I'm researching several EVANS families all listed as Free People of Color or Mulatto in North Carolina, mostly from the Warren & Halifax County areas. One of them was the family of Matthew Evans, who died in Warren Co. in 1844. His Estate papers listed 8 people, probably his children- Crecy, Fanney, Celia, Moses, Nancy, Patience, Isaac, and Henry, all born between about 1782 - 1806 - most of whom I have done extensive research on. I have never been able to ascertain who was Matthew's wife, does anyone have anything? Also, two of his daughters were married to TONEYs - Fanney, probably to Kinchen Toney, Celia to Matthew Toney. I have found only one child for Fanney & Kinchen - Hilliard Toney; but have been unable to identify any of Celia & Matthews children. Matthew Toney moved to Tennessee, at least by 1849, where he was married to a Catherine_____. Does anyone have anything on these families? I am also trying to locate Matthew's son, Henry Evans, born about 1806, wh!
o last showed in the 1830 Halifax County census.
I'd appreciate any info that anyone might have to identify the missing people in this family. To see more detailed info on these families, or any of the other Evans I am researching , you can view my Family tree at:
