Next is a reply I received from someone on line that may be of help to others out there:

> It appears that the Tippetts of NC are descended from 3 or 4 family
lines,
> perhaps all related, though I haven't been able to find the connecting
> link(s).
>
> (1) Philip Tippett (III) of Halifax Co., NC who was the great grandson of

> Philip Tippett (I) of St. Mary's Co., MD. Philip (I) arrived in MD in
1681
> and died there in 1706. He, Philip (III), had twin sons, Erasmus Lee
> Tippett and Erastus Lee Tippett. The descendants of Erastus became
TIPPIT.
> Their (both Erasmus and Erastus) descendants migrated to TN, LA and TX.
> Officer J. D. Tippit, who was killed during the Kennedy assassination,
was a
> descendant of Erastus.
>
> (2) John Tippett of Granville/Rowan Cos., NC (died in 1796). This is the

> family from whom I descend. His ggggrandson, William D. Tippett, was my
gg
> grandfather. 15 of William D's siblings and his parents, William T.
> Tippett, Jr. and Arenia Adcock settled in KY in 1857.
>
> (3) Jonathan Tippett of Granville Co., NC died in 1841
>
> (4) James Tippett was in Jones Co., NC in 1740.
>
> Then, there were:
>
> James C. Tippett in TN in 1800 whose families settled in NV, OR.
> James Tippett whose TIPPIT descendants settled in TX.
> William B. Tippit, born in SC, but settled in TX.
>
> If your grandparents were from Raleigh, NC, most likely they are a part
of
> either #2 or #3, above.
>
> Send me more info and I'll try to connect them.
