I just emailed you privately. I'll send you the invite to the family site after I receive your email in return. I am the administrator of the Threet/Threat family site. Some of John Joseph Threat and Mary Rachel Penninger's children spell the family name Threet, and some Threat....we spell it Threat for those that are John Erven Threat's family.

I am Cindy Threat Cooper, the Great Granddaughter of John Joseph(not Jesse) Threat b. 12 Dec 1864,Chesterfield Co., South Carolina d. 17 Feb 1936 Tokio, Hempstead County, Arkansas. John Joseph Threat married Mary Rachel Penninger on 2 Oct 1887 in Courthouse, Charleston County, South Carolina, the daughter of Jabob Postelle Penninger and Martha Cynthia Belk. Mary Rachel was b. 21 Mar 1867, North Carolina and d. 8 Aug 1943 in Tokio, Hempstead Co., Arkansas. I've been to the Threat Homestead and to their graves. They are buried in the Ozan Cemetery at Bingen, Arkansas. I have photos of the Homestead and history about it on the family site. You'll enjoy that I'm sure.

Their son and my grandfather, John Erven Threat, Sr., his wives, Alice Hatch and Nancy Belle Peeler(my grandmother) are all buried in Forrest City, Arkansas. I've also been to their graves in the Hughes Cemetery in Forrest City, Arkansas. I'm the oldest daughter of John E. Threat Sr. and Nancy Belle Peeler's son...John Erven Threat, Jr and Margaret Ann Homewood.

I know my father, Phillip Threat, and I both would love to see any information you have on John Joseph Threat b. 12/12/1864 in Chesterfield, South Carolina, especially information regarding his parents. We have found census records placing him possibly working as a farm hand in the late 1870s and early 1880s possibly leading to him meeting Mary Rachel Penninger. But if family stories hold any truth then both parents died during the Civil War and he went to live with his cousins the Hiltons. Any names or dates regarding this will open a new chapter for us. We have been stuck with these questions for well longer than I have been in the world. It would be nice for the start to the new year to present us with new questions instead of the questions that have plagued 2 generations for the better part of 35 years.

In the 1870 Lauderdale, AL census my huband's g-grandfather Pool and his two siblings were in the household of Shelby Threat. Do you know anything about the Threat-Pool connection? I've been working for several days trying to connect the two families but thus far have been unable to.

I've met your Uncle Jack on the Threat Homestead in Tokio, Arkansas. I have a lot of information on the family of John Joseph Threat b. 12 Dec 1864 in Chesterfield, South Carolina, m. 02 Oct 1887 in Courthouse, Charleston County, South Carolina to Mary Rachel Penninger b. 21 Mar 1867 in North Carolina. John Joseph Threat died 17 Feb. 1936 in Tokio, Hempstead Co., Arkansas. Mary Rachel Penninger Threat died 08 Aug 1943 in Tokio, Hempstead Co., Arkansas. They had 13 children. I have information on all 13 their spouses, children and some grandchildren of the 13.

I was also looking for Isham Threet born Jan 21, 1899.

I found the WWI draft registration in Saline Co., IL on ancestry. He was William Isham Thret. Also he was in the William Smith household in 1920 Saline Co., IL. He was listed as son in law even though both he and his bride were listed as single. The bride was Elma Smith born abt 1904.

I could not find him in 1930.

There are two family trees, one lists him marrying Elma Smith, the other lists an Isham Threet born Jan 21, 1898 as marrying Ella Wick born about 1907.

The Isham I'm looking, his father was William G Threat and Louisa Williams.

Sorry I can't help you. i don't know where you live but there are a lot of Threatts in the Kershaw,Lancaster,Jefferson,Pageland areas of S.C. and Union Co. N.C. Chesterfield County Liberary has a good bit of old census records.

I have the census record that shows he was the son of Jeremiah,mothers name not known. He was born in 1824.1860 census shows him married to a Hester(possibly Stacks) age 34,his age listed as 35(should be 36) Childern are Franklin 10,Gilbert 8, Thomas 6 Elizabeth 3 and M.A. 9months.
1870 census shows Easter as wife 35 Gilbert 18,Thomas 15, Betsy 9 Millissa 8, Frances 6 Mary & John 4
1880 census shows EW as wife 30,(this is my husband's grandmother,her name was Anna Adcock)E,J, 20 Frances 18, John & Mary 14,MJ daughter 10,Wm son 5,Columbus 2, Daughter 3omnths ( her name was Sara Ellen.1900 census shows he is 76.wife 53,married 23years. Henry W. 17 May C15 jery C11. He is buried @ Phildephia Baptist Church in NC,the church is off USHwy 601.Sign for church is right at state line, Hope this helps.

I need assistance on a poblem I am having. I found a WWI draft card for James Samuel Threat Born June 22 1894 and I can not make out the city of birth. I have done numerous searches on what I think it is, but nothing comes up.
Monoro, Monro, monroe, Monors, south carolina??? If any one has access to ancestry.com can they see if they can figure it out. I would greatly appreciate the help.

I'm pleased to meet you. Wow! My grandfather's mother was Hannah Threat, and his father was named James Threat. My grandfather (their son) Samuel Perris Threat, moved to McAlester after having lived in Tulsa. I remember hearing that we had some relatives that owned a hotel in North Tulsa in the area that was at that time, known as the Black Wall Street. They were burned out when the riots happened in 1921.

Here is a link to an article in the Black Indian Slave Narratives. This article was given by Jim Threat. This may have been your great great grandfather. It was my great grandfather. Let me know what you glean from it. I have a feeling that we are related cause this is definately in the "neighborhood" ;o)

My grand father had a brother named George Threat who also lived in McAlester. His children moved to the Chicago area.

My aunts and uncles moved to the Memphis, Kansas City, LA and San Francisco, and Tulsa areas, and I still have an aunt in McAlester.

Please tell me more about yourself and James Threat.

Help! Hit a brickwall - Jessup Threatt

He is listed as father on death certificate of my gg Betty (Elizabeth "Bettie/Betty" Threat Carelock d. 1933). Her death certificate also states she was born in NC. This has been a brickwall for me for years. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had an uncle by the name of Elmer Hilton.
My grandfather's name was Joe William as far as I am aware.
I checked with my mother and she said they called him Will, or William.

My ggGrandparents were also Asa Walters(son of Elijah) and Frankey Threatt married 17 Feb 1835 Union co, NC and both buried at Hester Cemetery Neshoba co, MS.
My gGrandmother was Eunice Walters Oliver.

Anyone have any information on a Jeremiah Threat m. to Ester and listed in the 1860 and 1870 Chesterfield Co., S. C. Census.

Also Jeremiah Threat is listed in the Columbia S C Archives of Confederate Payroll Lists as being in the Outfit of Co. A-H 1 Butlers SC Infantry with Start Rank/End Rank of P/P. Any information on this would be appreciated.

The name is John Joseph Threat born December 12, 1863 in Chesterfield Co., South Carolina. John Joseph married Mary Rachel Penninger on Oct. 2, 1887. John Joseph died Feb. 17, 1936 in Hemstead Co., Tokio, Arkansas. Mary was born March 21, 1867 in North Carolina, and died July 1944 in Tokio, Arkansas. Both John and Mary are buried in Nashville, Arkansas. John Joseph is my great grandfather, his son John Erven Threat, Sr. is my grandfather, John Sr.'s son John Erven Threat, Jr. is my father. I am trying to find information on the Threat Family. My father's name is Joe W Threat, Jr. My grandfather's name was J W Threat, my grandmother's name was Mildred Couley. They lived in Tokio Ark. My uncle Jack lives currently lives there. According to info I have found so far my great grandfather may have been John Joseph or John Jesse. My grandfather was an Elmer Hilton and I have been doing some research on him. He was from Tennesee and later on moved to Arizona. I am just curious, if this is the same Elmer Hilton whom you specify as your uncle on the website. Any info you have on him would be of great help ot me. My grandfather was married to a Hazel Carpenter in Tennesee and had a son Stevie and a daughter Brenda( who is my mother). John Joseph Threat

Am trying to find the parents of John Joseph Threat- I have a lead that I need help with, I found a John A. Threat in the 1860 chesterfield Co., South Carolina Census with a Harriet Threat as Wife; when I looked in the 1870 census I find a Harriet but no John A., I find no additional information about him other than maybe a Confederate Service Record in ther 1st Confederate Reg., I can not prove that it is him, the children are not all the same but she has a John, and a Joseph, John apears to be the right age for my Great-Grandfather. After the 1870 census I find no record of Harriet again. All of this seems in most ways to fit the family story of (MY) John to have been an orphan with his father having died in the war and his mother dying a short time after he was born ( in this case he would be at least 8).
If anyone has any information on the above I would love to hear about it.

I am the great grand son of John Joseph Threat born 12/ 12/ 1864 in South Carolina, who married Mary Rachel Penninger in Charleston, South Carolina before moving to Arkansas, where they both died in Minecreek, (or Toikio) Hempstead County.
My Grandfather was John Ervin Threat, and my father was James Joe Threat.

With a little more information I can help you a little, My father was James Joe threat, my grand father was John Ervin Threat, and my great grand parents were John Joseph Threat and Mary Rachel Penninger both of South Carolina.
John Joseph I have found nothing beyond him, family stories say that he was an orphan, raised by cousins named Hilton, but that is all Ii know.
I met your uncle Jack and his wife years back, while he lived on the Threat family farm, his father I thought was named Will.
