The 2 Thomas O'Mearas who married Tierney women

The 2 Thomas O'Mearas who both married Tierney women.

Both of these Thomas O'Mearas were born in Ireland and both about the same time. The one who married Ellen Tierney in 1825 in Canada, and covered in detail above, was
born in county Tipperary, Parish Kilbarron about 1797 and died in Nepean, Ontario in 1871. He was a son of Thomas O'Meara and Mary Grady.

The other Thomas O'Meara was also born in Ireland about 1800. He married Elizabeth Tierney IN IRELAND about 1822 (this date is a guess and estimated from the birthyear
of their first child who was born in Ireland in 1823). They had 14 children, surnamed O'Meara, the first 2 BORN IN IRELAND (William abt 1823 and John abt 1824), the next 11 in Carleton county and the last child was born in Iowa, the family having moved to Iowa in 1852. The other 12 children, in order of birth, were: Mary Ellen, Elizabeth, Thomas, Margaret, Catharine, Ellen, Patrick, Daniel, Jane, James, Annie, and Denis (this latter child being the only one born in Iowa). This Thomas O'Meara died in the 1870's
in Clinton county, Iowa, USA. His wife Elizabeth Tierney O'Meara died in Iowa sometime in the 1850's.

It is unknown how or if these two families are related. No one has been able to find any proof that would confirm a blodd relationship.

Happy New Year to everone. I am looking for information on my paternal great grandparents Matthew Tierney and Anne Mahoney. As far as I know they had three children Michael, Matthew(my grandfather) and Marie (Mamie). Matthew came to the US from Ireland around 1880. I don't know where he entered so I'm having a hard time tracing him back to Ireland. Anne, I think, died around 1908 if the 1910 census I found is the right Matthew Tierney. I can't seem to find Matthew and Anne and at least two children, Michael and Matthew, in the 1900 census. Any ideas would be of great help.

I believe I have long lost family. I had a grandfather named John Michael Tierney who was married to an Ann. They had two children and divorced years ago. One of the children was my father who was born in 1925. I was told that after John and Ann were divorced, John remarried and had more children. They were divorced when my Father was about 4 yrs old. My Father never knew him. (John M. Tierney)I think John was originally from NJ.(Irvington?)I would think that John Michael Tierney would be deceased by now, but he may have some family left behind. Thank you.

I have an original studio photograph of “William Davitt Tierney – age 5 months”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in about 1910, in Everett (Snohomish Co.) WA.

I found him in 1910 and 1920 censuses for Snohomish Co., WA, age 11 in 1920 and 21 in 1930, as son of William H. and Marion Tierney. Father William H. was a teacher.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to William Davitt Tierney.

All you tierneys out there are you aware that the Tierney's are meeting in a Clan gathering in Ballintubber Co. Mayo Ireland on July 27th to July 29th this year. Ballintubber is the original seat of the Tierney Family when they were sub kings of Ireland. The name of TIERNEY is one of two names which were the FIRST names recorded in Europe. It is a celtic name meaning Nobleman or king. Have you seen their coat of arms?
If you want to know more about your origins contact me and I can take your enquiries to Ireland when I meet the clan chief. My website is the Tierneys of London in My Family .com Have a look there may be a connection.

Peter Tierney/Florence Cuttle: married 5 June 1901

I'm seeking more information on Peter Tierney, born 23 January 1880. His family line has become a bit more difficult to locate due to the lack of available family records. My husband and our son seem to be the only Tierney's left in their line and none of the generations before them ever bothered to leave any records. I do know that Peter and his wife, Florence had 4 children: Eileen (Tierney) Sullivan, born 20 July 1903, James Tierney (my husband's grandfather), born 12 November 1905, Florence Tierney, born 1909 (found only on the 1910 census...may have died in childhood prior to 1920), and Jane Tierney, born 1919. Jane never married or had children.

I may have found Peter's parents, but I'm unsure. I believe his parents were: Patrick (born abt. 1849, New York) and Ellen Tierney (born abt. 1855, Chicago, Ill.).

I also know that Peter's daughter, Eileen (Tierney) Sullivan married Edwin Sullivan and bore a daughter, Cleta Jane (Sullivan) Miller, born 2 July 1928, Chicago, Ill. Eileen and Cleta died in San Diego, CA.

If any of this information looks familiar, please contact me at pwmovies@yahoo.com.

I am searching for my great grandmother's family's Irish home. She is Johanna Tierney, born abt 1857 in Ireland - daughter of Patrick Hanlon. She married James Hanlon on January 8, 1877 in Manchester, England. His father was Thomas Hanlon, a laborer. They emigrated to the United States on June 18, 1883 with their three children, Thomas, William and Margaret. They settled in Troy, NY where my grandmother, Catherine Frances Hanlon was born. I'm searching for Johanna's mother's name as well as where in Ireland they were from. I believe she had a brother, James, who emigrated to the US prior to 1872.

I have a copy of letter dated 1909 from a John A. Murray, Deputy Chief of Police, Providence. R.I. whose mother was Mary Tierney Murray. He sent the letter to my Great Aunt trying to connect his mother with my GGGrandfather John Tierney. I don't know if they ever found out if they were related tho. My GGGrandfather came from County Galway Ireland around April 16, 1847. He went to MA then on to MI to work in the mines
This John Murray said his mothers parents were Michael and Margaret Colahan Tierney. His mother was Mary and her siblings were John (my GGGrandfather ?), Tom, Ann, (Nancy) Bridget, Margret. Bridget married a man named Claffe and probably went to Australia from Ireland according to the letter but the others went to Rhode Island except John.
Don't know if this would help anyone but I thought I'd send the info along.
Sue

TIERNEY/CUTTLE, early 1900s

I am researching my husband's family, since his paternal family was not close and kept no records to pass down. I am seeking additional information about the Tierney family line, starting from Peter Tierney, born about 1883 in Chicago, Illinois. He married Florence Cuttle around the turn of the 20th century in Chicago. They had at least 4 children, one dying in childhood. My husband's direct relation is their sole son, James Peter Tierney, born November 12, 1905, Chicago, ILL. and died September 1967, Hudson Lake, IN.

I have located Peter and Florence's eldest daughter, Eileen (Tierney) Sullivan and her daughter, Cleta (Sullivan) Miller. Both are deceased. The younger Florence died between 1910 and 1920. The youngest child, Jane, was born around 1917.

All of them originated in Chicago, Illinois. If you recognize this information and can provide more insight, please let me know. You can email me at pwmovies@yahoo.com.

Thanks!

Margaret Tierney m. John Phelan (1849-1908) Ireland--N.Y.

searching for information on Margaret Tierney who married John Phelan(1849-1908). They were both born in Ireland but immigrated to New York before 1884 when my Ggrandfather John Aloysius Phelan was born (1884-1956). John married Laura Sophia Frost(1888-1962) and had 11 children. It is also likely that he had some children outside of wedlock. It seems like some of the names may follow an Irish naming pattern and may hold clues to other past relatives. I will list them in order of birth: William, John (Jack), Margaret Elizabeth(Daisy), Beatrice (BEa), Lauretta Ruth, Dorothy Teresa, Richard Ulick, Daniel Driscoll, Edward Walter, Charles Raymond, and Gerard.

I am trying to find out about my fathers family and info is slim.
Luella Rose Tierney (dob 09/12/1887) married George Overton Unruh (dob 08/30/1887) on 12/20/1917, place unknown.
Luella graduated from New Hampton High School, Chickasaw County Iowa, in 1905. Two siblings, Charles M and Florence graduated from the same school in 1901 and 1906, respectively. One of her sisters (Florence or another?) was, at one time, head of the music dept at University of Nebraska, per my father.
Luella graduated from Grinnell College (no date). George attended Grinnell and U of Nebraska. His highest educational degree was an MA.
My father thinks Luella was born in Ireland. No other info.
Geroge and Luella had 4 children.
Luella died 06/02/0944. George died 03/12/1966. Both died in Mondamin Iowa.
My father tells me his gfather John William (Johann Wilhelm von Unruh, who he is named after) came from Baden-Baden and that the last name carried a "von" in front of it at time of immigration. My father does not know when and doesn't remember other family names.
Any advice as to where I can gather more info would be most appreciated. I'm at a dead end already.
Tamara
