My great grandfather, Paul Hoppe (Hapka) was born 1/1/1867, in Poznan, Poland, I believe. He immigrated by himself at the age of 17-19. I believe he came over on the ship
Sorrento from Hamburg landing in NY on 7/1/1886. His name on the register is Paul Hoppe a farmer from Prussia destination Wisconsin. He married Helen (Heleana) Tomcheski(Tomaszewski) 11/27/1896 in Little Falls, Minnesota. His father's name was John and his
mother was Josephine Brezka (Breza). I do not believe his parents came over. Paul& Heleana had 4 children: Gertrude, Frank (my grandfather), Michael, and Marian. I have the Morrison Countyounty census for 1900 and 1905 . The spelling of the last name was listed as Hapka.
When the spelling changed I do not know. I was told my great grandfather was a brewmaster and had his own saloon in the Little Falls area.
If anything looks familiar, please contact me.
