I thought I would add what little research of my own. This isn't my direct line and I never found the parents for Josiah. Much of this came from other researchers and has not been verified.

Need the surname and parents of Sarah (born 1 March 1765) the wife of Josiah Thornton (born 22 Aug. 1758). He was in Spartanburg District, So. Carolina until after 1820 when he moved to Lauderdale Co., Alabama, and then to Wayne Co., Tenn., where he died in 1846.

Thornton, Josiah 1 male older than 16 years old 2 males under 16 years old 6 females including heads of family (wife)

Wayne County Tennessee Cemetery and Death Records #154 Thornton Graves Somewhere between Oak Grove and Whitten's Crossroads is a small cemetery which according to Mrs. Virgie Whitten Rich was located on the side of the old road. It is possible that these graves are those of Josiah Thornton, 22 Aug., 1758--c. 1848, Rev. Soldier from South Carolina; and his wife Sarah. Her death is recorded on the 1850 Mortality Schedule, 1850 U.S. Census for Wayne County. Information by Edgar D. Byler, III and Nellie Berry.

William Thornton appeared in court in Wayne County, TN in January 1850 with a list of the prices that the inventory was sold for. William Thornton bought a good many things. Mordica Thornton bought a few as did William L. Fowler, Wallace H. Hays.

Widow, Sarah, received $75 as yearly support from Josiah's estate.
