The information I have is that Sarah Tidmore (1796-1854) married Solomon Looper/Leeper/Cooper in 1815 whose daugher Mary (1813-1891) married William Braswell whose son John Marion Braswell (1832-1912) married Almirinda Jackson.

I found information that Solomon and Sarah only had one son and that Solomon left everything in a will to wife Judith with no mention of Sarah. Are you able to shed any light on this. I'm just beginning my search so I may have the wrong couple. Thank you for your response.

I am trying to research my husband's family which is John Tidmore married to Nancy Brizel/Brassel. John's parents being Heinrich Dietmar and Dorothy Gowdelock. I would appreciate any information you would be willing to share or point me in the direction to clarify how the Braswell came into this line.
Please contact me about any info about Carr Elliott married to Manerva Tidmore, who both share a daughter named Martha Elliott and from Etowah, Alabama (1800's). I found many Tidmore family trees have this same information but only two of the trees are available for public viewing but I'm unsuccessful in contacting the owners.
I believe Carr is my G-G-Grandfather and the census records I searched lists Martha is the daughter of Manerva's sister Lucinda.
There is more confusing info that I have, but I need help sorting it out. It starts with who Carr is, where he came from, etc...I am desperately seeking this info.
Please reply or forward this message to someone who can help me if you are unable to.

Dain Elliott
The mystery of my Elliott ancestors within the Tidmore family of Cherokee, AL in the 1800's.

Since I've began searching for my Elliott ancestors eight months ago, I discovered death records, census documents, and hints from this website that links my ancestors with the Tidmore family. My searching took me directly to John and Nancy Tidmore but more importantly to their daughters Lucinda and Manerva,(also spelled Minerva and Manervy in records I've found). My mystery involves these daughters each being the parents of g-grandfather John E. Elliott and his sister Martha A. Elliott of whom I have never heard of. But I all records I find place Martha with either sister in different times while John has no involvment since being 5 years old. Does anyone have any info or old family hints or secrets to share to help me with my search.

Re: Hezekiah Columbus Tidmore

Hezekiah Columbus was born on May 11, 1886 in Casa, Perry County, Arkansas. He married Jennie Lee Curtis on April 17, 1930 in De Kalb, Red River County, Texas. He died in August of 1972 in Broken Bow, McCurtain County, Oklahoma. He is buried at the cemetary in Valliant, Oklahoma that is in front of the Weyehauser Plant. He is buried beside his wife Jennie Lee Curtis Tidmore.
I do know that he was also married to a Carmie Tolar on October 27, 1913 in Danville, Yell County, Arkansas. That marriage ended in divorce. But I don't know what year.
He was also married to a Lola Drinken. I don't know the dates of that but it was before Carmie and Jennie.
I hope that helps. And if you need any information of Hezekiah's family, please email me at jbrabbs@nctv.com
Julie

Re: Samuel Martin Tidmore

 Notes file for Dorothy:

Henry Tidmore's wife is thought to be Dorothy Goudelock by some reseachers.
" A CLOUD OF WITNESSES" by Herman Floyd Johnston, privatly published by his son, Jerry M. Johnston of Tuscaloosa, Ala. in 1973 shows her as only "Dorothy". The book uses research by J. W. Riddlesperger as a source for some of the early family members. J. W. shows Dorothy as the daughter of Adam and Hannah (Steen) Goudelock in another family history published in Texas.
A letter received from Kirby Watkins in 1992/3 shows that he thinks it is most probable that Dorothy was the daughter of Christopher and Susannah (Anhaus) Sease. This writer has no opinion as to which is really the parent of Dorothy Tidmore.(B.A.)

By an Act of the General Assembly passed on 3-16-1783, South Carolina issued an Indented Certificate for the sum of Four pounds, eighteen Shillings, six pence to Dorothy Tidmore to compensate the family for Provisions and supplies provided during the Revolutionary War. Payment was made on several dates between 1788 and the third day of March in 1790. A notation on the Certificate looks like and interest payment was made as late as March 11, 1793.

An email posting on Genforum on 12-10-1999 by Deon R. Smith ( deonrs@micron.net ) shows:
Heinrich Dietmar (Henry Tidmore) born about 1730 in or around Frankfort or Hamburg, Germany. Died about 1776 in Newberry Dist., S.C.. He married Dorothy Sease about 1759. Dorothy Sease, Born about 1745 in Switzerland; died 21 May 1814 in Newberry Dist., S.C. Death date from Will/probate recorded in Newberry Dist., S.C. 1814.

An additional posting by Deon on 5-18-2001 presents the family of Christopher Sease (Suss) (Seas) 1715/1785 with wife, Susannah Anhaus, -1790 with children, Mary Catherine 1740/1752, DOROTHY, 1745/1814, married to Henry Tidmore--1776. DOROTHY and HENRY's children listed in this post are:
1. Rosanna md. to Frederick Counts, 2. Susannah, married to Samuel G. Waites,3. Martha married to William Mills, 4. John, Sr., 1765/1843, 5. Adam, 1770/1808, and 6. Henry, Jr. 1772 married to Margaret Brazzell. He states in later communication that he thinks that one of the Daughters, perhaps Susannah Tidmore Waites descendants has Susannah's family Bible and that it states that her grandmother was a Sease..
(Comment by BA: I have some reservations as to the age stated in several places that DOROTHY SEASE was born c. 1745. In that there are several places that show John as being born as early as 1756. This would have made DOROTHY about 11 when he was born. I along with Deon have John's birth as 1765 and I don't have the daughters listed at all.)

Census for Dorothy Tidmore: 1800 Newberry dist., S.C.; Dorothy +45, 1 male 16-26 (Adam?),
1 male 26-45 (Henry?)

Children listed by Deon: Martha, born 1759, married William Mills, Henry, born 1761 in S.C. died 1834 in Blount Co., Ala. (I have pictures of stones of cast concrete in Nector Cemetery. They are impossible to read.BA) married Margaret unknown., John, and Adam born 1774 died 1808. Deon's info from: User home page of Ancestors of Mary Etta Pinkney Watkins on FTM by John Brazier Sellers....(Is Mary Etta Watkins a descendant of or related to Kirby Watkins of Texas???)

An answer to Deon's message posted by Patty Alexander (pattysc@webtv.net) shows Dorothy as the daughter of Adam and Hannah Steen Goudelock and married to Henry before 1754. She shows the children as Adam, John, Henry, Rosanna and Martha. Adam died at an early age. John (1756-1843, moved to Greene Co., Ala., Henry moved to Blount Co., Ala.

A Query posted as an answer to another email for Newberry, S.C. listed the children of Henry as: John, born c. 1756, S.C. died in 1843 Hale Co.(comment: Hale county was not formed until 1870, John's will was actually probated in Tuscaloosa Co..I have a copy of the will..BA). John Married Nancy Brazzell. Adam, born c. 1765, died in Newberry Co. in 1807, Henry, born c. 1770, died c. 1833 in Blount Co., Married Margaret Brazzell, Rosanne married Frederick Counts, Martha/Patsy married William Mills, Susan/Susanna married Samuel Waites. This posting by: Rhodene Frederick (rodene@nww.net)

John Sellers (976142.2570@compuserve.com) Rt. 3 Box 384, Gainesville, Tx. has a Home page that shows the family as Martha, 1759, Henry, 1761/1833, John, 1865/1843, Adam, 1774/1808.

GEDCOM from Norman Griffith on 08-15-2001 lists the children of Henry and Dorothy Goudelock Tidmore, born about 1738, died 1814 in Newberry dist., S.C. as 1. John Henry Tidmore, Sr. 1756/11-2-1843, buried in China Grove Cemetery (Comment by BA. See above, stone is located on farm of Alvin Tidmore, I have been to China Grove several time and he definitly is not there unless there is no marker for him) , married to Nancy B. Richardson, 2. Martha Patsy Tidmore , 1759, married William Mills, 3. Rozanna Tidmore, 1760, married to Frederick Counts, 4. Adam Tidmore, 1764/ Dec. 1807, 5. Henry Tidmore, Jr. 1771/1833 in Blount Co., Ala. married to Nancy Brazzel, 6. Susan Tidmore, married to Samuel Waites. All born in South Carolina. (I personally have done no real research in the early period, before 1800, and am only gathering what I can from other sources to try to make something real of the early days of Henry and Dorothy. I have seen nothing that nails down when the transition from Pennsylvania to South Carolina occurred. If land was granted in 1763, what were the qualifications to make this happen??? How long did you have to be in the state of S.C. to qualify for grant??{Comment by B. Arnold}) Norman gives reference to the fact that descendants can claim DAR membership through her service. DAR National Number 511748- Sybil Tally McCluskey Atkins Estate of Dorothy Tidmore: Newberry County, S.C. Box 57, page 138, 1814 Parole will: 21 May 1814..

Email from Norman Griffith on 2-22-03 lists additional info on Martha Patsy Tidmore: 17 March 1812, Martha bought 150 acres from the old home place, from her brother Henry, for one dollar. Henry stipulated that "in no way shall the land descend to William Mills" with Wayne Caddell as source.
Married William in 1794.
Rosanna Tidmore, B. about 1765, S.C., md. Frederick Counts abt. 1787. He was born abt. 1750, died abt. 1830. 19 Sept. 1814, Newberry Co., S.C., her estate was being sold. Frederick Counts was made the Administrator. He sold everything. (from W. Caddell file)
Susan/Susanna Tidmore, b. abt. 1768, Newberry Co., S.C., md. Samuel G. Waites abt. 1788, he born abt 1766.
Adam Tidmore, b. abt. 1774, S.C., died in either 1807/1808. W. Caddell states that in 1788 Adam was noted as helping his mother on the farm. Adam became sick in 1807 and died in 1808. There is no record of any marriage for Adam. On 1-4-1808, Newberry Co., S.C. issued an Administration Bond to John and Henry to settle the estate of Adam.

Email from Beverly Caddel Ferrell dated 2-22-03 states that "Kinfolks & Ancestors, Tibbs and Tidmore Families" lists the children of Henry and Dorothy as 2. John, b. 1757, md. Nancy Brazzel, 3. Martha, b. c. 1759, md. William Mills, 4. Henry, b. c. 1761, d. 1833/34, md. Margaret. 5. Adam, b. c. 1774, d. 1808, she shows Elizabeth Betsy Looper as Adam's wife ,but we know that this must be in error because John's son Adam B. is the husband of Elizabeth Looper.

Home Page for Millirons and Haynie family, ID 113211, maintained by Peggy Haynie of Snyder, Okla. lists Henry as born 1725, Frankfurt, Gerrmany, died before 1789 in Newberry Dist., SC,. He was a Revolutionary War Soldier. Source for arrival on Ship Osgood as Passenger and Immigration Lists index: A collection of 30,000 names by Rupp listing H. Dietmar, page 242, 480 passengers, from Rotterdam via Cowes on 9-29-1750. Henry got 100 acres on Thakety Creek ( a branch of the Broad River in Beckly Co., SC) in 1763. Apparently, he didn't get title. He got 100 acres on Canon Creek of Craven Co., SC (later Newberry Co.) in Dec. 1768. The "Memorial of Title" is made to Henry Tidmore and delivered to Henry Dietmar. ( from Kinfolk and Ancestors by Max Tabb) Peggy lists Dorothy as Goudelock/Sease, born abt. 1738 in Pennsylvania, md. abt. 1754 in Pickens Dist.,SC with children, John B., 1756, Pickens Dist., Martha, 1760, Pickens Dist., Henry, 1761, Newberry Dist., Adam, 1774, Pickens Dist., Rosanna ?. She names Mark Rothell of Collinsville, Ala. as one of her sources and states that all of her info is gleaned from the web and she can't guarantee the accuracy...

An email from Sybil T, Atkins (statkins@prodigy.net on 3-21-2000 states that Adam Goudelock's will was porobated 4-4-1798 in Union County, SC shows his heirs as sons Davis and William, daughters, Sarah, Sussannah, Ann Saffold, Elizabeth Johnston, Prudence Stockdon, Hannah Blackey and Grandaughter, Hannah Stockdon. Dorothy was not listed, however, she may have already received her share of the estate before Adam's death????

(A collection of various facts listed in various online sources and books and library and Archives research by Bill and Jackie Arnold)

NANCY BRAZZLE is NANCY BRASWELL married John TIDMORE, please read

I am a descedent of Valentine Braswell of Newberry SC and I have recently acquired the estate papers of who I feel is Valentine's brother William Braswell who died in Newberry SC 1816. In William's estate papers are the names of Henry and John Tidmore. The Nancy that married John is likely William's sister Nancy Braswell. There are MANY missing Braswell children for David Braswell (born 1742 NC died 1782 Newberry SC that married Nancy Rutherford in 1762 Edgecombe NC) Since William was born 1763 he would have been the oldest and he is the only known sibling at this time, but now it looks like I have found Nancy a sister to William and I believe my Valentine to be another sibling.

I have also read somewhere a Mary or Margaret Brazzle that married a Tidmore, is this true? ALSO the Tidmore's married into the Looper family of Pickens SC where the Looper family married several times over into my BRASWELL families of Pickens SC. PLEASE anyone who can tell me more on the Tidmores or related surnames I can share Braswell information back with you including these estate papers.

Thanks,
Kay Braswell Dawson
Wow, you mean the Adam I found in the documents today is the Adam Tidmore who is son to Nancy Brazzle and John Tidmore who then marries a LOOPER? I did tell you that Arhtur Braswell born 1810 married Rutha Looper of Pickens County SC didn't I?

There sure does seem to be a lot of circumstancial evidence placing Nancy Brazzle as indeed a Braswell, but I need to find more documentation as family members are calling for more proof.

Kay
It's John Tidmore/Nancy Brazzle and Henry Tidmore (Jr)/Margaret Brazzle.

I also found reference for an Adam Tidmore today in the SC documents books at my local history center.
Kay

This is what I am starting with:

Laura Ann Burnett (Me)
Frances Elaine TIDMORE (my mother)m. Alvie C. Burnett
Harbeth Wesley TIDMORE (my grandfather)m. Majorie Frances Payne
Pierceson TIDMORE (my great-grandfather)m. Avaline Hartley

That is far back as I have.

I was born Dec. 8, 1971 in Houston, Texas. My mother was born in Tuscaloosa, AL.. on Nov. 22, 1949. She died Oct. 3, 1979 when I was 7 years old from breast cancer and is buried at Goodhope Cemetery in Louisiana. My father is now buried next to her. I have one sister, Cheryl Denise, who is 18 months older. My granfather was born March 11, 1923. He was in World War II as a mechanic. He died in Galveston, TX. on April 15, 1986 and is buried in AL. next to his father. I can remember meeting "Mama Hartley" and her house being on a steep hill? If I remember correctly everyone else called my grandfather Harvey but she called him Harbeth. I remember Charles Griffin (maybe Griffith)?
ALL MY FAMILY OUT THERE PLEASE FEEL FREE TO FILL ME IN!!

I also show that John Tidmore and Nancy Braswell/Brazzell had a son Adam Tidmore, b. Nov. 1795, who married Elizabeth Rebecca Looper, b. 1801. They had a daugther Amanda Elizabeth Tidmore, b. 24 DEC 1826. She married Andrew Henderson Caddell (the 2nd), b. 16 JAN 1851. Linking up the Loopers, the Tidmores and the Caddells can be really confusing, with all the inter-family marriages and sons named for their male ancestors.

I also show John Tidmore's father to be Henry Tidmore. Henry Tidmore changed his name from Heinrich Dietmar when he came to America from Germany. I've found a copy of the passenger list with Henrich Dietmar listed on it. Henrich's wife is Dorothy Sease Goudelock, also from Germany.

I have found some clues (I don't want to call them evidence yet) of the Tidmores marrying in with the Loopers, at least twice over. I'm happy to share what I have. Susan Looper (b. 1782 in Ashley, Buncombe, NC, d, 19 NOV 1867 Etowah, AL) is one of my ancestors. She married a Green, a Tidmore and a Caddell, I believe in that order. I'm downline from Susan Looper and Andrew Henderson Caddell (b. 1777 in Orange Co., NC). They were married in Person Co., NC about 1800.

I was just reading through and thought I'd put my two cents in regarding Dorothy. I was told, though I don't remember by who. It might have been my great grandma, Jennie Lee (wife of Hezekiah). Anyway, she said that Dorothy was married before she married Heinrich. And that was a Sease. Her maiden name was Goudelock. But it may be wrong. But just thought I'd lend my information to the search.

I guess you could say that I'm a direct descendent of Heinrich. My great grandfather was Hezekiah Columbus.. his father was King David. I don't know the ones between King David and Heinrich.

Can anyone tell me how many wives and children Hezekiah had? I know that my grandmother, Emmaline, was his daughter by his wife Jennie Lee Curtis. But I was told he had two other wives. Can anyone verify that?
