"Maurice Tierney Sr., regulator of national advertising for the Chicago Tribune and an employee of the newspaper for more than 50 years, died yesterday after a prolonged illness in his home at 1672 Edgewater Ave. He was 72.
A native of Quebec, Canada, Mr. Tierney came to the United States with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Tierney, when he was 6 years old. He started to work for the Tribune Aug 7, 1859 as a clerk in the auditing department. After five years he transferred to the advertising department. He was named regulator of national advertising 25 years ago.
Services will be held at 9:30am Tuesday from the chapel at 5501 N. Ashland Ave to St. Gregory's church. Burial will be in All Saints' cemetery.
Mr. Tierney leaves his widow, Sybil, and a son, Maurice Jr, a solicitor of classified advertising for the Tribune."
