Wendy ~ I have a copy of "The Tincher Tribe". Sarah was a popular name in the Tincher family, and there were several Tincher families who settled in Greenbrier. Can you provide any additional information (birthdate, other family members, etc) in order to narrow the search?

Not sure if you received an answer to your query. According to the source I have (book called Tincher Tribe), James W Tincher (b. 16 Feb 1827) was married twice, first to Mary Ann Pigg. They had 7 children, the 6th named James W Tincher, b. 1865, d. 1954, md. Rose Watkins (b. 3 Oct 1877. Their first child was born 1851. He married a 2nd time to Nancy Hunt (b.c.1832, d. 1914). They had two children, Henry and Andrew. Henry was born 1874. Sorry, I don't have marriage dates.

Although the birth date is different, is this the James W Tincher you were referring to?

I looking for proof either way...who James W Tincher b. 1827 married. I've seen two names. Mary Ann Pigg. Or Nancy Hunt. Or was he married to both. And if so....approximate marriage dates. I'm trying to figure out the mother of James Tincher b. 1867 was? Again, I've seen Mary listed as mother. And also seen Nancy listed as mother.

Re: The Tincher Tribe by Lois Tincher Dorsey

Here are 12 public libraries that have copies of “The Tincher Tribe” (complete title: The Tincher tribe and Caesar's Tencteri tribe : [chronicles of a pioneer family in the valley of Virginia, 1750, and some who migrated westward] by Lois Tincher Dorsey; Cleo Tincher Bryan; Edgar Kerry Tincher). I found these using the The World Catalog—OCLC (http://www.worldcat.org/) It will not only tell you where the book can be found, but sort the libraries by mileage from your zip code!! It only includes libraries who have their collections linked online, so many genealogical/ historical libraries are not included. But it is a good source for finding that obscure book. I keep a running list of books I want to see and their locations. Then when I travel, I can see what library I need to visit.

1. Newberry Library Chicago, IL 60610 United States
2. WISCONSIN HISTORICAL SOCIETY Madison, WI 53706
3. Allen County Public Library Ft Wayne, IN 46801
4. KENTON COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY Covington, KY 41011
5. Grace a Dow Memorial Library Midland, MI 48640
6. Eastern Kentucky University Richmond, KY 40475
7.
Hi Marlene,
I am not sure the answer to that question about the 2 Sarah's. Chapman Sims and Sarah Tate were married in Louisa County, Virginia Dec. 20, 1817. But, according to census records, our Sarah would have been too young to have been married in 1817. I share info with an older gentleman about 80 years old and he grew up out at Dawson and Blue Sulphur Springs and he gave me the name of Sarah "Patton." His computer crashed and he lost all his resources and he doesn't remember where he got the name of Sarah Patton. If we could find info that dated our Sarah to be old enough to marry by 1817... I would say yes. Chapman Sims has been very hard to trace and I have been unable to find a will for either one. I found a record where Chapman Symes owned a lot in Lewisburg and he is listed on a few birth records for his children, but, they don't all have birth records recorded at the court house. Then there is the agreement recorded that Sarah Sims and James Bennett had between them for James to receive her pension in return for her care. There is a death record for Chapman, but, it doesn't give any clues. No clues as to whether or not either one of them were ever in Louisa County, Virginia. I know that at one time there was a court record that Sarah Tate Sims had filed in Louisa County that Chapman had just up and left her and I think maybe she was trying to have him declared dead, because, he had never come back. So, this lead me to believe that this Sarah Tate was not the same Sarah as the one in Greenbrier County...but, it could be one and the same Chapman Sims. I just don't know. He has been my stubbling block for 10 years.
If you ever want to email me personally you are welcome to do that. filobeco@suddenlink.net

Hi!
Jane Sims was the daughter of Chapman Sims and Sarah Patton. It has been very hard to find any records on Chapman and Sarah Sims. I know they lived on Bennett Mountain, Blue Sulphur Springs. They were living there when they died and I "assume" they are buried in the "Sims" cemetery located there. There are no markers for their graves. Chapman was born about 1794 and died May 16, 1856 Blue Sulphur Springs, Greenbrier County, (West) Virginia.
Sarah was born about 1810 and died after 1880. She was living with her daughter, Martha and her husband James William Bennett, at the time of her death. She had an agreement written up with James that he would receive her pension as long as he provided her with a roof and food to eat.

My paternal grandfather was James Albert Tincher born 11 June 1868, or possibly 1862. He was married to Octavia Smith, daughter of Andrew Smith, son of Jacob Smith, son of Christian Smith. James Albert died 10 December, 1951 and Octavia died 23 April 1965 (they both died in Williamson, WV.)
I have more info, but as yet have not been able to make any connection to any other Tincher's. I have James Albert's dad as Brud Tincher ( I believe Brud is a mispelling due to dialect or a nickname) and his mom as Beth Barney.

Anyone that can help me, please do so. I am new to this genealogy research and a novice at using e-mail etc.

I'm new at this. What is BMD?

My Great Great Grandmother was Sarah Margaret Tincher she married a John Morris Bryant and she was the daughter of Willis Tincher and Jane Sims in Blue Sulphur Springs, Greenbrier County, WV.

Willis Tincher can be traced back to Frances Pincher from Worchester, Enc.

I find a dead end on Jane Sims except that she had a sister Nancy Sims. All from the same area.

Thanks for the wonderful information.

I can find a Chapman Sims married to a Sarah in the 1850 Census. I can also find a Chapman Sims married to Sarah Tate on Dec. 20, 1817. Is this the same as Sarah Patton?
