Mrs M B Toby married R W Scarborough, Lavaca County, TX 1881

Does anyone know who was the Mrs. M B Toby who married R W Scarborough in Lavaca County, Texas on 27 Oct 1881? It is most likely that this was the Ruben Scarborough who was the widower of Cindy Sullivan by the 1880 census. Cindy Sullivan and Rueben Scarborough had at least one child, George Scarborough, who was born 9 Dec 1877 near Sublime, Lavaca County, Texas. It is possible that Mrs. M B Toby died, or divorced R W Scarborugh. A Mr. R W Scarborough married Miss Georgina Kincheloe on 18 Mar 1884 in Colorado County, Texas. As far as I know at this time, there was only one R W Scarborough-- Rueben W Scarborough-- in the Lavaca County-Colorado County, Texas area during this time frame.

Toby,
My family was part of the MMM. There are many websites concerning it and a movie is coming out this fall concerning the massacre. For names of the slaughtered and names of the survivors, there is a website that is maintained by family members of the slain and of he Lee family. One site is www.mountainmeadowmassacre.com if you do a search, you can find the foundation taking care of the site/monument. I just ordered a DVD of one movie documenting this event and expect it this weekend. If you need more sites to visit to do more investigation, email me at kim.smith@sbcglobal.net

In a recent visit to Pensacola, Florida, in search of some 'brick wall' relatives' information, I came across the grave of Katherine Toby. Aged 26 Years ..

Her grave is next to William Steele b. Apr 30, 1853, d July 24, 1928 and on his opposite side is the grave of his second wife Mary Zoe Steele b. Oct 25, 1877, d. Dec 26, 1963.

In this link is reference to a Katherine Steel (note spelling)

http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/fl/escambia/vitals/deat...

Dates are off and spelling is as well . . . curious as to what 'IR' means.

If anyone has any link or idea, please reply directly to me and to the list . . . many other cousins out there may be searching as well.
A.R.Toby of Vernon, Tx.

I am trying to find family info on an A.R. Toby, I don't know what the A.R. stands for. My mom was married to him around 1947, her name was Lois Shuflin Payton. They had a daughter named Frieda Ann Toby on Jan.28,1948, I don't know if she was born in Vernon or Wichita Falls, Tx. A.R. was an Insurance man, he worked for Prudential Ins. in Vernon, I think. He got cancer and they moved to Burkburnett,Tx. to stay with my grandparents since he was unable to work. He died when Frieda was about 1yr. old. I would like to find some family info on him since my mom has since died and so did Frieda. Frieda had a son and I'm doing our family tree and would like this info to put in this tree since A.R. now has a grandson and maybe even Ggrandkids. I think Friedas son might like to know about his moms family someday. I would also like to know where he is buried. Thanks for the help, you can e-mail me at slotmomma51@hotmail.com Linda

Karen - My line is: Michael Tobey (b5/3/1789)m.Gertrude Charity Baker (b8/27/1792)on 12/5/1810. Children: Barbara, Elizabeth, Margaret,Rachael, and Michael. Born/lived near Boonesboro, Washington County, MD.

Michael(2) m. Magdeline Miller, date unk. They moved to Montgomery County, OH, date unk. Children: Eliza, Michael Tobias, Susana, Henry, Sophia, Robert, Reuben, Nathaniel, and Barbara. They are buried Greencastle Cem., Dayton, OH.; she possibly at Millersburg, Holmes County, OH.

I am descended of Michael Tobias Tobey. His brother Henry Tobey (b10/14/1817) m. Magdeline C. Rohrer on 12/14/1835.

Michael T. Tobey (b5/14/1815) m. Catherine Rohrer on 2/14/1836, and was in Coles County, IL. by 1852-53. I have nothing more regarding the rest of the family. I have Michael T. Tobey's line in some detail as Coles County, IL. is "home" to the Tobey and Miller families. Most are buried at Dodge Grove Cem., Mattoon, IL.

I have not found the parents of Michael(1) or Gertrude Charity Baker although there are families of that name (and Rohrer) in Washington County area. I am not sure of the dates they moved to OH or who actaully relocated. Hard copy MD and OH info is scarce here and nothing on the internet as yet.

This info was obtained in the late 1940's by my ggrandmother and grandmother and Ohio relatives known to them from Bibles and family records. Hope this helps. Stay in touch.

Lon Lacey, Victoria, TX

Mary Catherine Toby, Ohio

Looking for the first wife of George William Miller, b 1835 in Richland Co., OH. I believe, they married about 1860 in Ohio. What I do know is, that his first wife died 29 apr 1861 after giving birth to first child Mary C.Miller (b. 17 apr 1861).The baby "disapeared", cause William enlisted in july 1861.
I found a marriage in ancestry.com between William Miller and Mary Catherine Toby in Richland Co., OH on 28 nov 1861 (maybe is 1860??) and thought I should check on this.

Does anybody knows something about Mary Catherine Toby or on Mary C. Miller ?

Thanks for helping! Angelika

I don't know of your Francis Weldon but, the middle name of ANDERSON really caught my eye. This was a common middle name with my WELDON family. My William R. Weldon was born 1824, this time close to your Francis. From census records, my Willam list MO or AR for his birth place. My William died 1905 in McCulloch Co, TX. Did any of your WELDON's go to Texas?

This is a very old exchange on Toby, but will respond. Nathaniel Wheeler Tobey was born 3 May 1810 in Woodbury, Litchfield, CT. He died 12 January 1892 in Burnet County, Texas. Nathaniel and second wife Winnie Adeline Dennis Edde Tobey are buried in the Tobey Cemetery, Burnet Co, TX. Alma Ruth West Tobey died 1 Sep 1857 and is buried in the Macks Creek Cemetery, Camden Co, MO. Nathaniel and Alma Ruth married 18 Dec 1831 in Jennings Co, IN. Nathaniel married Winnie between 1857 and 1859 probably in Camden or Hickory Co, MO. Can some one provide some more information on the Mountain Meadow Massacre?

Hi Lon:
I found some information about your Michael Tobey in the "History of Washington County, Maryland", by Thomas J. C. Williams, vol. 2, page 1186. The parents of your Magdaline Miller are John Miller (b. 11 February 1762 - d. 28 September 1837, buried in the Reformed Church Cemetery, Boonsboro, Washington Co.,Maryland) and Barbara Weaver (b. 11 May 1768 - d. 26 February 1847, buried in the Reformed Cemetery). The book also says (pg. 1185) that John was married in Baltimore.
The "Washington County, Maryland Marriages An Index: 1799-1860", compiled by Dale Walton Morrow & Deborah Jensen Morrow, page 109, has a marriage date for Michael Tobey & Mag. Miller as 22 December 1811.
This is all I could find about Michael Tobey.

Ed
