I'm looking for Squire Thorp / Tharp b. abt 1801 who was living next to my John Smelser in Pettis Township, Platte County, MO during the 1840 Federal Census. Also next door was an Abner Waddell. Jacob Smelser and Squire Thorp were both named as early Justice of the Peace and/or Constables in Platte county. Jacob Smelser living later in the Parkville MO area ... north of Parkville if I have my information correct. I'd like to know where exactly this family of Squire Thorp came from. It is suggested that he is from the Madison County, KY line but I'm not sure of that and would like to confirm his origins in an effort to try and confirm my own. Any help appreciated.

I am also looking for a Thorpe family in Platte county, Mo. My great grandmother was Mary(Molly) Thorpe b. 1838 and married James M. Parker there in 1854. By the start of the civil war they were in Grayson county, Tx. They had 9 children. I am trying to find the names of her parents or siblings.
chapmanjs@suddenlink.net.

While my great-great grandfather may have had the same name in common as your great grandfather, I do not believe yours is the same George as mine.
Re: Timothy Thorpe, d. 1751, Southampton, VA, Mary, Olive, Reese

Following up on this, we record that after Rivers died in 1799 his 1st cousin Joseph Reese married Piety Vick (whose daughter was Nancy Reese). It was Joseph's and Piety's son William who was also murdered during the slave revolt.

I now think that Rivers and Joseph were actually double first cousins - both descended from John Thorpe and his wife Mary Matthews through their daughters, Mary & Olive; as well as grandparents Joseph and Mary Reese. This connects the Shadrack Vick & Nancy Reese branch of the VICKs to the THORPEs of VA - John was a son of Timothy.

Also in thinking about John Leonidas Vick's statement that Rivers' REESE family came from Ireland, I now suspect, since he was a methodist, that they were Scotch-Irish.

PS - btw, Margaret is still with us!
Just checking on some Thorpe info and noticed Margaret Nelson's posts on Genealogy.com. I am not sure if Margaret is still with us - Margaret, if you are email me.

She did a lot of reasearch on Vick family genealogy.

She may have even noted this possiblity: Mary Thorpe married John Reese and her sister Olive Thorpe married Edward Reese (around 1770?). John Reese's son, Rivers, married Piety Vick. After he died, Edward Reese's son, Joseph, married Piety. Piety and her son William, by Joseph, were murdered in the 1831 Nat Turner Slave Revolt.

(Piety's dau Nancy, from Rivers, married my 2g gf Arthur D. Vick, Nancy's 2nd cousin once)

My 3g uncle John Leonidas Vick's family history talks about Rivers and Piety.

looking for information on my g-grandparents. Their names were mispelled in the WI census of 1900. Willment is actually Wilmot B Thorpe and Saura is actually Laura Jane Norton. My grandmother is listed as Bera, but was actually Vernica (Vera). Am seeking info on both Wilmot and Laura Jane Norton's parents or family. His father was born in Pennsylvania and his mother in WI. Her father was born in VT and her mother in WI. ANY information would be appreciated.
