Lindley, NY - Lawrence C. Toby, 92, of 554 US Rte #15, Lindley, NY entered into rest on Monday, Jun 5, 2006 at his lifetime home following an extended illness.
He was born on February 10, 1914 in Lindley, NY, a son of Harrison and June Harris Toby. He was married on July 3 1941 to the former Elaine Kittel.
Lawrence was a rural mail carrier working out of the Lindley post office for 37 years and retired in 1979. He was also engaged in farming on the family farm for 40 yrs. He was a member of the Steuben county Farm Bureau, NYS Grange, National Ayrshire Breeders Assoc., National, State and Steuben county Rural Letter Carriers Assoc., Presho United Methodist Church, charter member of Lindley-Presho Fire Depart. He was a former school bus driver. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; three sons, Elwyn E. (Carmen) Toby of Whitneyville, PA, Richard L. (Florence) Toby of Wilmington, NC, Blaine C. (Renee') Toby of Lindley; a daugther, Barbara J. (Mrs. Robert L) Henry of Lawrenceville, PA; 4-grandchildren; 3-great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two brothers, Francis Toby and Wilford Toby both of Lawrenceville, PA; two sisters, Margaret Cookingham of Kenmore and Eleanor Toby of Painted Post; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister Evelyn Toby in 1979.
Friends may call Wednesday evening from 7-9pm and Thursday 10-11am at the Flint Funeral Home, 10 Wall St, Addison, NY. Funeral and committal services will be held at the conclusion of calling at 11 am Thursday with Rev John Owen, officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Lindley, NY
