Classification: Query
Surnames: Tolliver, Estep, Blankenship
Hi, all. I'm looking for information on my family history, and keep running into out of date messages and out of date contact information. I decided to post a note to see if anyone was out there to help.
Here's what I already know: My grandmother's name is Meda Estep, and her parents are Millard Fillmore Tolliver (b. 1878) and Artie "Dove" Estep (b. 1881). Meda was born in 1918, may be listed as the name "May" or "May/Meda". She has several siblings, but I have only met one, and that was Bessie, and she passed away in 1998.
Meda's siblings (Artie & Millard's children):
Mary Tolliver (b. 1902)
Charley Tolliver (b. 1904)
Lula Tolliver (b. 1906)
Bessie Tolliver (b.1909)
Rittie Tolliver (b. 1912)
Millard Tolliver (b. Mar 4 1914, d. Mar 4, 1914)
James Monroe Tolliver (b. Mar 4 1918)
Vada Tolliver (b. Oct 8 1920)
Macy Tolliver (b. Dec 6 1922, d. Dec 6 1922)
Tracey/Gracey Tolliver (b. Dec 6, 1922, d. Dec 6 1922)
Although some names on my printouts are missing the place of birth, most say Pike County, KY. So, I'm assuming they all are.
I have some quite disorganized information that was printed out a few years back, dating (rather poorly when it actually comes to dates) Millard Fillmore Tolliver's history back to Wade Hampton Tolliver, and for some reason a reference on a census taken in 1880 that states that a "W. H. Tolliver" (who I assume is Wade Hampton) "said father born in France, Mother in North Carolina".
What I'm looking for is others who are looking for information on the same family, so we can compare what we have, and hopefully help each other out.
Also, if anyone has any background on Artie "Dove" Estep (and possibly why she is often referred to as Artie "Dove" Blankenship), it would be appreciated. All I can find at this time is that she was born around 1881 and her father's name was William Estep, and at least at the time a census was taken during 1920, he was living with Artie and Millard. I do not know if she had any siblings, nor do I know her mother's name, or anything about her.
In addition - if someone could shed some light onto what supposedly went on around the time of Millard being either driven out, pulled out, or willingly leaving, Morehead, KY or any other area to Phelps, KY, it would be appreciated. My family has heard an extremely low-detailed account of this, and no one seems to know all the details. All we get is "it was something bad that happened", and nothing more.
Thanks.
