I am so disappointed. I thought I had found a Donaldson family that is related to my Tomer family. Now I think it is not the right connection.

I have these pictures of the Donaldsons that I want to give to the family. Only I can't find the family.

I am Margaret Tomer Rummens, daughter of Lorenzo James Tomer, Jr.
His mom was Charlotte Morningstar and she had a sister named Sarah (Sadie) who married John Donaldson.

From there that family became ... Donaldson, Downey, Rieger, Danner.

Can anyone help?

http://tomer.tribalpages.com
Elizabeth Tomer

I am seeking information regarding Elizabeth Tomer (b. abt. 1798), wife of Martin Sitgreaves. (There is a descrepancy surrounding Martin's birth--he is thought either to have been born sometime before 1800 in Easton, PA, or about 1794 in Niagara Falls, NY). According to the genealogy "Pedigree of a Nitwit," by Marguerite Sitgreaves Aimi, Elizabeth was thought to be of German descent. They had one known child, Martin Hulsizer Sitgreaves (my great-great-great-great grandfather). I have been unable to locate her grave in either of the Sitgreaves family plots at cemeteries in Easton, PA and Corning, NY. Any and all information is greatly appreciated!

My name is Tim Tomer and I am just starting to scratch the surface of the Webster Tomer line. I am a decendant of Webster to Christopher to Andrew to Kenneth to Jim Tomer. From what I am gathering Christopheer moved the family from NY to Michigan and eventually Minnisota. My grandfather (Kenneth was born in Minnesota) Not to stray away from what you are asking but I am also stuck at Webster Tomer. From what I see his father was John Tomer and his mother was Martha Hand. Any information you can share about this I would be greatly appreciative.

Thank You

Tim Tomer

tomertim@yahoo.com

I am looking for any information that I can get on Webster Tomer of Pultney, Steuben County, NY. He was born in 1803 and died in 1882. He came from NJ. His wiives were Adelsa Drake Smith, and Sarah Hyatt. I am related to him by his daughter Emily Tomer and was wondering if there is any one out there researching the same people. I have information of the the family from Emily to present. It looks as if he may have been a farmer, then went in the logging business or something like that. Emily died in Michigan in 1857. In one of the census he has his grandchildren living with him or staying with him I believe it was the 1860 census. Was wondering if Levi and Webster Tomer were brothers??? Any one out there willing to share information or shed some light as to Who Webster Tomer was??? Thanks for reading.
Patti

Hi Barbara. Thanks for your speedy reply. I met a few years ago with Mary Kay near Delmont, PA. Perhaps she will remember me. I'm also in the John Rhinehart Tomer line, I believe. There is one missing link that hopefully someday I will clear up. Just today I heard about a Tomer gathering this weekend in or near the North Carolina shoreline. I will try to let you know where and when. I share my time between my businesses in Pittsburgh and Charlotte. Say hello to Mary Kay for me and I hope we can talk more soon. Regards, Herman Tomer. PS my office number is 800-230-7789 if you have some time to talk.

They lived near each other in Dickerson Twp, Lewis Co., MO in 1860.

John is a widow by this Census and has one son (age 3) and one daughter (age 1) who were born in MO. All of the other children were born in KY. Female, S.J. is 23; Female, b. KY; S.E. is 14, b.KY; Male, J. 10 years, b. KY; Male T.J. is 8, b. KY; male Geo. H. is 3, b. MO and female M.A. is 1, b. MO.

John Tomer is a listed as a Tenant, with money/property worth $250. His son-in-law Joseph Lewis, is also a tenant and has money/property worth $600.

From the Census information, this John was born about 1816 in PA - he is 44 years old.

Joseph Marion LEWIS was employed by Overland as a "mule skinner" in MO and took three trips across from MO to CA delivering cargo on land schooners wagon trains to the Northern California area. At the end of the third trip, he and his family settled in CA.

His daughter Margaret Anne TOMER LEWIS, her husband, her sister Sarah TOMER (married REED in CA) and some of Joseph LEWIS' younger siblings traveled to Marysville, CA to settle and finally settled in Santa Maria, Santa Barbara County, CA. The LEWIS' patented land in Santa Barbara Co., CA, in 1875 and in Monterey County, CA in 1893.

Margaret Anne TOMER LEWIS died in 1915 and is buried in Santa Maria, CA. She was mother to 4 sons and 2 daughters.

I would like information on the wife of John TOMER and more information on his birth and early years.

Hi Karen:

I can't believe you found this old note! My husband's family is from Steuben County -- Hammondsport, to be exact. My Mother's family is also from there -- they found the Taylor Wine Company, Great Western, Pleasant Valley Wine Company, and then Bully Hill Winery. My husband has virtually no history on his family, so I am trying to locate what I can. As far as we know, Clifford Tomer came to Hammondsport from California, he was my husband's Grandfather. He helped my grandfather, Greyton Taylor, start the Keuka Yacht Club in the early 1900's. Before that time, we cannot seem to find anything on that branch of the family. Please feel free to email me at home at the aboce address, and maybe we can share what we have and possibly find out something new!

Thanks so much for your response!

Muriel

Does this tie in with your Tomer's? You can e-mail me a craygster@hotmail.com
Eileen

Hi Karen,
Our Tomer line seems to have originated in MD (in the mid-1700's) and moved west to Pittsburgh PA (about 1805). I do not recall having come across your family names in our line. We have had other inquiries from a NY line, but they do not seem to tie in with ours. I will pass your inquiry along to other researchers in my Tomer line, and see if they have leads to any other researchers in the NY line.
Barbara

I'm anxious to hear back from you, Herman ~
thanks for responding! How far back in the
Tomer line do you go? I descend from Hannah
Tomer, daughter of John Rhinehart Tomer (born
about 1760?) and his wife, Mary (Neet?) I am
getting together this next week with a cousin,
MaryKay Belford, who descends from Hannah's
older brother, Jacob ~ we are heading up to
MD for some research! Hopefully we will find
some information on John Rhinehart's father,
Ludwig! Looking forward to hearing from you
in the near future!

I found
some Tomers in Guys Mills, PA as a result of the
article on a Tomer reunion that she attended
over 10 yrs ago hosted by Faye Ward. My folks
have lived in Guys Mills since 1971, and we
never knew there was a connection to the Tomer
name until about 5 years ago, and then did not
know that there were Tomers in Guys Mills until
I met MaryKay! What a small world! The NC
link will be a interesting one to follow up on!
I'll try to call if I get a chance tomorrow!
But if I don't reach you, stay in touch! This
could generate a much needed boost ~ we have
been at the proverbial brick wall too long!
Til later!
Barbara

Eileen, I do not have a Marietta J Tomer in any of my notes. However it is curious that your Tomers are in Lancaster PA. Most of mine are in MD, at first around Westminster, and then between Frederick and Hagerstown. Do you know when your Tomers were in the Lancaster area, and if that was their point of entry into the country? My Tomer connection begins with Ludwig Tomer, and his son John Rhinehart Tomer.

Hi Muriel, just came upon this old note. My family line is also from New York; as far as I can tell they were in the Pulteney, Steuben County area from approx 1760 on. Are you looking for any TOMER family members from there? The only Hammondsport Tomer I can find is Lida in 1880 US Census (b.1851 in New York) w/her 4 children ages 1-9: Carlton, Floyd, Mary, and William. Cannot see I have any relation to them as of yet. Looking for her husband in war records. Hope this helps - Karen

Wife listed as "Pohoda" in 1870 at 21 years and "R.R." in 1880 census at 31, daughter Jennie 4 years old in 1880. Believe he died in 1914? Carla Tomer Perry and Jean Kay Morse helped point me in the right direction. (Big thank you!) Have a cemetery entry and looking for any available snippets... Thanks, Karen
