I have your Isaac and his family in my database. Strangley enough it was the story of his fatal accident that led to me finding my great great grandfather, also Isaac Tillman from Leigh, but ten years older than your Isaac. I am sure the families are connected but I can't get back beyond your Isaac's father, Samuel to discover where the link is. If you'd like to see what I have on the Tillmans from Leigh then please get in touch.
Sheila

Mattie Tilman (@1907-@1930) - Washington, DC Metro Area

Greetings to members of the Tilman family. My name is Pat and I am new to Ancestry.com. I just learned yesterday that my paternal grandmother's birth surname was Tilman. Her name was Mattie Elizabeth Tilman. She was African American and was raised by Alfred and Adelphia Gross in Nottingham, Maryland. I do not know who her parents were, nor do I know what her blood relationship was to the people that raised her, if any. My grandmother passed away when my dad was 5 years old. I understand that she married a gentleman named William Henry Quigley. She may also have subsequently married Frederick Augustus Jones, Sr. My dad was her only child.

My dad is 83 years old. He has tried over the years to identify and connect with members of his mother's family. Only through this website was I able to learn what my grandmother's real name was. I would be grateful if someone would be comfortable enough to put me in touch with Tilmans living in the Washington, DC and southern Maryland area, as there may still be someone around that remembers my grandmother, the people that raised her, or even possibly my father (Fred). If I am going about this in the wrong way, please do not hesitate to let me know. Thank you so much!

Pat

Lettice Tillman - South Carolina

Need help identifying the family of a Lettice Tillman, b. abt. 1757 in either VA or SC who I think is my GGG-Grandmother. She is believed to have married James Rosamond who was born in Augusta County, VA about 1754. James Rosamond's family moved to the Old Ninety Six District in SC between 1765-1767 at which time Lettice Tillman would have been only about 10 years old, so it is probable that she and her husband met and married in South Carolina. Children from this marriage were Mary Rosamond (never married), Nathaniel Jones Rosamond, Rev. Thomas A. Rosamond, Benjamin Rosamond and Samuel E. Rosamond. Thomas, Benjamin and Samuel Rosamond all moved to central Mississippi in the middle-1800s. I have estimated James Rosamond and Lettice Tillman's marriage date to be about 1778 as their first child (Mary Rosamond) is believed to have been born about 1880. Their last child, Samuel E. Rosamond, was born about 1792 in South Carolina, and Lettice Tillman Rosamond appears to have died about that time as a short time later James Rosamond remarried to a Mary Doherty.

Any information anyone can provide on Lettice Tillman will be greatly appreciated.

Jimmy Rosamond
jdrosamond@adelphia.net
