Dear Kaity

It's a long shot, but Henry/Harry Tongue and Annie Mason had a daughter Alice May Tongue, born abt 1887 in Sutton Coldfield. She lived with her family at 41 Albion Road, Yardley in 1891 and 1901.

I'm about to fork out some money on the 1911 Census. If anything new emerges I'll post a followup.

I'm sorry not to have replied earlier. I missed your post (and another) and have only revisited this when another one came in 7 years on! (Have I really been working on the family tree for so long?)

The nearest connection I can make to your GGrandfather is Arthur Tongue, born Greet abt 1899 (son of Henry/Harry & Annie Mason. He was living with parents and siblings at 41 Albion Road, Yardley in 1901.

I'll fork out for a view of the 1911 census in a minute. If that reveals anything new I'll post a followup.

My g-grandmother is an Alice Tongue, b. about 1889. Eventually was married to Robert Cookson in England, where their first child, Sydney, was born, before the family moved to Canada, then the USA. Might she be the daughter of your Henry Tongue? I haven't been able to find any information about Alice so far.

I am looking for any information on Ann TONGUE who maried William WIMANT (Inspector of Police and later Publican ) on 26 Dec 1835 at St Marys, Nottingham.

Ann Tongue was born in either 1812 (Notts Bapt CD) or 1815 (family records) and may have been the daughter of John TONGUE and Sarah. If she was born in 1812 she could have been baptised on 26 Jan 1812 at Nottingham St Marys.

I scanned and transcribed the following Tongue marriages from the Boyd's Marriage Index. I'm currently researching Derbyshire and Worcestershire Croxall's, Tongues, and Scattergood's. I am on a research frenzy, researching every microfilm I can get my hands on from the SLC FHL. Isn't life fun when your kids are grown??!!

My grandfather is Arthur Samuel Croxall, dob 7 Dec 1904 in Chorlton, Lancashire, England, and his parents are William Croxall and Mary Emma (Tongue) Croxall. I would love to be in contact with any of my "cousins" out there.

Unfortunately, the only info I have on Thomas Tongue is from the United States. I believe I may have found rachel Pollett's family in England when she was young. But I still do not have verification. The refernce is from an 1841 English census and lists address on Mount St in "Ashton in Lyne". She was 13 at the time. Her father is listed as a dresser and the children are all listed as weavers. When "my" Rachel Pollett came to this country, she worked in the textile mills so it seems to fit. I do not know if she married Thomas Tongue and then they moved to the United States, or if they married when they were both here. Thomas Tongue seems to be a fairly generic name in England at that time. Since I have no names for father, mother or siblings, it is hard to verify which Thomas Tongue. If you have any information at all how he is related to you I would appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks

I have yet to find documention of where the wedding took place and Elizabeths birthdate,place and parents names.?.
Do you have an ELIZABETH TONGUE amongst the Tongue Family you have been researching?

My Aunt who is now deceased put forward information about these two being married but did not say, what her source was. How I wish she had left some of her Genalogy to another in the family.

I would appreciate any information you could give me about the Tongue Family Origins and Elizabeths parents,sibblings etc..

I have been in touch with Roy Gardner who told me about your message on the Tongue board. John Bentley/Mary Ann Tongue were my grandparents on my fathers side. My father had 2 brothers and 1 sister,
she was Mary Emma after her mother and grandmother. Sadly they have all passed away now , so there is no-one to ask for any information.

My great great grandmother was Regina Tongue who was know to be of Indian decent. She lived on the island of Trinidad and maried into the wilson family.

Thomas was a lawyer and congressman in Oregon USA born in Lincolnshire to Anthony and Rebeca Tongue emigrated in 1859 to Oregon. Thomas was also a farmer at BURTON Farm which was his family home on the 1880 census he has wife Emily and 5 children. He employed relatives from Scredington Lincolnshire and a Wm Thompson was there in 1893. Any more info welcome.

She used her second name Florence, on her marriage certificate. but we can see the family on the 1901 census as her father is shown as Charles John on the marriage certificate. That's when we realised that her first name was actually Maria. We can also tell from her 1906 marriage certificate that Charles John was a commercial traveller which matches his occupation on the 1901 census in Clerkenwell.

Hi, The Florence I have on the tree was born 1877 and her parents were Edward and Emily. He was a watchmaker. Edward at the top of the tree starte din Coventry and then moved to Islington and Hoxton. The various addresses I have are 21 Sekford Street, 9 White Lion Stree, 223 St Johns Road, 7 Startford Place, 23 Queen Street, Tottenham Square, Topham Road.

Not sure there's a match at the moment, but I'll bear you in mind if I come across anything else.

Thomas Tongue m. Rachel Pollett

I am looking for info on Thomas Tongue born in England. Went to US in 1848. Married Rachel Pollett also from England. Have most of their descendants but cant seem to make the connection accross the pond. Anyone from England recognize these names? Thomas was born around 1818 and Rachel was born around 1822. Rachel's parents are listed as George and Rachel Pollett on her death certificate.

I do have a Samuel Tongue and Mary (nee Evans) having children around that time. They married in 1813, and I know of 5 children of the marriage, none of which is a William. However, there is an intriguing gap between the first known child in 1813 and the next in 1818 where no children are baptised to this couple at their usual church. Wouldn't be surprised if your William turns out to be theirs and was either baptised elsewhere, or not at all. William is a very common name in this extended family so it is unusual that this particular household didn't seem to have one! Additionally two of your William's children's names were the same as two of the children in this family. Do you know whereabouts in Birmingham Samuel worked? This one was in Staniforth St in 1830 and Hanley St in 1834, and ided in 1839.

I have a Samuel Tongue, a jeweller of Birmingham who married a Mary, among my ancestors. His son William, born 1816, and wife Eliza Harvey and children, Sarah Jane, Walter and George, migrated to Australia in the mid 1800's. Any connection?

George Tongue is my GG grandfather. I don't have a lot of information on him. He died 25 Nov 1896 and was buried at Stockton Cemetery. I have 8 possible children for him (unsure about 1 or 2). I have not yet obtained a copy of his death certificate.

My GGrandfather Arthur Edwin left Birmingham for New Zealand via Australia around 1905. He was a jeweller and his ancestors were all from the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham. I am still searching for information about his brother Horace Clifford born 1882. Do you know your great grandfather or even gg grandfathers names - this would make any links easier to find.

Looking for info on my Great Grandfather, Starr Wildman. His wife was Augusta Bedat Wildman, their children were/are
Florence M. Coddington (b. 04/26/1913, Newtown CT, SS#: 049-14-2114), Donald Wildman, Frances Wildman, Ida Peterson, and Jean Barna, all of CT.

Florence has a son named Clinton Coddington of Waterbury, CT.

Edward L. Wildman Sr. (b. 02/02/1919 Bridgeport, CT, Ss#: 042-18-1312) married Frances (Oberstadt) Wildman, their children are: Edward L. Wildman Jr., of Southbury, William R. Wildman Sr., of Waterbury; and Marjorie Wildman Mitchell of Southbury, CT. Edward Sr. was a former member of the Danbury Elks.

I believe my grandfather, Donald Wildman, is living in FL. He married Mary Prendergast of Springfield, MA. They later divorced and he remarried.

I have been told Starr Wildman is of American Indian ancestry. I'm not sure what tribe. Another family name mentioned is Tongue.

William Tongue of Birmingham, ENGLAND

Looking for relatives of William Tongue, a gun lock maker of Birmingham, England, who first appeared in directories of the area in 1767. I believe he originated around Stoke Priors in Worcestershire. Wife Mary. Children include Samuel who married Mary chambers. family gradually moved from guns to jewellery making over the years, with most descendants over the next century or so remaining in this type of work in the Birmingham area.

I'm just working backwards on my husband's history. His Great Grandmother was (Maria) Florence Tongue, daughter of Charles and Mary Ann. It looks like Charles was still alive in 1906 on her wedding as he is not shown as deceased on the certificate. I'm afraid I don't really have much other info as to parents etc. as yet as I have only just ventured into this particular avenue of investigation although it looks like they were all from Clerkenwell & Islington

Can anyone help in my search for Charles TONGUE a labourer/coalminer/contractor born about 1839 supposedly in Birmingham but perhaps Dudley Port, Staffs. His father is noted on Charles' marriage certificate as also being named Charles Tongue and was also a Labourer. Charles married Emma UPTON in Stonnall, Staffordshire on March 3 1862 and lived on the Chester Road in Brownhills from that time until his death on Jan 17th 1914. He apparently had 2 sisters who attended his funeral - a Mrs. WYLES of Birmingham and a Mrs. MATTHEWS and family of Sheffield.

Over the years I have obtained 3 birth certificates for 3 different Charles Tongues but none is the correct Charles.
I have been unable to find any mention of a Charles Tongue in any of the Censuses prior to his marriage until I searched for him in the 1841 census when it recently came online on Ancestry.co.uk.

There I found a Charles Tongue aged 2 years born in the county living on Hill Street in Green's Village, Birmingham with an Elizabeth Tongue aged 21 years and not born in the county.

I think it's possible that this Elizabeth was born in March of 1817 in Chaddesley Corbett to Charles Tongue a Labourer and his wife Sarah Rider. They were married December 26 1815 in Kidderminster and Elizabeth was their oldest child.

I have been unable to find a marriage certificate or a death certificate for Elizabeth post 1841 or a birth certificate for Charles as an illegitimate child of Elizabeth. I wonder whether the Charles Tongue, labourer that my Charles Tongue names on his marriage certificate was actually his grandfather - Elizabeth's father - rather than his father?

If anyone can throw any light on this - my biggest brick wall - I've been searching now for 30 years for Charles - I would be forever grateful!

Hope that someone may be able to help me out.

According to 1901 Canadian Census:
Son, William KIRTON born Nov 5 ,1823 Hampshire,England. However on death Certificate, it shows William was born Nov 5 1825. Died Dec13,1910. States parent names were Elizabeth and William Kirton

Son William immigrated to MT.Albert ,Floss Township, Ontario Canada and married Frances "Elizabeth" Fenwick April 6 1846.

Elizabeth and William may also have had other children:

2) Richard KIRTON born 1822,Devonshire England as stated in 1901 Census taken in NewMarket,Ontario.

However on death certificate it states Richard KIRTON was born Feb 7, 1823. Died Mar 13,1911. Newmarket,Ontario.
Death certificate states Parents Elizabeth and William.

3)Job born 1821 Northamptonshire Died 27 Sept, 1895 @ Kings Township,Ontario,

4) James.Kirton b.November 5, 1830@ Northumberland, England.
source: Census Canada 1901. Died January 7 1904 @ Newmarket,Ontario .
On the death Certificate it said parents name was Elizabeth and William kirton and brother to Richard Kirton.

I have been researching now for 6 years and cannot find confirmation of Birthdates nor Emigration dates of any of the records here in Ontario, Canada. I would think there is a relationship to all 4 men, as they lived so close together.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Seeking information about a possible marriage between Catherine Holmes & John Tongue in Dec 1809 in Eccleshall Staffordshire UK (according to IGI). Is this the John Tongue of Dilhorne Staff b. 1788, son of John Tongue & Ann Moss? And if so, can anyone help with who Catherine Holmes is & where she is from? I have Thomas Tongue, who had a son called Charles John Tongue b. 1856, dies pre 1920. In 1881 Charles was living in 9 Skinner Street Islington Ec1 London. He married Mary Ann Axtell in 1875 and they had children

I have a Thomas Tongue in my tree, b. 1843 and was a son of John Tongue who also had a son called James who married an Elizabeth from Hoxton Middlesex and most of their children were born there or in Islington. My family stem from a second family that James had.

Hope this may be of use to you and would like to know more about your Tongue's.

Hi trying to trace my family they came from glamorgan,my grandfather was Ronald Tongue and he was born in Merthyr Tydfil in july 1916,i know he had 2 brothers Frederick and Edgar,and his parents were Sydney and Isabella( Pugh )Tongue.But apart from the fact they came to live in Brecon i don't know anything about them ,so if anyone can help it would be great.
