Well, guess I had a senior moment.......
My info. has Margaret born Nov 1828. Based on 1900 Itawamba, MS. U.S. census. I see other people have her in 1828 or 1835. Hope I have right Margaret. There's a Margaret Hodges in the 1850 census also. seems to fit.
Margaret Tiffin born about 1897 in Jarrow UK

I am seeking information about Margaret Tiffin who was born about 1897 in Jarrow, north east England. Her father was Joseph Henry Tiffin, a crane driver.

In 1923 Margaret married Joseph Alderton from Sacriston in County Durham. The marriage took place at Harton Parish church in South Shields. Margaret was 26 at that time and Joseph was 25.

Joseph was my grandfather's older brother.

Margaret and Joseph later had two children, Jean H Alderton born in 1924 and Joseph D Alderton born 1926. I believe that young Joseph's middle name may have been Derek. Young Joseph's birth was registered in Chester Le Street so it is highly likely that the family was living in the Durham area about that time.

In 1928 Joseph, Margaret and the two children emigrated to Australia where they settled in Perth. Joseph senior served in the Australian army during the second world war and his service records show Margaret listed as his next of kin during that period.

I'm not sure exactly when but Margaret and Joseph divorced. Joseph married again and in 1952 he had another son, Graham. Joe died in the Korean war shortly afterwards.

As far as Margaret and the two children are concerned I have been unable to find out what happened to them after the divorce. If the children are still alive they will both be in their early to mid eighties now.

Joseph's youngest son Graham knows very little about his father and I know that he would love to make contact with his half brother and sister if that is possible. My hope is that Margaret or her children may have kept in touch with her side of the family or hopefully someone out there may have some relevant information or knowledge.

I would be pleased to hear from anyone who thinks they can help.

We have another cousin that is working on publishing a book on the Tiffin Family in America. The more we dig, the more family we discover.
I don't think I have your info(parents, marriage, kids, etc)
Arlander is my granddad's brother. You have close cousins in CA.
The 2009 Tiffin Family Reunion will be in Plainview, TX due to poor health of several elder Tiffins that live around Plainview. Probably held in June. Hope you can come.

Floyd Tiffin, Jr (Sonny)
floydtiffin@suddenlink.net
Teresa,
Send me your direct e-mail address, if you would...I just e-mailed Sonny to make sure his email address is still good and should hear back from him, I hope today. He should have the reunion information. There should be several people out in west Texas who should have some pictures of some of the folks you are interested in. I can send you a few older ones, they may be so far back though.

The reunion should be on for this summer though. Hope you two get to come! If I have your line right, you should be a closer cousin to Sonny (Floyd) than I am and he is my 4th. cousin.

There are people from several branches of the family that come to the reunion. Those coming from the lines of the three brothers that came to Alabama from TN and Ohio in the 1820s all knew each other back before folks started to move west to Arkansas, Oklahoma and west Texas and other points both north and to the west of there like California.

The reunion is always fun, its a good bunch of people and several of us will bring family history information and a there should be a bunch of pictures of some of the older ones. So its interesting and fun to meet cousins and get together for fun and talk old family history.

Don

Re: Susan Tiffin, b. VA

There were two or maybe more sets of Tiffin's that ened up in Arkansas. One set is from Henry Tiffin II
line that went from Virginia to Ohio to Alabama to
Arkansas (Some to Oklahoma) to Texas and NM. The other set, seems not directly related, or I can't find how they were related: ended up around Little Rock: James Madison Tiffin's line. If you follow them back,
they came from Virginia. That line is on RootsWeb
World Connect. Can't connect that line to the Virginia-Ohio Tiffin line yet, but they may connect to Henry Tiffin II or other Tiffin connection. Some of the Tiffins in Ont. Canada came directly from England. Most of the Tiffin- Tiffen folks came from northwest England, Cumberland, but some came from other parts of England or may have come from other English parts of the world. Good luck!

Don Tiffin
The Colony, Texas

I looked through my database of Tiffin relatives (3,000+
) and can find 'no' Susan born around the late 1700 in VA.
Would you have any info on her children or any other relatives?
We know the Tiffin family was in and around VA back in those days and there were a good number of them that married and later moved. Some South toward AL, FL & MS and some moved up North toward Canada.
My branch moved up to Ohio where my Edward Tifin was named 1st governor of Ohio. Family moved down through AL then on to OK & TX.
I'll be glad to help if I can.

Floyd

I have a Margaret Tiffin that married James Alexander Hodges. I have her born in AL and they had 11 children. I believe the family moved around a little from AL to MS. Tiffins were in both AL & Miss during this time. Tiffins still live in both states. Don't have anything about her being Indian.
Are you related?

Let me hear from you.

Floyd Tiffin, Jr

Joe,
Just a note from Texas. I am descended from Henry Tiffin and Mary Parker from around Cumbria in England. they migrated to America around 1783. Moving from New York, Virginia across to Ohio then down through Alabama, spreading throughout Oklahoma, Texas, Mississippi, Florida, Arkansas and on to California.
I was wondering about our connection. How closely related are our kinfolks there in California?
Seems the Tiffins came to America in different groups and different times but we are all related back through England.
Do you have any info. on the Tiffins back in England?
I can't seem to gather any proof of Henry Tiffin's parents in England. Seems I've hit a brick wall. Can you help?

There will be a big Tiffin Family Reunion here in Amarillo, Texas next June 2008. Get me your snail mail address and I'll get you added to the master mailing list for invitations and newsletters.

Floyd Tiffin, Jr
Amarillo, TX

Hello Floyd,
So nice to hear from you. I know how those computer crashes are. It is really a pain when that happens. Here is my connection to Mary Ann. She married William Marion Maloy and they had William Egbert Maloy (my grandfather). He married Emma Dale Arthur and they had William Arthur Maloy (my dad). William was about 40 years senior to my mother, Carolyn McEnerny. Would you have any futher info on Ann's ancestry? Her parents? Also, I have Henry Tiffin m. Mary Parker, do you have any dates on them? I have also been searching for Emma Arthur. I haven't been able to trace her to her place of birth and family. Any suggestions?
I would love to come to the family reunion and will come if I can. Stay in touch Anne Marie
Re: Tiffin Family History

Hello Joe,

Joe our family came from around Workington and not sure
before that. There are Tiffins all over Cumberland. My 4th great grand parents, Henry Tiffin who married Mary Parker, lived around Workington and went to church at St. Michael's in Workington. There is a Tiffin Street still in Workington.
They and their children left the Workington area for America in the summer of 1783. They arrived in NY, settled in Charles Town, Virginia (West Virginia now). They went out to Ohio in 1797 and their son Edward Tiffin was the first gov. of the the new state of Ohio in 1803. My line comes from Edward's brother, Henry Tiffin II. in the late 1820's three Tiffin brothers, my ggg grandfather, Henry Tiffin II had moved to Washington County, TN. His son Clairborn and two other of his brothers left for Alabama,
where they knew some family members of Clairborn's wife Mary Kincheloe. My grandfather, James Monroe Tiffin, Clairborn's grandson, left Alabama sometime between 1880 and 1883 for northwest Arkansas and started farming in Fine Springs, Arkansas, just north of Alma, Arkansas near Van Buren and Ft. Smith. Another branch, with Clairborn's brother, Edward, went to Indian Terr. and then on to west Texas. Others stuck around Alabama and Mississippi and other areas of the south. During the depression in the 1930's my grandfather retired from his farm and moved to Dallas, Texas living with his daughter, Annie Ethel Arkans Tiffin Hevron. My parents also moved to the Dallas, Texas area. That's the whole history in short of my Tiffin line.
The story is that the Tiffins came to Cumbria, England from Scotland and before that they were in the Orkney Islands of Viking stock, before that maybe Norway. There may be some connection with Thorffin, one of the early Earl's of Orkney.

Regards,
Don Tiffin
Texas

Hi Floyd,
Here's back at you from up here in Vancouver B.C.. I have been aware of yourself and the Tiffin reunion for a while now but everyone I have been in contact with is unable to provide a connection between the Tiffins in Texas and the ones here in Canada. I'm sure you're right about us being related but the question remains how. Maybe someday someone will have a breakthrough. The Richard Tiffin in Clare's post is related to me as he is my GreatGrandfather's brother. I found his descendants in California through another post left here several years ago. I just found another third cousin from another line in California a couple of months ago. This is a great resource isn't it?
Anyways I will provide you with the URL for my website where you can find my email address if you want it. One of the people back east that I correspond with regularly may have given you the URL already but you wouldn't necessarily know to connect that with me. (http://www3.telus.net/jtiffingenealogy)
Just so you know my line of descent is Isaac(circa 1710-)>Joseph(1759-)>William(22 JUL 1808-27 FEB 1878)>Joseph William(15 JAN 1839-28 DEC 1920)>William(15 APR 1869-29 JUL 1935)>Andrew Lindsay(25 JUN 1905-29 MAR 1997)>Joseph William(me)

Hello Billy,
You and I are 3rd. cousins. My grandfather was born and lived in Scottsboro, Alabama before moving to Fine Springs Community, near Alma, Arkansas. Thanks for the information and I put that on our data base. I have talked to your son William David, Jr., think I talked to you maybe on the phone once a few years ago. Something interesting: I think I met James Andrew Tiffin once. Did he own a store there in Edinbrough, Texas? My dad, Roy A. Tiffin, was down in the valley on business and I was with him as a kid of 8 years old. Someone told him of a Tiffin who owned a store there and we drove over and met him. I think that is the same person. He was my dad's 2nd. cousin I think and they were able to establish who each other were and connections to Alabama. Also If you go back on the lines up to Clairborn Tiffin's children, his son David Benson Tiffin was born in 1850, five year older than my grand dad and died in Arkansas in 1929 and my grandfather and my parents all knew him in Arkansas. So you and me are on the same Tiffin line going back to Clairborn Tiffin and Henry Tiffin II.

Nice to get the information. I may try to look you up here in Texas and give you a call on the phone sometime.

Regards,
Donald (Don) A Tiffin
The Colony (north of Dallas), Texas

Teresa,

I've got very few pictures from that line of, some from way back...but...Best bet
would be to e-mail Floyd and I think I
still have his right e-mail as:

floydtiffin@suddenlink.net ,

He goes by Sonny and if he doesn't have some pictures of
side of the family, he will know who will have
them, I think.

If you have trouble with e-mail, check back with me, I think that is the one he is using now.

Don

Hi Teresa,

Your line of Tiffin is from Edward Tiffin, born in 1802 who was a brother to my Clairborn Tiffin, my great great grandfather. Three Tiffin brothers were the first to move to Alabama back in the 1820's and then their father moved down from Washington County, TN, he was Henry Tiffin II.

Our database is on Roots Web: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/
look for where to enter the database name, which is dtiffin
and you can get to our database. It has about 17000 people on and lots of Tiffins.

There is a Tiffin reunion once a year you may know.

Anyway, I've got quite a bit of information on your live of Tiffin and would be glad to help any I can.

Nice to meet you!

Don Tififn
in The Colony, Texas (near Dallas)

My Great-grandfather was Arlander Tiffin son of Henry Buel Tiffin, son of Henry Clay Tiffin. I could go on but I think you probably have it now. I would love to compare notes with you about my family. You seem to know a lot and have researched this extensively. Please contact me back. Thank you.

Do you have any photos or documentations that I can get copies of? I have found a few but my Grandmother was not into the family thing and did not make keeping things a priority. I have found census', but I am not having much luck on photos. A very nice lady found me and sent me a photo of Alander, Ella, Lorretta and Noel Tiffin. They are my great-grandparents and aunt and uncle. My brother found another piture of Lorretta but that is all we have. I am so excited to find someone on the Tiffin side.

I went to a reunion when I was very young. I believe it was in Altas Oklahoma. I would love to know when and where. My mother has been asking me to find out if they are still having them.
