I am looking for information on John Tiede (b) April 04, 1839 in Hamburgh, Germany (d) July 01, 1916 (m) Emma Mary Engel-Hubert March 16, 1864 in Fairfax, Benton County, IA. Moved his family to Christian County, MO in the mid 1880's.

He was born Johann Christian Nicolaus Tiede and his parents were Martin Friedrich Tiede and Dorothea Sophia Henriette Schildt. They both died in Germany leaving John an orphan at a young age. He became a cabin boy and later a sailor who made many ports to Great Britain and the continent of Europe and to New York. On one of his trips to New York he left his ship and went to Iowa. We think that John immigrated abt. 1856.
