Eugene Patrick Tomczak, 69, of Erie
passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born October 14, 1939, in Erie son of the late Leo and Veronica (Wolfe) Tomczak. He served as a City of Erie police officer from November 21, 1965 until his retirement as a Sergeant on September 14, 1998. He was a proud graduate of Cathedral Prep and attended Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a lifetime member of St. Stanislaus Church. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police #7, Gannon Recreational Center, Downtown YMCA Handball Tournaments, Cathedral Prep Sports Hall of Fame an avid sports fan, golfer and runner. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Mia Angela Tomczak (2005), brother, Raymond Tomczak; nephew, Steve Tomczak, Stanley and Jean Markiewicz; Father and Mother-in-Law; and two sisters-in-law Frances and Rose Tomczak. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Elaine (Markiewicz) Tomczak; three daughters, Pamela Pohl (Christopher) of Pittsburgh, Pa., Shelia Woll (Robert) and Cheryl Majewski (Mark) both of Erie;
a son Eugene Tomczak II (Laura) of Holly Springs, N.C. Also survived by nine grandchildren, Julie and James Pohl of Pittsburgh, Pa., Bethany, Erika, Nickolas Woll of Erie, Mark and Rachel Majewski of Erie, Regan and Eugene Tomczak III of Holly Springs, N.C.; brother, Jerome Tomczak; sister, Joan Oldenski (John); brothers, Leonard Tomczak (Theresa), Daniel Tomczak (Gerry), Robert Tomczak (Joan), Patrick Tomczak all of Erie; sister, Louise Oblinski (Mitch) of Erie; sister-in-law, Clara Tomczak; brother-in-law, Stanely Markiewicz, Jr. both of Erie, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends may call at the Edward J. Garr Funeral Home, 459 East 12th Street, Erie, PA 16503, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Retired Erie Police Associate will meet at the Funeral Home on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10:00 at St. Stanislaus Church.
