Joseph Tilling-Tillinghast

Ed Tilling  (View posts) Posted: 4 Sep 1999 5:02PM GMT
Sounds as if we could be related. In fact you sound as if you might be my cousin Bob's daughter. Some of the things you mention sound about right. Joe Tilling was born in 1868 and supposidly was in St. Mary's from the age of 5 to 19.

Yes we are related

Hi Ed,
How are you and the family doing? I am Bob's daughter. I got to chatting with Todd about the name being changed so he wanted to know when Joseph was born and where. He has quite a large data bank of information but we are missing some pieces. Do you know where grandpa Joe was born or what his parents names were. My granddad Otts and dad told he shortened his last name after he got out of St. Mary's. And that he named his sons after his brothers or at least some of them. Is this correct and can you tell me anything else that might be helpful. Grandpa Joe was quite a mystery. Hope everthing is well with everyone and tell them we said hi. I told Louise we should have a family reunion like the ones we used to have at Aunt Roses house. I always loved it when the family got together for the crab feasts in gran and grandads garage. What happened to all of us we all had some much fun and got along so well. Barbie and I go down memory lane sometimes and laugh about when the bats would get into the house during the some of the parties. Oh well like they say those were the good old days. I'm glad I have the memories. But I miss the closeness we all had. Let's try to get the gang back together sometime for a reunion instead of a funeral. OK? Hope to hear from you soon. Love, hugs and kisses to all of you. Caryl

Tillinghast-Tichborne connection?

jcnolan  (View posts) Posted: 3 Oct 1999 11:12AM GMT
Todd, I too am a descendent of the Tillinghast family. I am looking for information on Pardon's (the immigrant) mother. I have found conflicting information. Some places I have found his mother listed as Elizabeth Tichborne and others as Sarah Browne. I have seen both of them listed as married to Pardon's father - on the same day (26 Nov 1622)!! Any clarification would be appreciated.
Thanks
JC

I believe he is a son of Judge Pardon Tillinghast. No proof though.

JC I have Pardon John Tillinghast and Sarah Browne as the parents of Elder Pardon Tillinghast b. Jan 2, 1624/25 . There does seem to be some confusion abt this. Pardon John Tillinghast married Elizabeth Tichborne abt 1621, and it seems that they had a son Pardon Tillinghast b. 1622. I am assuming he died as infant.
hope this helps
Deborah

Lillibridge Barber Tillinghast is the son of Thomas Tillinghast and Alice Barber. I have his complete lineage traced back to Pardon Tillinghast. Please send me your mailing address and I will send you a copy (no charge). I would love to trade info. with you - I know very little about the descendants of Lillibridge. He and Rhoda Rawson had 7 children. The first was born in West Greenwich, RI. The next six were all born in Bellingham, MA. Contact me at TCLRI@aol.com.

Tillinghast - Tichborne connection

NYLawrence  (View posts) Posted: 8 Nov 1999 8:43AM GMT
Hi JC

Sorry it took so long to notice your post. Sarah browne is definitely the mother of Pardon Tillinghast the immigrant. Elizabeth Tichborne has no connection to the family. Pardon's parents were married on 26 Nov. 1622. Pardon was baptized Jan 2, 1624/25. It is hard to say when he was born exactly - 1623 or 1624. It was common practice to delay a christening until the parents knew the child would live! Any way, the 1622 birth date for Pardon is obviously incorrect.
How do you connect to the family?

Thank you for the information! Is the source you cited still in print? Where did you see/obtain this book? I would really appreciate it.

Abigail Tillinghast Green was my GGGGGrandmother. She was the daughter of Pardon and Abigail Rogers. She married Rev. Caleb Green in RI.
