Approximately in 1910-1920 my relatives: two aunts, the uncle and the grandmother of my grandmother have left in the USA Poland (now this territory belongs to Belarus). Their surname was Tomashevich. Probably, the name of one aunt was Zosja (Sofia). In America one aunt has married the farmer, another - for the businessman who was engaged in manufacture of cars.

The relatives who have left to America and remained in Poland often wrote each other, sent photos and supported. They were going to take away to themselves and my grandmother who later in Poland has married. But the grandmother was ill and could not float by the ship.

In 1937 the part of Poland where there lived a family of my grandmother, has been attached to Belarus. The severe communistic government there has come to power. Communists sent families which had relatives abroad, in prison or shot. To rescue the family from execution, my grandmother had to destroy all letters and the photos sent from America. The grandmother and the grandfather to anybody, even to the children, did not speak about relatives in America that about it have not learnt the power. Fortunately, nobody has reported on it on the authorities, and my family has not been destroyed.

Many years after that my family tried to find the address of relatives in America. But all attempts were unsuccessful. Only to us have informally informed that the American family also searched for us.

My grandmother has died in 1986, the grandfather has died in 1987.

The Maiden name of my grandmother was Rabchun (Rapchun...), a surname after a marriage - Zyk. The family lived in Oshmjansky area (Oshmjany reg.). Letters from America could be sent on the address having such places, as Vilno (now Vilnius), Oshmjany (Oshmyany, Ashmjany, Asmena, Ashmjana), Smorgon, Zhuprany, Shumilishki.

At the grandmother was four children, three have already died, there was only one her daughter - my aunt.
Four photos sent from America have remained. On one of them there is an inscription in the Polish language:" Karol Wieletzczyk, twoj brat. 18 lutego 1933". From these photos two - wedding.

If someone knows something about destiny of my relatives, please write on an e-mail adventurer@tut.by

Yours faithfully,
Vladimir Zyk
