Hi Barbara:

Yes, Colin also helped me put with a lot of Thirsk information. For many years I had known that George and Nancy had married, but had little more - until Colin contacted me.

Nice to hear from you, and good luck!

Dave
Hi Dave,

Thanks to you, I have a great deal of information on the Hunter side. I'm in touch with Colin and he's supplied me with his research on the Thirsks - so I'm grateful to both of you.

My husband's name is Richard Grant Davies. He was born in Lancashire, England, emigrated to Toronto in the fall of 1951, and we married in Mount Albert on September 19, 1953. The Davies made their way to Lancashire from Wales long before Grant was born, but some relatives still live there.

We have three daughters - Christine , Aug. 4, 1959. Glynne , Dec. 27, 1960 and Jill, May 1, 1970.

Let me know if I can supply you with any more information.

It's good to have connected with both you and Colin - cousins from both the Hunter and Thirsk sides.

Barbara

Barbara

Hi Barbara:

Yes, we would indeed be related, through the Hunter portion of the line. We would be second cousins, twice removed via John Hunter and Nancy Anderson. I did have the information you left in the message already, but one thing I don't have is "Mr. Davies" name :-) I did know you had married a Davies. What sort of information would you like - from Nancy and George to as close to the present?

My Hunter line which will show Nancy's ancestors if posted to http://www.islandregister.com/hunter.html and if you would like waht I do have on the Thirsks, just let me know...

Dave

Dear Colin,

I appreciate your response to my queries. Would love to learn more about the Thirsks. How I wish I had paid closer attention to the stories my mom used to tell me about family when I was young!

I want to document our family history for our daughters and future generations so they'll know their heritage.

I still need to research the Armstrongs and my dad's family, the Pearsons. Should keep me occupied for the next few years as I'm at a disadvantage trying to do so from Washington state.

Again thank you - I look forward to hearing from you again. My email address is barbdavies@comcast.net.

Barbara

Dear Barbara: I'm a distant Thirsk cousin. I have quite a bit of information on your Thirsk line. Your great grandparents, George Thirsk (1830-1898) and Nancy Jane Hunter (1836-1911) were well-known residents of the Mount Albert area in the latter part of the 19th century. Please contact me for more.

Colin Reid

Hi,

I've just begun searching for my family records, and came across your message. My grandmother was Sarah Jane Thirsk - daughter of George. She married Malcolm Armstrong and they had two children - my mother, Barbara Hunter Armstrong and my uncle Walter Armstrong. My mother married Horace William Pearson and they had two children. My brother, John Bruce Pearson was born January 13, 1922 and I (Barbara Joan) was born on January 4, 1933. My brother is deceased as are my mother and father.

I believe that my grandmother, Sarah Jane, raised her younger siblings after the demise of her parents, and married later in life. She lived with my mother and father and died when I was 5 years old in 1938 at the age of 80. My parents resided in Mount Albert until their deaths. My bother lived in Napanee, Ontario. I married an Englishman in 1953 and emigrated to the USA.

I assume that we are distant cousins - I still treasure the sterling silver grapefruit spoons with the Hunter initial!

Any information you can provide me with would be really wonderful.

Barbara Davies

That's interesting...my husband's father's family (bearpark) was from the same area. I wonder if there was any interaction between the two families. A distant family member has done some research on the bearpark family, so I will recheck it. Thanks.
