William Thornberry /Thornbury

I found a Chancery on a William Thornbury/Thornberry & wife. He was married to Mrs. Hannah Lloyd. Her previous husband, Thomas Lloyd, had left her a life interest in a wooded piece of property near Winchester, Frederick, Virginia. Two men, John Van Buskirk & Joseph Stover called them into court over the amount of wood they were chopping, selling & using. Apparently, these two men would receive the property after Hannah's death and didn't want her spending their inheritance!

I have images from microfilm if you are interested. Hannah's maiden name is given...but the ink is smeared, and that is the one copy that turned out blurry...so my guess is Yearsley, or Kearney or Thornbry.

John Levi Thornbury had several brothers and sisters. Franklin Thurman was one, I think. Only he changed the spelling to Thornberry. He was my grandfather.
The Thornburys came from Thornbury, England. My brother-in-law did a study a couple of years ago.
I was raised in NM. Who are you? Maybe we are cousins.

Thanks for the response. The first thing is to go to the website and familiarize with what is there. We have lots of surnames that has the prefix or suffix of Thorn. What we are looking for is anyone that has the ability to collect information on your line and promote your line to get Thornbury males to test their DNA. You said your grnadmother was a Thornbury, we need a male from her family to test their DNA to get your line started. As far as pedigree , go to the Thorne website and on the home page there is a place to post your pedigrees. Click on the link at the bottom of the page.
We hope to see the Thornbury line tested.

Sincerely,
Elmer Thorn
Group Adminisrtator

I'm trying to find the husbands of Mary Colclough Thornbury. Mary was mentioned in the will of her mother, Rachel Colclough, in Stafford County, Virginia. The will was dated 19 Dec 1748. Rachel mentioned her daughter, Mary Thornbury, by name. Later in the will she left bequests to "my daughter Mary Thornbury's daughter Sarah Kidwell" and to "my daughter Mary Thornbury's son William Kidwell."

One of the executors of Rachel Colclough's will was a Samuel Thornbury. Does anyone have a Samuel married to a Mary Kidwell or a Mary Colclough?

Thanks!
Juli

Hi Shelley!

It is so lovely to get a response to an enquiry about Thornbury! I know absolutely nothing other than my Great Grandmother Mary Ann is is listed on Census returns (England) as having been born in Kilkenny, Ireland. From the time of her marriage to John Plummer she lived in Englang until her death in 1913. Family hearsay has it that Mary Ann had a sister or brother who left on a ship for America. As most Iriosh records are not available, I am unable to get any further at all with this line of research so any help at all would be gratefully received and very much appreciated. I'm getting excited now!

Many many thanks,
Jacky :-)

Hello Jacky,

I have often found that stepping sideways in genealogy can prove fruitful. So I should be glad of MARY ANN`S details just in case.

I have so far been unable to find any THORNBURY folk on the 1901 and 1911 census for DUBLIN.
One researcher informed me that THORNBERRY were mainly QUAKERS.

Yes, it is quite an unusual name and sometimes spelt THORNBERRY.
JILL

I was hoping that somewhere, someone would have a Thornbury from that area and my Mary Ann would be discovered amongst their records. The information you have given sounds so promising as Thornbury does not seem to be a common name anywhere and especially Ireland. It has been passed down that Mary Ann married in Dublin after having met her husband at Dublin Zoo when he was stationed there with the army.

Unfortunately I cannot help you but if Mary Ann is one of your Thornbury's, I can provide details after her marriage.

Regards,
Jacky

Hello Jacky,

My JESSY MARIAN THORNBURY was baptised in CRUMLIN, DUBLIN in 1852. Daughter of RALPH & FRANCES (nee HAWKINS). Her siblings included GEORGE HENRY. HENRY, MARY ELIZABETH, RALPH JOSEPH, SUSANNA.
JESSIE states on the 1911 census that she was born in WEXFORD. I think the HAWKINS line were also in WEXFORD. Her first husband was RICHARD THOMAS FITZGERALD (son of THOMAS). Her second husband was RICHARD JOSEPH SUTTON (married 1883).

Anything here ring any bells?

REGARDS,
JILL
Hello Jacky,

I'm afraid I don't have any more details of MARY ANN'S marriage apart from the ref. no that I quoted.
I only jotted it down in case it may have been a sister of my JESSIE MARIAN. It's a shame there is no FREE BMD for Ireland! Maybe one day!

If you do pursue it.. I should be interested in her fathers name to see if I can tie her in anywhere in my line. as you said there cannot of been many THORNBURYS in DUBLIN at that time.

Kind regards,
JILL

Hi Jill,

I have just come on line after being without internet for a few days (don't want to do that again!). The marriage could very well be my Mary Ann as their first child was born in 1871 and it beleived they m,arried in Dublin. If you have the details that would be wonderful!

Many thanks,
Jacky

My Mother's family name is Thornbury and my great-grandparents, aunts and uncles are buried in the Dekalb County cemetary Whitehall (which I have visited many times as a child). My great Aunt, Pearl Odessa Thornbury spent a lot of time researching the Thornbury name and I have her research dating back to the 1700's. In addition, I am aware that she was involved with the Daughter's of the American Revolution and that the Thornbury family is from England.

I will gladly review my documentation to see if I see your family member is in my notes that my Aunt developed.

This is so interesting to me.

Daisy Thornbury, Pike County, Kentucky

I am looking for Daisy Thornbury. Her parents were Frank Plymale and Cenie ?? I have found a Thornburg with all the right names for brothers and sisters but not a Thornbury. She was my Grandmother. Any information would greatly be appreciated. This was in Pike County Ky. She married Roy Coleman and I believe she died in childbirth.

Diann

Correction on Daisy Thornbury's info

I made a mistake on the last message. Daisy Thorbury's father was Frank Thornbury and her mother was Cenie Plymale. I would like any information you could give me.

Diann Blair
