hallo Bill
I do have a fair amount of information, which I give below, some of the spelling is wrong as the writing on the Thunder part of the pedigree was difficult to read. The pedigree on the descendants of Frederick FitzGerald and Annie Thunder was given to me by Renaud du Mes de Paysac who is connected to her descendant, the descendants of Andrew Thunder was research by Desmond Seward a descendant of Andrew.
The first record of arms born by a Thunder is that of Francis thunder, merchant of Dublin in a funeral certificate of 1619. However the famiy held lands at Ballehy Co. dulbin from a much earlier dat. Ath the end of the 18th century they acquired Lagore in Co. Meath and about two thousand acres. Balahy being retained as a dower house. They served as deputy lieutenants for Co. Meath several times, but finally sold both Lagore and Ballahy in the 1940’s
The cadet branch of Thunder of Ballycanew stems from Andrew Thunder (1788-1847) a grandson of Michael Thunder of Ballahy, who purchased 1700 acres near Gorey in Co. Wexford in the 1820’s. Captain A.F Thunder was forced to sell the land in the 1920’s

Henry Thunder of Ballahy died 1720 married Mary Dodd, the daughter of Richard Dodd

Their son
Michael Thunder of Ballahy 1712-22/5/1780 married Ellen O Rorke

they had three sons
1.
Michael,
Hi. I'm a distant cousin of yours from Melbourne, Australia. I actually visited Lagore when I was in Ireland about 10 years ago. And I also visited the family vault in the church yard at Ratoath.
My GGGG grandfather was Michael Thunder (1712-1780) of Ballaly. I'm descended from his son Henry, whereas you're descended, I gather, from Michael's other son, Patrick, whom I'm told purchased Lagore in 1791.
Henry's son Patrick (1787-1871)was my GG grandfather, and Patrick's son Joseph (1837-1903), my great-grandfather, migrated to Australia in 1857.
Regards,
Carolyn Webb.
Melbourne, Australia.
Hi Bill.
I was trawling through the internet and noticed you're connected to the Thunder family through Henry Thunder, of Ballaly County Dublin, born 1682, and his son Michael born 1712.
However whereas you are descended from Michael's son Patrick (born 1760), I'm descended from this Michael's brother, Henry, whom I have as being born at least after 1744. This Henry's grandson was my great-grandfather Joseph Thunder, who migrated to Australia from Dublin in 1857.
Regards.
Carolyn Webb.
Melbourne, Australia.
Apologies for the long delay in replying, I have been having an operation in the meantime.
See if we have Thunders in common on the attached file of ancestors, My guess is that we have as Drogheda is in County Louth right on the border with County Meath where my mother's ancestors were from Bellewstown, Lagore and Ballayly on County Dublin.

Thunder from Ireland

My mother's name was Thunder from Ireland, she came from an old and numerous landed family in Counties Louth and Meath. There is a family coat of arms and one of the branches, male and female, are Counts and Countesses of the Holy Roman Empire since 1595. The name is thought to be an anglisization of the Viking Thor, which meant Thunder. I have living relatives of this name, any others on the internet?

How is your search going? The reason why I ask is that Black Thunder is my ggggggrandfather. This is so exciting for me. Do you have any information on Black Thunders wife? Or Pay-Pam-Way-Ways wife? And do you have any dates to go with these names? How about Mary I. Landry? I know that Mary was married to John B. Lenoir, Chief of the Little Shell Soldiers and Chief of the Little Shell Council. I also have Johns parents as Na-Wa-Se-Sa-Naup (father) and No-Wa-Za (mother). I also have their daughter Mary Lenoir Warren. But any information you have about this family will be treasured.
My name is Brenda an enrolled Turtle Mountain Indian. I presently live in Detroit Lakes, MN and work for IHS.
