I'm looking for Fred J Tindell (10/29/21-1/12/97). I believe he may have been married to my grandmother's aunt (Pauletta Wilson)in 1939. In 1939, he lived in Joplin and went to WWII five years later. He lived in Urbana, Dallas County, MO at the time of his death. Just wondering if he was still married or had children. Thanks!

In the 1880 Census Knox Co., Tennessee, Alfred was 66 and Sarah was 65. Seems probable they died and were buried in Knox County...but I don't have any proof of that. Hope that can steer you in the right direction, at least. Have a great day.
Pat Tindell (utahvol@msn.com)

I am very confused. I am gggg-grand daughter to Robert Tindell and Margaret McClain through Anna Tindell and Charles Karnes. I know Robert was from TN. In the 1830 Census I found both Robert and a Joshua in Knox, TN. Then in 1850 Census I found both Robert and Joshua again, but living within a few pages I found a Henry born 1800 in TN and a Isaac born 1805 in TN. Are these all brothers? Does any one know? Or any clues to parentage? theresa

Tindells in Iowa

My grandfather, William Tindell, was born in southwest Wisconsin in a town called Lead Mine. He then moved to Galena, Illinois. After that he married and moved to Dubuque, Iowa where he lived until his death in 1980. My grandfather had a brother, Charles, that settled in Zimmerman, Minnesota. Does anyone have relations to this Tindell? I am trying to trace our family history. My e-mail is Kent.Tindell07@gmail.com. Hoping to hear from somebody.

Jane
I think he may have remarried. I found a census for 1920 with a Robert and Lucy(I think was Lucy don't have it in front of me right now) in Knox County. I was never told he remarried though. I will try and send copies of death certificates later tonight or tomorrow. I will just scan copy and e-mail for you.

Kathy

Barry
I go to the Archives when I can make the time(not very often). The microfilm is time consuming. The only deed I have is for Eliza and James Davis, Knox County. I have obits for Eliza and her brother Charley and a death certificate for Eliza and another brother John Nathan. Will e-mail copies of death certificates if you would like to have them and copy of deed also. These were children of Robert G Tindell. I had an uncle that lived at the corner cross roads of Racoon Valley Rd. and Hill Rd. and I was told there was a Tindell farm that bordered Uncle John's place. This would be in Northeast Knox County. Your Martha sounds like my g-grandmother Eliza she was 13 and my g-grandfather was 25. So young. I have worked mostly on my Davis side and just in the past year worked more on the Tindells. My grandmother told me Robert was buried at Marietta Church and that he died when my aunt Alma was about a year old and she was born in 1926. I have found nothing on him other than a census. Here is obits and Charles is buried at Longfield Cem. in Lake City.

Kathy

Obituary: Davis, Mrs. Eliza, age 78, of Route 2, Concord died 8 a.m. Wednesday at the home of her son Fletcher Davis after a lingering illness. She was a member of Marietta Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of the late James Davis. Survivors: sons, Renzo, Lenoir City; Lee, Oscar, Fletcher and Vestal, all of Concord; brother, Charles Tindle; sister, Mrs. Carrie Medlin, White Pine, Tenn.; 51 grandchildren and 66 great-grandchildren. The body will be returned to the home of Fletcher Davis at 1 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services 2 p.m. Friday at Marietta Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Rev. Carles Faith and Rev. Paul Justice officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers: Ralph, J.C., James, Cecil, Hobart and Amos Davis. Weavers in charge.

Obituary: Week of Jan 16th 1958 Clinton Courier
Charles C Tindell
Funeral services for Charles C. Tindell, 80, who died at his home on Lenoir City Rt. 5, were held Friday afternoon at Martins Chapel at Lake City.
Survivors are daughter, Mrs. Dave Sharp, Clinton, Rt.2; son C. M. Tindell, Lenoir City Rt.5; stepdaughters, Mrs. Maxine Wallace and Mrs. Minnie Lee Lisenbee, Clinton Rt.2; sister Mrs. Carrie Medlin, White Pine.
Martins at Lake City was in charge.

My g-grandmother is Mary Ellen Tindell, she married Frank Williams in the Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory in 1905. She is also listed on the Choctaw Nation Official website under Frank Anukytubbee Williams who was a Choctaw Original Enrollee and she is on the Dawes Rolls under hte Choctaw by Marriage #977. I have been told she had Cherokee blood but have not been able to confirnm it yet.
I think she passed away in 1981, I was out of the country at the time, so I'm not absolutely sure, it could have been a year or 2 later.
Kathy
Have you tried searching at the Knox Co. Archives? They are very helpful. Also, do you have any deed records for Alfred or any of the Tindells? According to my father, William Claude Smith, Elbert Smith, my g-gandfather, had to walk by the Tindell house every day on his way to school. Sarah Gray Tindell stopped him one day and told him that if he would fetch her a bucket of water every morning and evening from the creek she would let him have her baby girl, Martha Ann Elizabeth, for his wife when she turned 15. He was 15 at the time. When Martha turned 15, they were married. My research has shown the difference in ages varies between 10 and 15 years depending on the census. If the story is not true, it is still a good story.
Barry

I do not have my records with me, but your date sounds correct, at least the 1915 date is correct. Martha lived and died north of Chattanooga in an area between "Big Soddy" and "Bakewell, TN". She is buried in Coleman Cem., Bakewell, TN. I cannot recall her siblings from memory, but I think they are online. Do a search for Alfred Tindell/ Sarah Gray and check siblings.
Barry

Hi, I don't know if you are still interested in researching the Tindell line, but I believe we may be related. My grandma was the daughter of Robert Tindell, son of Pierce Tindell. She had an aunt Mary who went by the name "Eler". She told me that her aunt was married to a man by the name of Williams and lived in Centrrahoma Oklahoma. Her aunt had several children including Janey, Florence, Forest "Chief", Silas, Frank "Frankie" and the youngest daughter went by the knickname of Putt. Her other aunt was Alice Tindell, and married to a man by the name of Henry Jordan. Her children are Ethel, Oly, Maggie, and Bill. They lived in Centrahoma and ran a cotton gin. Jeff and Robert were farmers. I see that your post was several years old, but if you are still interested in researching the Tindell line I would love to compare notes. I probably don't have as much as you since I'm just starting out. Either way I would love to connect with some Tindell relatives. Please let me know if you think this includes you.
Dezi
I am just wondering if you are related to the Tindels from Centrahoma by the names of Eler Tindel (children: Forest "Chief" Williams, Silas Williams, Frank "Frankie" Williams), Alice Tindel (married name Jerdin, Gerdin?) Children Ethel Jerdin. Eler and Alice were sisters to my great grandfather Robert Tindel who married Mary Workman. Their daughter is Alice Opal Tindel and was raised with her grandmother in centrahoma. Robert and Mary had an older son as well, but he grew up in Arkansas and my grandma doesn't know much else about him. Her uncle was Jeff Tindell who was married to Birdie Alice Tindel, (children: Dewitt, Pierce, Lenny, Ruth, and Cybil). If this sounds like we are looking for the same information I would apreciate any leads you could give me.

Barry
There is an 1870 census on Alfred and Sarah in Jefferson County, Tennessee, page no.2 Civil Dist. 7, spelling is Tinnel. From what I have found 1850 Knox, 1860 Jefferson, 1870 Jefferson, 1880 Knox. My line is with Robert G. and from what my grandmother could tell me before her death is that he died around 1927 and was buried at Marietta Church in Knox County, Tennessee. There is no stone for him. He married Martha D Morgan in Jefferson County on Dec 28 1860. I have looked a few times in Knoxville to try and find an obit but not knowing for certain his death date makes it very hard and there may not be an obit anyway. Martha is buried in Anderson County, Tennessee at Old Red Hill Cemetery. I have a photo of her grave stone. Kathy

I don't know if what my grandmother told me is correct she was forgetful at times. I have Alfred and Sarah Gray married June 19 1834 Knox County, Tennessee. Children are from census records listed Mary Jane 1835, Charles 1838, Robert G (my line)1842, Martha A 1844, John C 1847, James M 1849, Sarah M E 1852, Barthena C/Parthena 1854, William L 1857, Linda E/Melinda 1861. I have Robert G and Martha D Morgan married Dec 30 1860 Jefferson County, Tennessee. Children are from census records and obits, John Nathan Apr 11 1860 buried Bethany Baptist, Knox County, William 1865, Martha C 1869, Sarah N 1872, Eliza Ann (my line) Mar 28 1877 buried at Marietta Church, Knox County, Charles C 1878 buried at Longfield Cem., Lake City, Tennessee and Carrie who married a Medlin and lived in Whitepine. I have searched obits for Robert some in the time frame my grandmother gave me but have had no luck. My grandmother said my Aunt Alma was about a year old when Robert died and Alma was born in 1926. She also said Robert was buried at Marietta Church Cem. it is located on Marietta Church Road in West Knox County. There is not a grave stone for him. My grandmother said he was at an angle above where my great-grandmother Eliza is buried. There is about 4 unmarked graves there. Eliza is Robert's daughter. I have a death certificate for John Nathan and Eliza and obits for Eliza and Charles if you are interested. I have concentrated mostly on Robert's children before moving on to much.

Kathy

Does anyone know the last name of the wife of John M. Tindell born c1857 in Polk Co., MO? He was married to Lottie in about 1892. I have a Charlotte Evans b. c1865 who disappeared after the 1880 census in Douglas Co., MO. Lottie Tindell matches the information for my Charlotte Evans. Charlotte Evans was a d/o Stephen B. Evans (b. c1823 TN) & Lurana Chandler (b. c1825 IN).
