Thorn of Durnford, Wiltshire

Hi all, I am searching for any info on the Thorns specifically from Durnford. My interests are Jane Thorn (1846-1922) married to George Rattue. Janes parents - Peter Thorn and Elizabeth Blundon. Peters parents - Peter Thorn and Mary Barnes. I also have a cousin of Jane who married into the same family named Mary Ann Thorn (1815-1892) married to James Rattue. Mary Anns' parents - William Thorn and Hester Stacey. Williams' parents were Peter Thorn and Mary Barnes. Any info anyone might have I would be very grateful as I am now finding it all a little tricky.

Zoe

I have found the death certificate for Otis O. Thorne who died April 1, 1932, as a Sgt. stationed at Fort Hayes in Columbus, Franklin Co, OH. His wife is listed as Katherine Thorne. Otis was a grandson of Robert Carter Thorn who was raised in Jackson Co, Ohio, moved to Sothern Iowa & wound up in Montague Co, TX. So Otis's father Robert Pearl Thorne, stayed in Jackson Co, Ohio. If anyone has any news or is researching this branch of my Thorn Family. Please contact me.

Leeds, Fauquier, Virginia.

They would have been married abt. 1796, in Culpeper County, Virginia.

The 1810 & 1820 USCensus Records show that Lewis lived in Culpeper County, VA. Couldn't find the 1830 records. 1840 USCensus shows the family living in Fauquier County, Virginia.

I have no other information on the wife of Lewis.
Hello Helen,
Thanks for your reply, I am following this family too, because there is a possible connection related to surname and locality. My family origin interests are Thorne in nearby Ruddle/Newnham, hence my interest in the same name in Lydney and OldCroft. I have a Susan Thorne who was a school mistress in Newnham in the 1851 census and I am trying to relate her to the Lydney record but so far inconclusive. Please keep me informed as to how you get on.
Without colouring your research, let me know if you want the results of my study.
Regards,
Russell

My Grandmother was Mittie Lena Thorn (Cates). Her father was Edwin LaFayette Thorn. I have a Thorn family history published in 1936 by Delph L. Thorn in Savannah. William Butler died in 1874 in Tattnall County, Ga. The family history goes back to 1821.

We have done a lot of work in the past 4 years, we have gone back to Risum-Lindholm Germany and traced the family back to the early 1700's. We have also figured out the Agatha Diersen connection. We also have the Namanny connection back to thelate 1500's. I would be glad to share with you if you are interested.

Records indicate that the couple actually lost 4 or 5 children, one we definitely know of John Walker was born in 1900 died 1901 but we don't know if Mary Ann was their first child or their first living child that we have record of.
Does anyone have Thomas Thorn's ancestry back to a specific country or when they arrived in America ? I manage the Thorn DNA project and we are looking for Thorn males to compare their DNA to distinguish the different Thorn lines in AMerica. So far we have 3 different Thorn lines by DNA . It was earlier presummed that all Thorn's in AMerica was from the William Thorn line from New York. Tha isn't true as we have a line from the Carolina's and also Virginia. I would be happy to share any info that I have on the project or you can view it at
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/thorne

Elmer Thorn
Va>Oh>IA>MO

I think your Mary is my missing Mary thorn. Our Mary Thorn was born in Prince William Co Va abt 1783 the daughter of John Thorn and Mary Sanford. John was the son of William Thorn and Sarah Muse. We have no further details of her. Her brother John Thorn Jr moved to Wood Co Va around 1815. He was married to Susan (possibly Foley). He remained there until his death in 1850's. I believe we have the same Mary Thorn. Could you please email me at eandmthorn@suddenlink.net . We can exchange information.
Elmer Thorn
Thorn family from Prince William Co va.
