My wife's grandfather was William Burletson (1870-1941), son of George Reed B (1838-1897), son of Bryan Burletson (1806-1840), master mariner of Bishopwearmouth by his wife Anne Reed. Bryan's father was William B (1785-1871), son of another William B who married Elizabeth Dorman in 1772. I have lots of info on the Burletsons and Reeds which I'm happy to share. How are you connected with them?<br>Hew Stevenson

Hi, It's actually a brooch, not a ring (I got it wrong) and belongs to a distant cousin in New Zealand who inherited it with other family things. We have no idea who Jane Tarring was or why he should have the brooch - it's a complete mystery but we assume she's a relation. Perhaps you can help us? Our family came from Co Durham around Sunderland. Other families we are connected to were called Burletson, Reed, Duncan, Laurie, Leighton, Branxton - don't know if that gives you any clues. Do tell us what you know of Jane Tarring (presumably Tarring was her married name). Best wishes, Hew
