication of our preliminary work on Antoine's life in France, as it is unfinished
but have been published prematurely on some web sites and also by a genealogical society. So, I'm sorry to repeat it is not
confirmed Antoine was born on 31 dec 1675, because his mother is Jeanne Petit and not Jeanne Clamens.
Thank You. I'm would be very happy to have your comments about that!
