looking for ancestors (parents of) Elizabeth Ellwood Thomson she married Robert Patrick in Anderton, Lanarkshire,Scotland on 24th September 1850. The family moved to Northumberland,England. Their son Robert married Margaret Johnson of North Shields in 1877 then she died and he re-married a year later and married Margaret Thomson of Gateshead in 1895. They are direct ancestors of mine. Grandparents down the line.

I believe that my great, great great grandfather George Graham was born in Fermanagh but moved with his parents James and Jane (nee Thomson)and his siblings to Stonehouse, Lanarkshire. Sometime before 1874. In 1874 George and his wife Sydney Thomson marries in Stonehouse. I believe however, that Sydney was also from Ireland (don't know where, though). James Graham parents were George Graham and Nancy Spiers, James were Alexander Thomson and Catherine Bruce and Sydney's parent were John Thomson and Dorothea (I think) Johnstone.

Does anyone know of the Graham and Thomson families?

DoD Identifies Army Casualties

The Department of Defense announced today the death of eight soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. They died Oct. 3 in Kamdesh, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their contingency outpost with small arms, rocket-propelled grenade and indirect fires. They were assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.

Pfc. Kevin C. Thomson, 22, of Reno, Nev.

TIPTON, Iowa -- Lillian Josephine Thomson, 85, 1200 Mulberry St., Tipton, died Friday, March 19, 2004, at Cedar Manor Nursing Home, Tipton, due to complications of Alzheimer's disease.

Services are 2 p.m. today at the Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. The Rev. DeLane Wright will officiate. Burial will be at Stanwood City Cemetery, Stanwood.

A memorial fund has been established for Alzheimer's research.

Mrs. Thomson was born Sept. 1, 1918, in Cedar County, the daughter of Lewis L. and Angie Etta Brown Aaron. She married Dale Marion Thomson Nov. 25, 1937, in Cedar Rapids.

She graduated from Mechanicsville High School.

She was a teacher's aid for the Tipton School System and a homemaker.

She was a member of United Methodist Church, Tipton, Rebekah's Club, Kozy Korner Klub, Harmony Point and Priscilla Circle.

Survivors include four sisters, Martha Maxson of Cedar Rapids, Eva Bauschlicher of Wheatland, Lena Rohlf of Tipton and Evelyn Simonson of Sioux Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a son, Larry F. Thomson.

I checked for you. There are several immigration records for her. If you want to email me, I can try to save them and send them to you by PDF (sarah_mckinnie@yahoo.com).

She is 24 and traveling with two men, Jas (James) R (30) and Robt M (33), listed as brothers. All three are single. The brothers are golf instructors and she is a seamstress. She came from Thornhill, Dumfries and is going to New York. Mary paid for the ticket herself and she is going to stay with a cousin, Samuel Richards, at 274 W 135th St. Her health is good, she has no disabilities, she is 5'6" tall, her complexion and hair is fair and her eyes are grey.

There are several other records for Mary F. Thomson for Detroit Border Crossings and Canadian Passenger Lists if you are interested.

I remember briefly looking at the NY passenger list in the past, because my great grandmother (MAT) is Marion Findlay Thomson, married name Weir b. 1882. However, when I noted the Thomsons were golf instructors, I didn't think they were my people as most of my people were miners and such. :-)

She appears to be listed on the New York Passenger lists 1820-1957 but having just paid for regular membership will have to wait until next month to upgrade to World without paying twice...hadn't anticipated an ancestor going to America when I signed up!

It was very interesting to see your site. Although my Thomson ancestors originated from Ireland (possibly County Down) I have a lot of Scottish relatives. I noticed the name Amos cropped up a couple of times. My great grandmother was Sarah Jane Amos, from Dover, Kent, who married Lt Col William Thomson (army paymaster) in 1872.

It would help speed up everyone's research and results on their respective families by having a male donor of their Thomson line submit a Y Haploid DNA sample. This can be accomplished thru ancestry, sorensen or other companies with online links. There are several web sites that have the information available for people that have been tested and on some there are family chronologies. It allows a contributor to remain anonymous if preferred. There appears to be some Thomson/Thompson results that are related family.

Hi Nancy, The simple answer to this question is yes, there were thousands of Thomsons in the Scottish regiments during both world wars, including my grandfather who was with the 7th Bn The Black Watch in WW1 and my Father who was with the 2nd Bn the Kings Own Scottish Borderers in World war 2.

I am looking for any information on Robert Thomson who married Isabel Dudgeon.

Isabel was born Dec 10 1786 in Longformacus, Berwick, Scotland to Andrew Dudgeon and Isabel Symonton.

The only info I have on Robert is that he was a tenant at Chapel Mains, Chapel on Leader estate.

Any information would be great. I would be interested to see if they had any children and would like any information I could get on Robert.

Charles Thomson was the secretary for the first Continental Congress that produced the Declaration of Independence 1776. He married Hannah Harrison who was the sister of Benjamin Harrison who signed the final copy of the Declaration. Bejamin of course was father to President William Henry Harrison who was grandfather to President Benjamin Harrison. Lots of folks seem to have Charles Thomson in their trees and other have Benjamin Harrison the signator but few have the connection of Ben's sister in there. Just wanted to post this important tidbit before I continue working on my Thompson/Harrison brick wall. Thanks.

The names Thomson and Thompson have no relevance to whether RC or Protestant. The Thomson derivative is supposedly the Scottish spelling and Thompson, the English.
