My grandfather's mother was Sarah (Sadie) Tofflemire and her father was James M. Tofflemire. Her father was from Canada I believe. She was born in Illinois and grew up in Iowa. I wonder if those Tofflemires are related?

My family are Tofflemires from Canada. I presume you are speaking of the Martin Tofflemires who were captured by the Indians & British? There is an enormous amount of information regarding this family available on line. It's nice to know I have many relatives I don't even know yet around. It is such a surprise.
My greatgreat grandfather James Tofflemire migrated to Illinois from Canada and then settled in Iowa.

My great-grandfather was Darias (Darius) Alvin Bruner, born in Canada about 1857. He married Sarah Jane Tofflemire, daughter of Samuel Findley Tofflemire and Salomi Celie Tripp. Sarah Jane was born 12 Dec 1850 in Illinois. Does anyone have any information about Darius? I can't seem to find out who his parents were. I know he moved to Illinois and then to Delhi, Minnesota. His children were my grandmother Stella Salome (m. Arthur Carbert), Samuel Floyd (m. Janet McTavish), Alvin Clark, Sarah Elizabeth (m. Jackson), and Hugh C.

I am trying to connect Julia Ann with my former husband's family. Does anyone have information on her children? She married Argulas (sp?) THOMAS in 1845 in IL after coming to the US from Canada in 1839 (?). Any leads kindly appreciated. Thank you,

I have not met Peggy.. just starting to research this branch of the tree.. I have Henry Tofflemire 1793 married to Catherine Quick... I believe you had another (Fox) married to Henry.. is it the same Henry? or a son or?? did he have 2 wives? I have a Jacob Tofflemier 1772 married to a Ruth Riley..can you clarify any of this?? I will start with Martin Tofflemire and Eve Munger, They were captured at Ruddles fort in Kentucky, by the British and Indians. The Indians marched them to Detroit.

Joseph Roderick, my father, and dad's brother's was Earl, Doug and sister Lorna all deceased. I live in British Columbia, I have the Tofflemire history book. It would be interesting to hear back from you. Dad's family was raised in Windsor, Ontario. We have lot's of cousins still living in Ontario.

Good to hear from you. Here's what I have. My ancestor was Adam Bruner m. to Mary Stewart. He was killed by Indians on the way from Pennsylvania to Essex County, Ontario. They had four children. She remarried (we believe a Tofflemire - looks pretty sure now). I also have a Judith Fox b.1777 married to a different Adam Bruner. (Judith had a brother, Jonas, who married Susannah Bruner, daughter of Adam Bruner and Mary Stewart.) Judith and Adam had five children. Could she have been married to a Tofflemire as well? I have a few other Tofflemires who married Bruners here and there. Let me know if this sounds right!

Hi Dawn,
Hope this finds you well. I was in my dentist the other day and he asked me if I was related to the inventor of the inventor of the Tofflemire Universal Matrix Band. I said I was somehow but I wasn't sure exactly how. He then asked me what your father's name was. I wasn't sure but I said I would find out as I had been in contact with his daughther Dawn and would ask her the next time I wrote her. He seemed pretty impressed. I'm going to look at the family tree to see how I'm related to you and your father.

I've heard about you the Tofflemire dental instrument since I was a little kid and it's really interesting to be in touch with the inventors father. Are there a lot of dentists in the Tofflemire family? I saw a picture of one (I don't remember his name) who was a dentist in the Navy.

My mom and dad are John and Ann Tofflemire of Post Falls, ID. My grandparents on my dad's side are Harris and Elizabeth Tofflemire who are from the Cincinnati are, I believe Norwood, OH. They are both deceased. Beyond that, I'm not really sure. Besides me, there are 8 other kids in my family and they are scattered from Los Angeles, Tucson, Spokane and Tokyo Japan. And of course me in Seattle. Where are you from Dawn?
In MyFamily.com, my father posted a picture of me and a gentleman I used to play football with, Steve Largent. I played from 1989-1995 for the Seattle Seahawks, that's how I ended up in Seattle. I was playing football and attending school at the University of Arizona in Tucson and was drafted by the Seahawks.

It's interesting that your father was a dentist. How was he related to the Tofflemire who invented the Tofflemire clamp that some dentist still use?
