My Tomlinson's were from Ross County Jacob moved to Madison County where he had uncles, he married Emma Woods I believe her name was not sure without looking in Madison County. When Emma died he moved to Columbus. Not sure about your Tomlinson. I'll see if I find your guy in my research.

I have Tomlinsons in those areas in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Are they in any way related to Thomas Tomlinson b. 1828, who married Cathrine Blizzard?

I just posted a query re Mordecai & Mercy Jane Comly - and then found your message from 2003. Recognized the names Buzby and Feasterville in this area too. I don't know much about this branch of the Tomlinsons who married my aunt, but am very interested. Thank you, Bill Tomlinson

Does anyone recognize Mordecai & Mercy Tomlinson who farmed in the Bustleton, Somerton, Philadelphia Ward 23 & ward 35 area?
Mordecai was b.27Feb 1832 in Pennsylvania. He married 3Dec1857, Mercy Jane Comly b1834 in PA.
Their children Ella Tomlinson b.1858; George R. b.1860 PA, d. 1931; J. Wesley or James Wesley b. 1864 PA; Martha Ann Tomlinson b. 1871 (married Vansant); & Frederick Tomlinson b. 1875 PA.
Ella Tomlinson married William Hodgson Ridge b. 1854 in Trevose, PA (very near Bustleton).
I have found the 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910 census for Mordecai & Mercy. The Census note that both his parents were born in Pennsylvania-about 1830 est. I think his mother's name was Agnes.
Does this information correlate with anyone's tree or information. Thank You, Bill Tomlinson

Hello! I actually have quite a bit of information on Elizabeth Tomlinson. Here is a link to my genealogy blog:

http://trueandhonorable.blogspot.com/

You can check that out for starters. There is some information regarding Elizabeth on there. I also have census reports, her death certificate (that was actually signed by your grandfather), and other documents that you might like to see. Feel free to e-mail me at rickandsabri@cox.net and I would be happy to share what I have with you.

Take care,
Sabrina in VA

Samuel Tomlinson son of John born abt 1790 Allegany, MD

Please I would like to hear from anyone of the line, I have new information that needs some brainstorming. What happen to Samuel Tomlinson after he was pardoned from prison in 1841 and what happen to Polly/ Mary (or maybe she went by Margaret) his wife while he was in prison and even before he went to prison. My email is mjrothman@comcast.net.

Here is the Tomlinson story as I know it;

My g. g. g. grandfather, SAMUEL TOMLINSON born abt. 1790 in Cumberland, Md. is the son of John, Sr. and Hannah Tomlinson (nee Devore, possibly) His father John Tomlinson, Sr. died in 1833 and his mother Hannah died shortly after. His parents John Tomlinson, Sr. and Hannah Tomlinson lived in CUMBERLAND, ALLEGANY CO., MD. I received an email that writes Samuel’s marriage record says he was of GREEN POINT, ALLEGANY CO., MD.

SAMUEL TOMLINSON married POLLY MATTHEWS July 5, 1811 in Allegany Co., Md. Polly was the daughter of CHIDLEY MATTHEWS and MARGARET PARKS.

SAMUEL TOMLINSON and POLLY MATTHEWS had five children that I know of:
1.	Joseph born 1814 moved to Richland Co., Ohio married Mary Thompson in 1837
2.	Minerva born 1816 married in Somerset Co. PA to James HARDY in 1833, moved to IA
3.	Margaret born 1818 married in Bedford Co. PA to James DEVORE in 1835, moved to IN
4.	George born 1821 moved to Richand Co. OH married Mary GREEN in 1847
5.	Samuel born 1823 moved to Richand Co. OH married Sarah KEMMEL in 1854

08 Jan 1832 Samuel sold 300 acres of land called "NOTHING LEFT" in Allegany County Maryland to John M BUCHANNAN for $3,000. Nothing Left was conveyed to Samuel Tomlinson by his father John Tomlinson 14 Of Sept 1816 Witness John H BAYARD and Henry KORN

SAMUEL TOMLINSON’S father died in 1833. His will was contested and the case is recorded in the chancery court system in Allegany Co., MD and makes some very interesting reading. John did not approve of his sons Jacob and Samuel and wanted to leave Samuel out of his will and did not want Samuel to get any of his land.

Samuel is next in the Pheonix Civilian Maryland newspaper, 08/04/1835 on page 3, wanted as a horse theft by his uncle Benjamin TOMLINSON.

Stop the Horse THIEF!!
$50 REWARD
WERE stolen from the farm of the subscriber, five miles above Cumberland, Allegany county, Md. On Sunday, August 2, 1835
TWO HORSES,
One a Dark Roan, black mane and tail, about 5 years old, between 14 & 15 hands high, well formed, shod before. The other a Bay Horse, between 16 and 17 hands high, slab sided, badly formed, string-halted in one of his hind legs, hind feet white, blazed face, bare footed, and between 6 and 7 years old. Both horses are in good order

The above horses, it is supposed, have been stolen by a certain Samuel Tomlinson, who has lately been reprieved and returned from the penitentiary, where he had been sent for horsestealing, since which time he has been depredating upon society by horse stealing, &c. having with a few days past stolen a fine horse from this neighborhood, and deposed of him, and returned & repeated his exploits. It is believed that he is accompanied by and Irishman, who come on with him and informed against him, & received the reward for the horse stolen and no doubt divided it with the culprit Sam. Tomlinson. Said Tomlinson has a very red face; roman nose with a scar on it; red hair inter-mixed with gray, about 5 ft. 9 or 10 inches high, slender & straight built, & is about 40 years of age. His common dress is blue clothes, but it is believed he took with him a new snuff coloured coat & dark checkered pantaloons. He is very fond of whisky.

Thirty dollars will be given for the apprehension and delivery of said Tomlinson, and $10 for each of the above described horses, or such information as may lead to their recovery.

There are two other rewards of 30 and $50 offered for the apprehension of the above thief.

Benj. Tomlinson
August 3

08/11/1835 page 2 of the Pheonix Civilian Maryland newspaper
Samuel Tomlinson, Charged with stealing the horses of Benjamin Tomlinson, Esq. was yesterday brought to town, and committed to Allegany county jail, to take his trial at out next October Court. He was taken, with the horses, at or near Winchester, Va.

10/27/1835 page 2 Pheonix Civilian Maryland newspaper
The fall term of Allegany county Court, closed on Friday evening last. During the sitting Samuel Tomlinson was tried and convicted of horse-stealing, and sentenced to the penitentiary for 14 years; ….

MARYLAND PENITENTIARY (Prisoner Record) SE65, 1811-1869 [Electronic]
http://guide.mdarchives.state.md.us/series.cfm?action=viewSe...

Prisoner #: 2853, Name: Samuel Tomlinson, Place of Nativity: Allegany County, Age: 45 years, Complexion: Fair, Hair: Sandy , Stature: 5’10 1/2”, Eyes: blue, Usual place of Residence: Cumberland, Occupation: Farmer, Marks: none, County where Convicted: Allegany, Crime: Felony, Date of Sentence: 30 Oct 1835, Duration of Servitude: 7+7 years, Expiration of Servitude: 30 Oct 1849
MSA SE65-3 page 17

Prisoner #: 2853, Name: Samuel Tomlinson, Place of Nativity: Allegany County, Age: 45 years, Complexion: Fair, Hair: fair , Stature: 5’10 1/2”, Eyes: blue, (page torn) County where Convicted: Allegany, Crime: Felony, Date of Sentence: 30 Oct 1835, Duration of Servitude: 7+7 years, Expiration of Servitude: 30 Oct 1849 Occupation in Prison: weaving, When Discharged; 6 Mar 1841, How Discharged: Pardon
MSA SE65-4 page 2

MD Archives, MSA SCM 3162 pg 133 Executive Letter Books, Governor William Grason pardons Samuel TOMLINSON 6 Mar 1841

If you can send me an actual email address I can email Humpfrey's gravestone photo to you ( I will look and see which other Tomlinsons are buried there--any other family name you are looking for in the area? Because after my first visit there I went home to discover new names in our family, which were also buried there...Somewhere in the Stroud family I have seen Tomlinsons==not sure which line they were in. Humphrey is buried in the Society Baptist Church Cemetery in Iredell County. The cemetery is very near the Davie County Line.
My email address is: shopendlesssummer@yahoo.com

Willam Tomlinson 1853 of Fairburn

Hello,
I am no relation of this family. my reason for looking into this tree is bacause while helping out as a volunteer to try to tidy an overun and overgrown local graveyard, my husband came accross a stone for William's son William Henry. It was just very touching that he discovered it, tangled over with hawthorns, on the 27th August. Which was not only the date Young Willam Henry Drowned down the mine, but also his 19th birthday.
We will be returning to the grave to rescue it from the thorns and clean up the area in the next few days.
Any interested family members are very welcome to contact me about this, or if they have any further information on Willam Henry. Thank you.

Andrew Houston Tomlinson

I have seen a few older posts concerning an Andrew Houston Tomlinson, son of John Tomlinson, who married a Bunger and lived in Elkhart and Noble County, Indiana and King City, Missouri.

I have some his first marriage to Julia Ann Danner 8 Jan 1835 in Elkhart County, Indiana and have researched Julia Ann's Ancestry.
They had at least two children before separation and his remarriage. The cause of the separation seems to be because Julia Ann became insane, and eventually, blind.

Please contact me if you have information regarding their children at jsmith03 at gmail dot com.

Sarah Clingman was married to John Michael Clingman who was in the Revolutionary War and is my ancestor. We have just recently found out about Sarah through JMC's will. Sounds like there may have been some issues with at least one of JMC's children when their father died.
Sarah's first husband was James Tomlinson. Her maiden name was Yarnel (Yarnell).
Hope to hear from you.

Hi,

Dont know if you've made any progress with this, but I noticed a birth registration Jun 1852, Kendal, ref 10b518.

The certificate should give you mothers maiden name.

Re: RICHARD TOMLINSON SEDGLEY ENGLAND/PITTSBURGH PA

Hi, Nancy. I think we were in touch years ago. I have a Joseph Tomlinson who was born somewhere in England in 1830 and who died in Kansas in 1910. One of his sons was William Richard Tomlinson who was born in Kentucky in 1860 but who died in Pittsburgh in 1928. I know that Richard Tomlinson from Sedgley had a brother, Joseph, who was born in Sedgley in 1830. I'm still trying to discover whether my great-great grandfather, Joseph, was that brother. So far the connection has eluded me. Have you ever found out more about Richard's brother, Joseph?
Stella
stellagieseler@hotmail.com
