Thorne families from New Brunswick

I was born August 16,1964 in Hamilton Ontario. My birth name was Karen Beth Thorne. My mother came to Hamilton from New Brunswick when she was 5 months pregnant, after an affair, to hide her pregnancy bringing with her a 2 yr old daughter she had at the time. The information I have indicates she left behind a husband as well as at least 2-3 other children. Looking for any information on mother, or siblings, family history.

Hello Ed,

Thanks for your speedy reply.

Regretably, we can't help each other further, because my James Thorne was in England in late 1859, when he went to NZ and married in 1860. Then he went to NSW Australia and had lots of children and a further 2 wives, before dying in 1888 in NSW.

It was his death certificate that said he was born in Canada, abt 1835, and his father's name was Charles Thorne.

Sorry I can't help further
Julian

Hi Thelma. No, there's no need for you to go prodding others for additional information, but thanks for the offer. I was just curious to know that if the background on my maternal side (Barbara Ann Thorne) was being referenced to (indirectly) through that link I sent in my previous posting. Just to bring you up to date, I did have opportunity to speak with Barbara on the phone a few years ago and while we haven't done the DNA testing to officially confirm anything, all of the other pieces of information we shared strongly suggest that she is indeed my biological mother. Thanks for your assistance!

Hello again Elizabeth (Grace?). It's been a long time since our last dialogue and my phone conversations with Barbara. I've recently been trying to do more research on my family tree. I'm wondering if Barbara remembers what the last name was of my biological father? Would you be comfortable in asking her this or would she be troubled by this question? I'm certainly not wanting to cause her any grief so just let me know what you think. Thanks. :)

He married Sarah Jane Blackmore who was born at Nynehead, Wellington, Somerset, England on May 18, 1886. They were married on
May 18, 1910 at Nynehead Church.
Hello once again. I am not sure that we connected, way back in 2001. Robert Carter Thorn/e's father was William Thorn, Robert's oldest brother William Jr is my 3d great grandfather. We have a network of researchers that you can draw from & hook you up to R. C.'s descendants. He had a son Robert Pearl Thorne that stayed in Wellston. I just found Robt. P's son, Robt. C's grandson, Otis Thorne, killed in Columbus in 1932. Check in wit us when you get a chance.

I have found the death certificate for Otis O. Thorne who died April 1, 1932, as a Sgt. stationed at Fort Hayes in Columbus, Franklin Co, OH. His wife is listed as Katherine Thorne. Otis was a grandson of Robert Carter Thorn who was raised in Jackson Co, Ohio, moved to Sothern Iowa & wound up in Montague Co, TX. So Otis's father Robert Pearl Thorne, stayed in Jackson Co, Ohio. If anyone has any news or is researching this branch of my Thorn Family. Please contact me.

Thorne in Weston Zoyland, Somerset

I have a Rebecca Thorne in my tree (my GGGG Grandmother) born circa 1815 in Weston Zoyland, Somerset. I have been unable to find a baptism record for her but do know that her widowed mother was living with her in 1861. This 1861 census states that her mother is Elizabeth Thorne (widow), born circa 1791 in Stowey, Somerset. She is listed as a late Mason's wife in the census. Having worked my way back through earlier census I have found Elizabeth in 1841 living with husband George Thorne born circa 1781 in Somerset - he is listed as a Mason.

This is where I get stuck! Does anyone have any connection to the Thorne's in either Stowey or Weston Zoyland? Any info would be appreciated.

Nathan

I am a descendant of Richard Thorne, Born about 1820. He was married to Elizabeth Barrett and was one of the first settlers of Thornlea, Nfld. The Thorne history of Thornlea is fairly well documented but Richard's origins are not. There are Thornes in the nearby communities of New Harbour and Normans Cove but there is no documentation supporting residents of one community migrating to the other. There are some suspicions that he may have moved through Winterton and possibly born in Europe.

Any info would be appreciated.

I have been corresponding with a Thorne relative in the UK who is doing a great job of researching our line of Thornes. According to his findings, our Thornes were from Sherbourne. However, I do have a copy of a banknote from Sherborne Bank, Dorsetshire with no date on it.
