Hello,

I saw that your post on Ancestry.com as a reply to someone else about being a relative of Young Zemeriah Thomason and Nancy Jane McCoy. I too am a relative. My mother was Nancy Jane Pruitt. Her father was David Leroy Pruitt. His mother was Melinda Jane Thomason Pruitt. Melinda was the daughter of Young Zemeriah Thomason and Nancy Jane McCoy. My mother just past away last Saturday and I started to look up the relatives. I was told growing up, that my mom was named after her great grandmother Nancy Jane Mccoy Thomason. Any information you have would be wonderful, so I can pass on to the rest of my family.

Thank you,

Jody Garcia
Your James Thomason, as you probably know, was a descendant of George Thomasson, Sr., of Louisa Co VA. I haven't tackled any books for his line yet.

The research notebooks I've compiled, so far, have been for John Thomason Sr. of Elbert Co GA; John Thomason b. 1776 of Hall Co GA; George b. 1771 of Franklin Co GA; William J. Thomasson of Rutherford Co NC; and John Thomason Sr. of Laurens SC. I'm just finishing one for the Maury Co TN Thomasons.

Sorry I can't be more help right now, but please keep in touch if you change your address. You're on the list.

Re: Fanny Thomason marr. Arthur Marshall Whitman in TX 1913

My name is Meghan Whitman, and my father is Arthur Marshall Whitman 111. His grandmother was Fannie Thomason. Their (Arthur Marshall Whitman and Fannie's) 2nd child, Arthur M. Whitman, Jr. was my Grandpa. His sister was my great Aunt Irene, she has since passed on, so has my grandfather, Arthur Marshall Whitman, Jr. I would be Arthur Marshall Whitman the third's daughter, Meghan and am searching for any information on Fannie Thomason. I wanted to know if she or her parents were recognized Cherokee Indians on the Dawes Roll (since, from what my maternal Grandmother knew, name of Marguerite Felix Davis Whitman, died last year in January 08; aged 85 years old, she said (Fannie's parents) were both half Cherokee Indian) and have been avidly searching for info on her for about 5 years. I am trying to find any information on her that I can using the internet, my college's library, and other means so I can help try to piece this puzzle together myself. I did not know her in life, but did know my Grandfather, Arthur Marshall Whitman, Jr, and he died when I was 6 years old. I loved him very much, and am proud to have been part of his life, and proud that I look like him, and also very proud to have Native American blood, albeit, only a little. I would like to know just how much Cherokee indian blood I do have so that I can become a federally recognized member of their tribe, or at least have the acknowledgement from the Cherokee people, that I do share the same blood as them, and am not asking for any hand-outs, just trying to get information, so I can be able to trace my heritage, at least a little bit better, to see the picture, genetically, in a bigger aspect.

Brian,

Not sure if this is the same W.W. Thomason, but I did hit on a page in a tree by one "Talley" that you might find interesting: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/1411085/person/-1935551008 . Plug that into your browser and see if this is your W.W. or another one (shows dob of 12-20-1872, in AR).

Also, in the 1930 Census, there's a William W. Thomason, 57 (b. abt 1873, in AR) living in Oklahoma City, OK, with wife Laura M., age 57, also with a Courtney B. Thomason, male, age 15 living at home. Do the second two sound familiar?

Keep looking, and let me know if these should be yours.

Best regards,

Steve Cox
Knoxville, TN

I just like to do research. I saw your post on the gemfourm and when I googled him came across this also. I really searched the newspaperarchive.com to see if there was any more information on him. Only found the trial and incident in Oklahoma that led to the trial. It was mostly about the guy that did the actual shooting. I beleive he was from Arkansas so that might be where you need to look for information. Home towns like to keep up with the newsworthy. Good luck on your search.

A man who was working undercover killed two men and in May 1930 Snake Thomason was acquitted in the Oklahoma shooting. This article was in the San Antonio Express May 18, 1930 page 22

William W. Thomason was born in 1873 in Arkansas. He lived in Seminole, Oklahoma, from about 1910 to about 1930. He served as a U.S. Marshal and prohibiton officer while there. He was living in Springfield, Missouiri in 1942. I do not know when he died. It had to be after 1942. He probably died in Oklahoma. I would like to find his obit. Please help me to find when he died and let me know how I can find his obit. Thank you for your help. brian

Brian,

Do you have any more details about W.W. Thomason (I realize you're also searching, and may not know much more about him than you've already disclosed in these message board posts)? I looked through Carol Jacobson's book ("William J. Thomasson and His Descendants)," but cannot find a listing for a "W.W." or a "Snake" Thomason; thought if you had his full name ("William" is one of the W.'s, perhaps?), I might be able to run him down in Carol's work (she's out of Salem, OR).

Best of luck in your research, and with best regards,

Steve Cox
Knoxville, TN

[Descendant of William J., through his son, Berry William (md. Nancy Wall), through their daughter, Louisa Mildred Thomason, one of my paternal great grandmothers].

Thomason/Richardson Marriage

My Grandmother Minnie Richardson was the 3rd daughter born to Philip Richardson and ? Thomason in Kentucky in 1878.
Her mother died shortly after the birth and Minnie and two sisters were raised by the Thomasons. Sisters' names could have been Maragaret and Lee Ella. Any information on this Thomason family would be appreciated.
Philip Richardson, their father, moved on to the Rogers,AR area and remarried.
