I am trying to document James Oscar Thornton. As far as I can tell, the paper trail stops with his draft card in 1917, although I may have found him in the following three censuses in three different places. In 1920, James O. Thornton is in Humphreys County, Mississippi with wife Ardelia. In 1930, James O. Thornton is in Pickens, Alabama with younger wife Mary. In 1940, James O. Thornton is in Leflore County, Mississippi and widowed. That census gives his 1935 address as Memphis, Tennessee. The man in each of the three census records is the right age and is a timber man. I would love to have someone verify that these are all the James Oscar Thornton of Big Creek, Mississippi, who was married first to Ludie Benoist. I would also like to know where he is buried, since everyone online says that he died in Oxford, Mississippi, in 1951.
