Tolliver, Glover, Lenox, in Athens County Ohio

Hattie Tolliver was born abt. 1887 in Ohio. Probably Athens, or Hocking County. She married Clarence A. Glover born abt 1880 in Athens Co. Ohio. They were married Sept 6 1903 in Athens Co. Ohio. They had a daughter Freda Glover who married Leonard Isaac Lenox who eventually settled in Colorado. Anyone have a clue who Hattie Tollivers people were. Family lore says they were somehow part of the Feuding Tollivers . Thanks. Diane

Charles Barnett TOLLIVER m. Emma H. ETTING 1877 Wabasha Co, MN

I would like to compare research on Charles Barnett TOLLIVER who married Emma H. ETTING at Reads Landing, Wabasha, Minnesota in 1877.

Said Tolliver appears in Dakota Territory / South Dakota censuses from 1920 to 1880. His Civil War pension application says he was born in 1847. He enlisted in 1861 at Columbus, Ohio. Charles Barnett Tolliver reported that he lived at Columbus, Franklin, Ohio from 1865 to 1870 and then in Kellogg, Wabasha, Minnesota from 1870 to 1877. He frequently interchanged his first and middle names. The pension file further refers to his guardian, grandfather.

His only brother, Paul Toliver, was born about 1843 in Columbus, Franklin, Ohio. They had at least one sister. I have one source which records their parents as Edward Toliver and Martha Soweres.

I need help locating this family in the 1860 and 1870 census. Numerous trials of the census index at Ancestry.com (both exact and ranked) have not produced a census that appears to be the correct family. I have also tried the book indexes.

LeRoy Atkins
Lmatkins@cox.net
Edmund Tolliver - slave of Colonel Taylor of SC

I am looking for descendants of Edmund Tolliver of South Carolina. He and his brothers, Moses, Ike, Levy, Frank, and sister, Amelia came from Mississippi to Columbia, SC after being purchased as slaves by Colonel Taylor. Edmund was "houseman" for Colonel Taylor, he married a Cherokee indian girl who went by the name of Caroline Blakely. Her indian name is not known. Caroline and Edmund had four children named Moses, Sherman, Channey, and Edmund. It is said Colonel Taylor admired Edmund and sold Edmund all of the land from the Southern Railroad's boundary at Owens Field to the Congaree River. The purchase was part of all of the land that is of Little Camden and Arthurtown. Edmund's brothers and families founded a church at Bush Harbor over 134 years ago. This church is now called Brown Chapel AME. Looking for information about Edmund's wife, Caroline. Would like to know her true indian name and indian family. Caroline Tolliver is my great, great, great grandmother.

POW/MIA, Korean War, TOLLIVER

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Hamilton County Ohio as his home of record. His remains were never recovered.

Soldier: ROBERT EUGENE TOLLIVER
Born: October 16, 1931, Black
Date of loss: Nov. 26, 1950, POW

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Tolliver family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Millard F. Tolliver -- Pike County, KY

I posted a message a few day ago and I somehow posted the wrong information.
The name and information that I'm searching for is on Millard F. Tolliver (my Great Grandfather),
he may have had a brother named (James Monrow Tolliver).
I seraching for information on Millard F. Tolliver, he lived in Pike County, Kentucky.
He Married ARTIE DOVE ESTEP in November, 1899. I found information on Millard F. Tolliver's
Will and Dealth certificate stateing that he was born in 1879 and died September, 1951.
I know all his childrens names and their dates of birth.
But the information I need is who where is parents, where was he born?
I have heard from our elder family memebers that Millard F. Tolliver (my great grandfather)
was maybe half Indian. Our family has ALWAYS kept the Tolliver side of the family hush hush,
no one talks about him or his parent. I also was told a story that Millard F. Tolliver changes his
name. His given name could have been Marion Taliaferro.
If anyone has any type of information that helps me, please contact me at kindermelissa@hotmail.com
Thank you

Tolliver Reunion Update

We were pleased with the attendance and excitement at the Tolliver Reunion in Morehead, KY in June. We had 191 Tolliver descendants register from 14 states and Mexico. There was entertainment by The Franz Family Fiddlers, Dreama Taylor, Misti Dawn Lamb, Miranda Robinson, Amber Brown, Aimee and Abby Robinson. Seven large science fair boards displayed pictures and family information for all to see. There was much sharing of notes and pictures. On my way back to my motel room after 11 p.m., I found Tom Tolliver from CA and Jerri Buxton from Missouri still sharing information concerning their common ancestor: Enoch B. Tolliver. On Saturday we met in large family groups to make sure that all cousins knew one another. Sabrina Kiser, Donald Tolliver, and Henry Tolliver shared memories about their ancestor, Melvin Tolliver. Bob Sloan talked about the play he has written concerning the Rowan County War or Tolliver-Martin Feud. Hopefully, it will be produced in the summer of 2006. Dr. J. D. Reeder gave further feud information as well as updates on the Tolliver family and the Tolliver Family DNA Project. Some descendants of Floyd Tolliver have been located and plan to attend next year.
Our next Reunion is set for June 23-24, 2006 at Morehead, KY. All Tolliver descendants are invited and welcome. For further information, contact me at ELT1000@aol.com or J. D. Reeder at jdreeder2003@yahoo.com.

Tolliver Reunion Follow-up

On June 25-27, 2004 over 182 persons from 18 different states attended the Tolliver Reunion in Morehead, KY. The oldest ws 88 and the youngest was 7-week-old Ethan Tolliver, great great great grandson of the legendary Craig Tolliver (1851-1887) of Rowan County War fame. Bill and Greta Tolliver from Yakima, WA travelled the farthest. Special recognition was given to local historians Fred Brown and Jack Ellis as well as Lorene Moxley Sturgill, Tolliver family genealogist. Eleanor Waters, Velma Parmerton, and John C. Taliaferro were not present, but their work was recognized. Friday evening included Dr. J. D. Reeder meeting with a group concerning the Rowan County War, Wayne Rogers discussing the Tolliver Y-DNA project, and entertainment by Roy Odell Speedy Tolliver, an 86 year old folk musician from Arlington, VA. Ron Dobler and Dennis Tolliver, Speedy's son, backed up the master-fiddler with other instruments. A video of Speedy Tolliver made by the Arlington, VA Public Library was also shown. Saturday provided more time to share information, hear about the "Five Brothers" from Dr. Reeder, listen to Speedy accompanied by Misti Lamb, a Tolliver cousin from Wilmington, OH, and get an update on the latest DNA results from Wayne Rogers. I believe 4 new persons will have their DNA checked. Attendees were from the lines of John and Tabitha Howell Tolliver, Jesse and Frankie Stamper Tolliver, William and Mary Hopper Tolliver, Jane Tolliver b. 1830, John and Elizabeth Dillon Tolliver, Wade Hampton and Malinda Tolliver, and possible but not proven descendants of Moses Tolliver.
The next reunion will be June 24, 25, 2005, at the Carl Perkins Community Center, in Morehead, KY. All are welcome.

Tolliver Chickamauga Cherokee

Recently I have uploaded my family tree on several sites. My husband's maternal Grandfather was Martin Lincoln Toliver.
On each posting the father of MLT is added by the site administrators. He is listed as Indian Chickamauga. I have no wife listed. Our oral history indicates MLT had a falling out with his father and left home. To ensure that he could not be found he dropped one "l" from Tolliver. All of this is a puzzle to me. I desperately need help on this.

Thank you for your time and interest. Laura

Based on census information of 1860, 1879 and 1880 these three men, all born in Indiana, are possibly brothers. I am trying to figure out who the names of their parents. Their father was born in North Carolina and mother in Ohio. Archibald was married by 1850 and so far I cannot find George W. (age 20) and Reuben (age 16) in the 1850 Indiana census. If their parents died prior to 1850, maybe they were living with relatives of their parents. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Seeking information on John Tolliver who purchased land patent in Tippecanoe County in 1825. Is this the same John Tolliver who appears in the 1830 Tippecanoe Twnshp, Warren County census? Is he the John Tolliver who married Violette Mickle in Montgomery in 1826? How is he related to other Tollivers in Indiana around that time?

Barney Tolliver

We have been able only to trace our family back to Barney Tolliver who lived in So. Indiana in the middle of the 19th Century. I believe that the family came from Kentucky or Tennessee. Many members of the family have dark skin and black hair. I am wondering if we have a connection to the Melungengeons of Eastern Tennessee and Kentuck. Has anyone been able to make a direct connection between the Tolliver family and the Melungeons?

Does anyone know of a "Capt." Tolliver of Virginia? His daughter Judith married William Seaton Jr. The story goes that Capt. Tolliver was a wealthy slave owner who did not believe in slavery. He made arrangements for all of his slaves to be freed when he died. Some of the slaves conspired to hasten matters and put a poison in his coffee. All but two younger children died of the poison. Don't know if the Capt died as well or not....Thanks

Samuel Tolliver born March 1892 in Boyd County, Kentucky

I am searching for any information I can get on my grandfather. This is what I have:
Samuel Tolliver born March 1892 in Boyd County, Kentucky. Died June 1956. He is buried at the Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg, Ohio. He married (1) Daisy Buckley, they had one son, my father George William Tolliver. Samuel and Daisy divorced and he married (2) Anna ? They had no children that I know of but is possible they did. I think his mother may have been Melvina Jackson ? and his father Andy Tolliver, but I have no dates for anyone. Samuel I think had a sister named Hattie Tolliver who possibly married a Mantle. Last known address found for Hattie was Ashland, Kentucky in 1959. Any info or help anyone can give to guide me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Looking for info on a Drury Tolliver

I am trying to reasearch my family history, but our family bible holds little information and most of my family is already dead. I can trace my father's side no farther
back than a Drury Tolliver who died in a coal mining accident. He was married to a Lillian, who's last name is still unknown. All I know is that these Tollivers were around the Virginia and Maryland area, I cannot however, trace them into anyother country and past Drury. If anyone has info or a suggestion, it would be much helpful.
Chelsea Tolliver
