I believe that Reuben H Tidwell is a half brother of Edward Tidwell. Son of Reuben Tidwell b. 1767, virginia. Died 1835, Tennessee. NO PROOF YET.

Edward married a Nancy brown b. 1800, North Carolina, d. 1858.

This could have been a sister to Louisa Brown born in 1815.
I have only seen the name REUBEN TIDWELL in that Family Tree.

William Tidwell Family Bible

I have recently been able to scan and take notes from pages of the family bible purchased by William Tidwell in 1817, and used to record information some of his family, as well as his wife's (Mary Magdalene McMurtrey). I believe he lived in what became Madison County Missouri at the time.

The bible is somewhat worn, and unfortunately, some of the pages are ripped and torn. It was printed in 1801. Besides Tidwell and McMurtrey entries, there are also entries for Brown, Williams and Tucker families. At this point, I don't have any connection between these families and the Tidwell/McMurtrey families. There is an entry that is very difficult to read, but appears to say Henry? purchased this bible. I don't know if bibles were resold. At any rate, following is the information recorded. If you would like copies of the scanned pages, please let me know. sharylcollin@msn.com

Here are my notes:
Tidwell – 1
Last page of the Old Testament
“Edmund Tidwell died on Friday Evening at 8 oclock April 7th 1854.”

Tidwell – 2
Title page for the New Testament. Printed for Mathew Carey, No. 118 Market Street, Philadelphia on October 20th, 1801. No notes are recorded on this page

Tidwell – 3
Family Record Marriages
Left column
“William Tidwell and Delila McMurtrey was married December the 14th day 1819”
“Garrett Tidwell and Leah Myers was married the 11th of November 1829”
“Garrett Tidwell Jr. and N. G. Sloan married September 17, 1850”
Right column
A large part of the page is torn from the top of the right column.
From the bottom of the page:
“M. B. Venable (torn) Mary A Tidwell (torn) married September (torn)”
“A William A. V(torn) Born July 19, 18?2

Tidwell – 4
Family Record
Left column
This is the opposite side of Tidwell – 3, and thus, a large portion of the left column is missing.
From the bottom of the page:
“(Torn) Tidwell Died (torn) 18th 1846”
“(Torn)beth Tidwell Died on Wednesday at 1 oclock (torn) evenin June 7?, 1848”
Right column
“William Tidwell was born the 21 Day of December 1798”
“Cinthia? Tidwell was born the 26 Day of December 1800”
“Garret Tidwell was born the 27 Day of April 1805”
“Anna Tidwell was born the 22 Day of November 1806”
“Matilda Tidwell was born the 28 Day of July 1808”

Tidwell – 5
Family Record Births
“Ann Brown was born the 1st? Day of September 1782”
“Evan Brown was Born April the 18 Day 1784”
“John Brown was Born the” (incomplete)
“Hannah Brown was Born the 8 of August 1789”
Same page, different writing:
“Garrett Tidwell Jr. was Born November 28 1829?” (Date may be 1820 or 1829 – the last digit is smeared)
“Thomas Brown was Born the 23 of February 1794”
“?ami Brown was Born the” (incomplete)
“James D Brown was Born January 10th 1897” (Note, year probably should be 1797, but they wrote 1897)
Same page, different writing:
“Aliazar Smith was born March” (not readable)

Tidwell – 6
Family Record Miscellaneous Memoranda
“Nancy Williams was born the 25 of December 1792”
“Polly (or Dolly) Williams was born the 15 of February 1788”
“Rachel Williams was born the 15 of March 1795”
“Henry ? bought this bible in ? County (torn/unreadable)”
Second column
“Henry Tucker was born January the 8 1790”
“Ruann Tucker was born April the 10 day 1790” (Must have been Ruann Williams at birth.)
“Henry Tucker and Ruann Williams was married September the 17, 1808”
“Nancy Luizea Tucker was born November the 19 Day 1809”
“Jimmy Tucker was born April the 2 day 1812”
“Hesterann Tucker was born June the 3? Day 1814”
“John Wesley Tucker was born the 5 Day of July 1818”

Tidwell – 7
“Mary Magdalene Tidwell died May 24 at quarter past 4 in the morning 1864”

Tidwell – 8
Last page of New Testament
“Garrett Tidwell Jr was born April 17th 1825”
“William Tidwell” (Signature?)

Tidwell – 9
Family Record Marriages Left Column
“William Tidwell and Mary Magdelene McMurtrey was Married December the 14th Day 1819”
“Edmun M Tidwell was Born the 1st Day of October 1820”
“William A Tidwell was born May 10th Day 1822”
Family Record Births Right Column
“William Tidwell waz Born the 21st of December 1798”
“Mary Magdelene McMurtrey was Born the 2nd of September 1801”
“John McMurtrey was Born the 16th Day of April 1819”
“Edmund M Tidwell was born the 1st Day of October 1820” (repeats misspelled entry from left column)
I am searching for info on William J Tidwell, DOB 16 Feb 1818, South Carolina. Chester County or city of Chester, I'm not sure. Died in Jackson County Florida Nov 1900 and is buried at a Confederate burial site. He is listed with three marriages, Ann Filan in 1835, Amanda Bolton in 1856, and Sarah Anderson in 1859. I have all of his descendent info, but nothing on his parents or siblings, area they were from, etc. If anyone has this info or other information relevant to this search, please contact me. We currently live in SC and would like to visit the area our Tidwell line came from. Thanks

Hi All,
I'm looking for father/mother of my grandfather, Beverly Clinton Tidwell. He was known as Clint, also used B. C. His date of birth was October 8, 1888, and died May 31, 1955. He lived in Hueytown, AL. He was married to Flora Carter. I have an old family photo that has on back Zola, Great Grandmother Tidwell, Martha, Sarah Elizabeth McCollough Tidwell, Clint, Kess?, Ella, Father Tidwell, & Zada. I know that Ella lived into her 90's, but not sure if she was ever married. (she was just Aunt Ella to me as a child). I've tried searching for the above but having no luck. Thanks for any info you can share.
Beverly Norman

Mary E. Tidwell m. David Harcrow, 1866, in Calhoun Co., AR

I’m seeking information on the Mary E. Tidwell, 24, who married David Harcrow, 60, in Calhoun Co., AR, on 9 Dec 1866. (This David Harcrow is probably the same as the David Harcrow born ca 1806 in Elbert Co., GA and married 1st to Joice/Joicy Powell.)

Believe David died before 1870 census, as Mary Harcrow, 27, is found in Fayette Township, Calhoun Co., with sons, James -9 (probably son from 1st marriage) and William-3 (assumed son of David).

I would like to know who Mary’s 1st husband was (if there was one); what happened to her children; and who her parents were also.

I am not related to these folks, but I’m trying to trace the Mary Elizabeth Harcrow that married my 3rd great-grandfather, Hartwell M. Lucas on 30 Nov 1872 in Calhoun Co., AR, as his 2nd wife (I am descended from his 1st wife, Josephine Russell).

She was listed as “Elizabeth Harcrow, daughter of Harris Harcrow” in the H.M. Lucas profile in the Goodspeed’s Biographical Histories of Southern Arkansas, published ca 1890. I have found no mention of a “Harris” Harcrow in the census records or in family trees on the Internet. It’s possible that this information was wrong and Mary E. Harcrow was the “widow Harcrow.”

Thanks to anyone who can assist me with this mystery.

Vickie Rushton Bickle
Hello, I am looking for information on my Grandfather, Dewey Tidwell. His family would probably know nothing of mine. My Grandmother was Jesse Noreen Hillard (Died 1974ish) Dewey and Noreen had a brief relationship around 1948. I believe I have found his burial site below as the Dewey below, would have been about the age for the kind of brief relationship that was had. I am not trying to speak ill of anyone, I just don't know what the most politically correct terms to use.

If anyone can help, please reply. Although probably in Illinois, he is a different Absalom from the son of Peter who died in Nauvoo.

If you have knowledge on these ancestors, please Email <KeithHelen@AOL.com> Thank You

I'm looking for a photo of Isiah Pinckney Tidwell who married Nancy Garman and then Margaret Rivers, fought in the Civil War in the 29th Alabama Infantry, died in June, 1895, and is buried in the Pleasant Hill cemetery in Houston, Alabama. I understand from a cousin that someone out here on the internet has a photo, as far as I know, the only photo in existance of Mr. Tidwell. He is my Great-great-great-grandather. Please e-mail me if you have this photo. Thanks for your help. Libby

Some say his father was Riley Tidwell, others say Reuben Tidwell. I not been able to find documentation proving either one. I would greatly appreciate any info you might have on this line.

Sincerely,

Karen Mann

Hello.

I am searching for the family of Elizabeth "Lizzie" Tidwell born in Union parish, Louisiana (Feb 22, 1882 - October 1, 1964). She was married to James Benjamin Henry (Oct. 27, 1882 - April 6, 1951) also of Union Parish, Louisiana. They had 6 children: Byron, Hamp, Margaret, Tina "Cis", Jasper Jack and Ruby.

"Ben" and "Lizzie" are buried in the Mars Hill Cemetery in Union Parish, LA near Downsville. There are plenty of Henrys buried there and also Lizzie's sister Mary "Mollie" Tidwell, who married Ben's 'half-uncle', George G. Henry.

In the Wilhite cemetery in Wilhite, Union Parish, Louisiana there are two maiden ladies that might also be sisters to Mollie and Lizzie: Ittie Tidwell (1887-1952) and Ruth Tidwell (1890 - 1958).

I'd appreciate any information on these Tidwells of Union Parish, Louisiana.

Benton and Nancy Parlee Higgs Tidwell

I have been searching and searching where this couple is buried. I do know that in the 1900 Census they were living in Paris, Lamar, Texas. Benton died in 1906, place unknown, and Nancy died in 1923 in Spur, Texas; burial unknown. In the 1910 Census cannot find Nancy in Texas anywhere. In the 1920 Census she was living with Thomas Almond, her son in Spur, Dickens, Tennessee. I found an obituary for her but it only tells abour her passing there in Spur.

Now, I have found a listing in the Arkansas Confederate Pension Applications from Cahoun, Dallas, Ouachita and Union Counties; Page 14:
Tidwill, Benton; widow: Nancy; Co. C, 34 Texas Dismtd. Cav.; she applied: 1911.

I am now trying to find out if Benton and Nancy moved to Arkansas sometime after the 1900 census and before he died, since she applied for her widows pension in 1911 in Arkansas. I do not know how to find out. I am hoping someone out there can help me find this information, or can at least get me started in the right direction. thanks for any help you can give me.
Tidwell-Pioneers of the First District of Williamson County, TN Reunion

Mark Your Calendars

Join descendants of the Pioneers of the First District of Williamson County, TN on August 26, 2006 for the long-awaited, first-ever reunion and discover new relatives and explore where we each fit into the big family. The reunion is being hosted by Heycuz, a genealogy online newsgroup whose members are all related on some level, most of whom are descendants of the pioneers of the First District. The original pioneer families of the First District of Williamson County include: Sullivan, Green, Stinson, Barnhill, Bradford, Beard, Walker, White, Oliphant, Carter, Duncan, Bryant, Overbey, Buttrey, Daugherty, Lampley, Jones, King, Givens, Pewit, Smith, Harrison, Hughes, Mangrum, Hall, Lankford, and Tidwell--to name a few. Originally, some of the First District was a part of Dickson and Hickman Counties, but when the Dickson, Hickman, and Williamson county lines were redrawn they all ended up in the First District of Williamson County. Contact me for more info.
