David J. Tobin, 63, Moline, Ill.., died Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, at the VA Hospital, Iowa City.
The Rev. Don Swanson will officiate.

The Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Tobin was born Feb. 26, 1942, in Moline, the son of Harold John and Marjorie G. Sullivan Tobin. He married Nora Lee Bilterman Harville on July 9, 1988.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving on a mine sweeper and from 1961-67 he was stationed in San Salvador, Bahamas.

He studied at St. Ambrose University and was a graduate of Weaver Airline School, Kansas City, Kan. He was a senior passenger agent with United Airlines before retiring. He owned and operated a Subway Restaurant in Troy, Mo., for four years. He enjoyed traveling, snorkeling, was a certified scuba diver and an avid fisherman, which included deep sea fishing.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Paul Anthony 'Tony' Harville of Muscatine; two daughters, Julie Stuchell of Sacramento, Calif. and Leigh Anne Harris and husband Kelly of Muscatine; eight grandchildren, Mikayla and Colin Stuchell, Miranda and Melinda Harris, Samantha and Sabrina Harris and Jennifer and Cassandra Harville; and a sister, Mary Jo Tobin Edwards of Moline.
He was preceded in death by his father; and his mother on Jan. 20, 2006.

Posts regarding Tobin’s in the upper Midwest are always of interest. My Great-grandfather, Edward (William?), b1828 Ireland, settled in Waukegan, IL as found in the US Census of 1860. He had male siblings, we believe 4 or 5, who settled in the US about the same time but we do not know where. Therefore any information that identifies a possible sibling is of interest.
There is a good likelihood that a sibling could have settled in the upper mid-west. The birthdates of male Tobin’s born between 1820 and 1830 in Ireland and showing in a US Census of 1860 are particularly of interest.

Julia Crowley Tobin was my maternal grandmother.
Andrew died in the flu epidemic in 1920 when my mother was just 7 years old. They had five children.
My mother grew up in East Bloomfield NY.
Julia was one of 13 Crowley children.

This girl talked me into marrying her and then kicked me out, started dating a girl and ran up insurance bills on my insurance all over the country. I think i was her third husbund and has already wen through a fourth. She always told me she didnt want to meet any of her siblings. She wouldnt even talk or see her sister that lived two hours from us. Im not buying this bullshit again, noone else should either. What a joke!

Looking for info on John J Tobin Jr. born 1888 in Cambridge Ma. married Ellen Gertrude ? John was an attorney. His parents were John J Tobin born 1859 and mother was Mary A. Ferry. May have had a brother Francis F. John and Ellens children were Katherine L, Marie R (married Knox) Ellen and Francis. John Jr. was also the gaurdian of Herbert Ferry. Any info. would be a great help.

Justin, I suggest you look for an obituary or death notice of some sort which would help with confirming their age at death, possibly where they came from and decedents. You may want to look at census records for this information.

In 1814, Benjamin Tobin sold land in Breckinridge County, KY to John P Blanford for $1, This kind of sale was usually within a family. Does anyone know the relationship between these 2 men? I believe Benjamin Tobin was a member of the family for whom Tobinsport, Tobin Township, Perry County, IN was named. Is it possible that John P Blanford was his son-in-law? The name of Blanford's first wife, the mother of his sons, has not been found. Would love to hear from anyone who might be able to shed some light on this.

Mary Tobin, born 1872 Orange , Essex Co , New Jersey, US. Back to Liverpool. Daughter, Cecilia, born 1975 Liverpool. To NZ where Michael Tobin, born 1877.

Mary Tobin married Christian Horne.

Grand ma I can remember having her 90 birthday party,and talking to the speaker of the house John Mccormick Aunt Stephine is still around living in Dighton Ma,or at times with Steve Bassett in Attleboro.It seems that after my dad died in 71 Ed John Kane the grandma died 10 years to the day that my dad died June 9th Call me if you have any question that I might be able to answer 508-866-3205

Thanks you Denise. Oral tradition has Edward coming to the US with 5 brothers (maybe 4 in addition to himself). I did come across a naturalization record on Footnote for a John Tobin, Anne Arundel Co, MD, naturalization date of Oct. 22, 1859. A possible sibling but to which I haven't been able to tie.

I find this interesting given the Edawrd Tobin I am researching and who first shows in the US Census of 1860 in Illinois, had brothers who came with him from Ireland who settled in other areas - could this be one of the brothers?

I am wondering if there is a connection with the Tobin’s of Waukegan, Illinois (Waukegan being on the border with Wisconsin). I am researching the family of Edward Tobin, b1828 in Ireland and appearing in the US Census of 1860 in Waukegan. He was to have had several brothers who came from Ireland about the same time but scattered to other areas with contact eventually being lost. I will appreciate any information.

Do you know any complete dates and locations? Death location?

On the SS Death index there are 6 Thomas Tobin who died in 1979. None listed as Thomas J Tobin.

When were Thomas and Daisy married? Is she still living or when and where did she die?

I think I may be connected to this Michael and Bridget Tobin. My great-grandfather was Herbert John Tobin, who may have been known just as John, but my family knew little about him as he was not talked about due to the fact that he deserted his family (and other scurrilous behaviour). But I've obtained copies of 2 marriage certificates for him here in New Zealand (his first wife, my great-grandmother, divorced him) on both of which he cites Michaela and Bridget as his parents but has different birth dates and places - in the first he puts England and the second he puts the US. I also found a record of passengers from Liverpool to NZ on the Jessie Osborne, in 1876: Michael, Bridget Tobin (both 28 yrs) with John Hill (6), Mary E (4), and Cecelia (1). Did they move to the US then back to England and then to NZ? I've found official records of 10 children born to Michael and Bridget Tobin between 1877 and 1894...

I have Tobins in Banshe, Ireland. Julia Ryan (maiden name Tobin) came with children to Victoria Australia where they settled and stayed for at least one generation.

Let us know which country you are in, if Tobin family were there and which country you believe they came from.
Any names you have would be helpful in getting further information from records or the families on the Tobin mailing list.

Hello: My father was Eugene Bessette. I don't have any more information than what you have listed and would love if you could share with me what you have found. I do remember "Grandma" telling me her father's name was David Tobin and her mother was Mary Moran. She had a cousin who was "Judge Stone" from Brockton, MA and Maurice Tobin (former governor) was also a cousin.

His parents came from County Clare Ireland.
Thomas & Theresa Tobin. He had a sister Thersa Tobin born 16 Jan 1857, she is my 2nd Great Grandmother

Searching for info on my paternal grandfather's family. My grandfather Patrick Tobin was born in Merthyr Tydfill Wales,in 1909. His parents were James Tobin and Annie(Doyle)nee Butler were married in 1907 in Wales. Unfortunately Patrick was orphaned by December 1911. He was raised by an uncle and aunt Stephan Tobin and Mary Butler. They had two boys of their own Stephan and James, sometime prior to 1914 the family returned to Watergrasshill Co. Cork Ireland, prior to the release of the 1911 census had thought this was were the family may have originated in Ireland, info on the Welsh 1911 census provides place of birth for gt grandfather stating TULLIG LEAP Co. CORK IRELAND.
Have now through this found family in Irish 1911 census for same area, Father(gt gt grandfather), Michael, and three other siblings Richard, Thomas and Julia.
Any information that anyone has on this family would be greatly appreciated.

I do not know if Richard was any relation to Edward. I am doing research on families from the Washington Township and Lilly area.
