Mary lived until 1870 in Terra Haute Indiana, and was apparently killed by a hired hand. I have found no information about her parentage or siblings.

My ancestor was Cornelius Jewell born 1755-1770 at NY, NJ, or Pa. -- he died at NY City in May 1837. I have been trying to connect him with other Jewells so I have some information on NY, and NJ Jewells. Leander Jewell was listed in the NYC directories (if my memory is correct) for about 10 or 15 years spanning the late 1840s to the early 1860s and for at least two years his widow was listed...I think her name was Mary.
There was also an obit for Leander which I think was in the NY Herald or the Post--I only have the index. I do also remember a child of his listed in the NYC death register...I believe the child was buried in a Presbyterian Church yard. I'm not at home so I can't review my files. If you contact me directly at npmaxwell@aol.com I will get that information to you. This is my brother's email address so it might take me a little time to get back to you.
Jim M

I am sorry I was directing the questions more at Phillip than you on Louisa and Laurel. I was just contacting you to let you know I am one of Sarah Thornton's decendants through her son Thornton Pendergrass who married Anna Clampitt. Do you know much on Sarah Thornton like who her parents were? Until now I did not have an about date for her birth or where she was born. All I knew was that my James Spencer Pendergrass married her and they had children:

James Pendergrass born 1766
Spencer Pendergrass born 1770
Joel Pendergrass born 1773
Sarah Pendergrass born 1775

Also there is bit of a mix up from what I have seen on line as some say our Thorton Pendergrass's full name was Thomas Thornton Pendergrass while others have Thomas and Thorton as seperate sons? My Thornton did go by Thornton on the Smith County censuses he was born in 1768 in North Carolina and died on June 08, 1857 in Smith County, TN per info that I have. I really would like to know more about the women like Sarah Thornton in my lines as what info I have just covers the Pendergrass men not thier wives. Thank You.

Thornton Pendergrass did move to Smith County, TN and we think he died there. One of his sons Henry Pendergrass is my 3X Great Grandfather. Henry moved on to Allen County, KY as he shows on censuses there in 1870 and 1880. 1890 census was destroyed so I have not been able to find out if he was still living then? I need to ask a question here were our Pendergrass's in Laurel County? The reason I ask is in the book on Pendergrass's my Henry was said to have married a Louisa Bodkin born KY? Yet one of their children was an informant at his brothers death and he said thier mothers name was Eliza Watkins born TN. Now it is true that she did go by the name Louisa as you find her listed as this on the censuses from 1850 to 1880. I know that in early years Thornton Pendergrass lived in Cumberland County, KY so I am looking around these surrounding areas to see if I can find an Elizabeth or Eliza Watkins who marrid Henry Pendergrass? I cannot for the life of me find a marriage for Henry and Louisa (Eliza) anywhere though? They were both so young when they married and according to thier first child's birth they married in the early 1830s.

Rebecca,
Could you tell me more info on your Davis THORNTON
that you are looking for? I have a Davis THORNTON
bn in Surry Co., NC in middle 1700's and he appears
in a legal document with his father, William
THORNTON in 1820 after that there is no more mention
of his name. I do not know if he died, if he left
Surry Co., NC or if he ever married.

Do you know if your Davis THORNTON was alive
in 1850 and checked the state Census of that year
in the county where he lived in and see if it
has his name, his birth place and where his parents
were from. That is the year when they finally
started doing that.

Davis THORNTON is an unusual first name I have found
in my 25+ years of researching my Davis and his parents
and siblings.

Please tell me more about your THORNTON lines. Any
MORELAND family marry into the line,COLVARD,SHELLEY,
JIMMERSON or ARVIN,ATHAN,MORELAND,CHILDRESS families
married the siblings of Davis'.

Have you seen his name on a Federal Census where he
gives where he was

Searching for information on William "Shorty" Thorton

I am currently searching for information on William "Shorty" Thorton. I know little to no information but will list below the facts I have. This man is listed as my biological father on my original birth certificate but my mother later changed the father name on such certificate. I did not, until just recently, find out that this man was my biological father and I am eager to find out more information. I look very different from all of my family members so I know I must look alot like him. Also, my son is a spitting image of me. If you have any information, please contact me at kimberlygrewell@aol.com. I am eager to hear any information you can provide. Also, one person has stated that they believed he passed on. Although it would be sad, I still feel the need to know for sure. I am also wanting to know what he looked like and know any medical problems that run in the family. I want to stress that I expect nothing from anyone!!! My life is great except for the fact that I don't know anything about myself...who I look like.....where I get some of my habits....etc! Thanks ahead of time.

Facts:
*Was known to everyone as Shorty.
*Was a white male with dark features or hispanic.
*He is believed to be over 50 yrs of age.
*Had a sister that lived in Gillette, WY around 1977 or 1978.
*May have lived in or around Rapid City, SD or Gillette, WY in 1977 and or 1978....
*purchased a custom made yellow truck in 77 or 78.
*Lived with Connie Crawford in 1977 or 1978.

I know that there are little to no facts but this was all my mother could recall. Please contact me with any information. Thanks you so much!!!

Kimberly Grewell

I do know this Sarah had a son. He was given the name
Thorton Pendergrass. He was the eldest of six children.
All I know is he moved to Smith county Tenn. The next son
Joel Pendergrass was born in 1773 He was killed in a logging
mishap on a raft that broke up and drown. The next child
Sarah had was a girl and was given the name Sarah. I am
a direct decendent of Joel Pendergrass. I am also the direct
decendent of Philip Pendergrass of Ireland year 1610. Also
to all who may read this Pendergrass comes from Maurice
De Prendergrast a Flemish mercenary employed by the Normans.
